  1. From a pure survival/calorie/economic point of view, it's a valid point.
For a healthy and balanced diet it's nuts.
But the argument is still valid.
The Great Depression/Dust Bowl is still in the living memory of my grandparent's generation. The fact that their great-grandchildren will hopefully never have to deal with that scale of food scarcity is amazing and in large part due to the US/Global economy.

My dad's first name was doctor and still licked his plate into his 50s having grown up on a poor South Texas cotton farm during the Depression.
  2. I get it if its strictly sustainance (more specally calories) per dollar, but that is a terrible way to evaluate cost and "nutrition." But if someone is trying to sustain themselves on fucking mcdoubles, I'm certain that whatever money can be saved eis far outweighed by the cost of clogged fucking arteries, hypertension due to sodium sensitivity, and the diabeetus for those who have it. As was mentioned, rice and beans are cheaper and more "nutritious" by just about any  legitimate standard.

That's because Dubner and Freakonomics are fucking stupid. He's the click bait of economists.
  3. I do not miss corporate pharmacy one bit. I got hired out of school for $130k and usually that fact alone causes people to not show you any sympathy but being a pharmacist is one of the most emotionally draining jobs I've ever worked. You don't get lunch breaks, you don't get bathroom breaks, you're assigned 10-14 hour shifts at a time, corporate measures you at every possible avenue (they grade you on how fast you answer the phone, how fast you answer the doctors line, how long you take to finish a call on the doctors line, how fast you verify prescriptions, how many patients fill out satisfaction surveys, how they grade you, etc), you're understaffed so the expectation is for you to fill 600 prescriptions with 1 technician, and you have to deal with members of the general public who really don't want to be at the pharmacy but they have to because they're either sick or treating a chronic condition. Our benefits are pretty bad too. No sick days and 3 days of flexible PTO. We get 2 weeks of vacation but it has to be used a week at a time from sunday to saturday and scheduled a year in advance. Wanna go see Texas play Iowa State on a Thursday this fall? Hope you scheduled it last year! Not only that, you burn the other days so most of the time you're just sitting around not exactly enjoying your vacation. Hospital pharmacy isn't a walk in the park either. 99% of hospitals won't hire you out of school. They make you do a "residency" which is 1 year of you working at a hospital as a regular pharmacist but you have weekly projects AND did I mention that you get paid $30k a year? Yep if you want to avoid retail pharmacy you are going to take a 6 figure pay cut and then hope to god that another hospital hires you at a salary somewhere in between residency pay and normal pharmacist pay.
Now that I'm out of that business I feel so much better about myself and life in general. Took a paycut but it was absolutely worth it.
Jesus you guys need a better union. You rushing is not in my best interests. I don't make any sudden decisions in the cockpit, and the more I feel I'm being rushed by someone, the slower and more deliberate I operate.

  4. just want to note that the UK, a country of 66M people, have 650 MPs in the commons, and 785 in the lords.
meanwhile, the united states, a country of more than 325M people, have 435 representatives in the house, and 100 senators.
    carry on.
That's what we need. More pigs feeding at the trough.

  5. My bad, I guess I was thinking to this year's Santa Clara game.  So the two semifinals games serve as their respective bowl games as well, but the title game also gets to co-host a regular bowl game before title week?  Got it.  We may make it then, but I don't see how A&M ends up there.
What if a nuclear strike or meteorite takes out 40 or so FBS programs? Did you consider that?
  6. They are the largest holders of U.S. debt by foreign governments, but foreign governments and investors only hold about 42% of our national debt. The rest is held by the government itself and domestic investors.
That's at least 58% I would wipe off the books. You just write it off Jerry.
