  1. The Safeway deal never got off the ground and I do not believe ever generated any revenue accordingly. I guess there’s a shot that the employee guinea pigging generated something, not nothing worth a fresh infusion at the 9/10 year mark of a couple hundred million.
Walgreens committed $140 million, of which $40 million was an “innovation fee” that was basically an investment. I think the other $100 million had a mutual business purpose associated to the rollout.
For Safeway, the CEO basically fell in love with her and committed hundreds of millions of dollars to a posh redesign of their in-store health centers with a Theranos cobrand. Then Theranos never rolled out with them. Whoops.
One thing I haven’t seen mentioned that made me laugh was the Rupert Murdoch stuff in the book. The fucking guy comes across as both a complete boss and a duped old man. As a duped old man, he put in something like $125million late, basically because Holmes successfully wooed him. This is one of the more legendarily savvy businessmen of our time.  Then, she attempts to use the investment as a means to convincing him to shut down the WSJ oncoming story before it broke. He politely declined and let it play out. Then, rather than become embroiled in the legal wrangling once the fraud was evident, he had Theranos buy back his shares for $1. $1 total. And then he took the write-off of the losses against various other gains.
I was surprised that she was able to dupe these old guys who were all still very lucid. They’d all been around power and powerful women for decades. They’d all been with hotter women and they’d all certainly been around brighter women with better resumes. To boot, some of them had a background in international spycraft. Yet somehow, this lady pulled it over on some really, really famous and powerful dudes. That continues to fascinate me.
That's what I don't get. I'm 52 and have pretty low standards, and I don't find her attractive. At all. These guys were mesmerised by this blonde Amazonian creature.

  2. That their extensive Nat Geo collection is worthless?
As in, no, 1/2 books don't want them. Neither do libraries. Neither do schools.

You'd like to prove that wouldn't you. Get your name in the National Geographic.

  3. I think it's time to let go of that rope, buddy.
Glad to know Trump is just a buffoon and a con-artist and not actually in Russia's pocket.  If the Dems are smart they'll sweep this under the rug as quick as they can and pivot to real issues.  But from all the Aggy talk I've already seen, I'm guessing that's not going to be the case.
And folks really should read that article by Taibbi.  Dude just ruthlessly lays out how fucked this whole thing was from the jump.  If you think Fox News and the national AM radio hacks like Limbaugh and Levin are the only propagandists living in this country, you're sadly mistaken.  The leftists who think they're so much better/smarter than their conservative counterparts got taken for a ride by their media overlords.

Also, glad to know that even though he never should have had any in the first place, Hugo's credibility is now somewhere far, far south of zero.  Thousands upon thousands of posts screaming about how the commander-in-chief is a Russian agent.  For this?  Nothing?  Nada?  Just Trump being who we always knew he was: a self-obsessed narcissist.  If Hugo had any shame he'd banish himself.  Instead, he's still here desperately trying to walk it back and spin it as best he can.  Sorry Alex, but the jig is up.  The alien-human hybrids and psychic vampires aren't real.
Trump is a fucking buffoon, but what a waste of money, time, and resources.

And time for the 4 usual suspects that have 80 percent of the almost 20,000 posts on this thread. Is this what you want to be doing when Jesus comes back?
  4. Weird.  I just sent my SAT score to UT and got a letter back saying "you're in."  I also applied to Plan II and Honors Engineering, and for some small merit-based 'ships, which were all more like a private school and a bit of a hassle.  I can't imagine that Austin College, Trinity, and SMU were any easier to apply to.
But I was one of the last years where you could get in on test score alone.  But, as I recall (and I may be confusing LSAT here), didn't CTS do a distillation of your high school transcript also that you could send along with your SAT score?

That's how I got in in 85. My SAT wasn't that stellar either as I only took it once and a class rank around 11%.
