  1. The Post does not open until noon on Saturday. Food there is good.
  2. Downtown Corpus is not exactly overrun with sports bars. I know Railroad has several televisions around the place and Brewster Street Icehouse near Whataburger Field is probably not short televisions. Food and drinks at both locations. They open at 11 am on Saturdays so assuming kickoff is sometime shortly after that you can get to either place when they open and not miss anything. Cassidy's Irish Pub or Flanagan's might be an option. I don't think I've ever been in either establishment so I cannot say for sure. I do not recall any televisions at Mesquite Street Pizza but the last time I was there it was late at night and I was drinking so who knows. You might also look at Crawdaddy's and the places on Water Street.

    Say what again!

I think this was the original title of a Beatles song, then the LSD wore off and they read their notes as "Strawberry Fields Forever".

    SEC BASEBALL

You forgot to mention that one of those wins over Alabama was a win in the CWS title game. Forgive me for asking what is most likely a dumb question, but where did you find the W-L records for Texas against the current and soon-to-be SEC member teams? Is there a Winsipedia-type of website out there for baseball (and basketball for that matter) like for football?
  5. https://www.visitcorpuschristitx.org/trip-ideas/must-see/best-brunch-spots-in-corpus-christi/
  6. It is probably open again by now, but The Exchange was closed when I was downtown a few weeks ago. Think there was a positive COVID test among the staff. Might want to call ahead and be sure. I like stopping in at Rebel Toad next door to The Exchange if I am in that part of town and just want a beer or two. Mesquite Street Pizza serves food late into the evening if I am not mistaken. As far as brunch, I cannot help you much there. Maybe Bella Luna does brunch? I don't know. But, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, Nueces Brewing has some pretty good bbq. Brisket for brunch seems like a good idea to me.

    New Music 2021

ABBA is releasing some new music and a new album in November. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/sep/02/abba-reunite-for-voyage-first-new-album-in-40-years
  8. Oh, and this thread reminds me I need to hit Hamlin's Pharmacy. Haven't been there in a while.
  9. There is the Blackbeard's on North Beach and Blackbeard's Too in Ingleside if you need it. Like at Denny's, you can eat for free on your birthday. At least, I assume you can still do that at Denny's. Maybe Denny's stopped doing that. I don't know. But I do know you can eat for free on your birthday at either of the Blackbeard's establishments.
  10. Seems like I keep hearing commercials for Cheetah's on the sports radio station. Could be wrong on that. It might be for one of the other clubs in town.
  11. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, there was a strip club on the Gulf Freeway in Houston just outside the beltway that had a glass-enclosed shower stage for the dancers. Maybe OP is constructing something similar?
  12. When it first opened, the Yo Philly Cheesesteak place by the Radisson was pretty good. The last time I went, I thought they had slipped some. But still not bad if you need a cheesesteak fix. And it has been a few years since I was last in there, so maybe they re-upped their game. Or my last trip was an off day.
  13. Yeah, you do not come to Corpus Christi for the food. A whole lot of chains and a whole lot of unremarkable establishments. Nothing that is a destination for sure. My $0.02 worth having lived in the Corpus area for the last decade (assuming all places are not closed for pandemic-related reasons): Salty Oak BBQ is worth a visit in my opinion. I am sure the regulars in the Texas BBQ thread would crap all over it but I am not a bbq snob. If you are out Calallen way, Mike Cotten's BBQ was good the last time I was there. Love B & J's. Good pizza, the Jack's wings are great, and great beer selection. Like the original location on SPID more than the newer one on South Staples. Second the Nueces Brewing recommendation. I also enjoy visiting Lorelei Brewing when I am in the area. The Post at Lamar Park may be worth checking out to see if it is the kind of place you like. Located in the same shopping plaza center as BKK Thai Kitchen. You can always go to a Boat 'n Net and have the very Corpus Christi experience of ordering food by shouting into a PVC pipe. Executive Surf Club usually has live music if that is your thing. As I think was stated above, none of the Water Street places are bad, just nothing that is all that exceptional. Railroad Seafood Station does some brewing and has a chicken fried steak that was solid the last time I was there. If you are out Tuloso/Annaville way, S & J Bakery makes some kolaches that always go fast when a vendor brings them to the office. If you need a 5 pound breakfast taco, visit Recio's Smokehouse on the south side. Black Monk Tavern on Gollihar is a good dive bar.
  14. I like how you call it a "shop" instead of a "she shed".
  15. I do not know if this has ever been confirmed, but it has long been suspected that Flay is the father of Jones' child.
  16. Junior high me thought Sledge Hammer! with David Rasche and Anne-Marie Martin was some of the funniest television available. I am sure that if I watched an episode today I would realize just how stupid junior high me was.
  17. Couldn't the homeless be put to work pulling people in rickshaws to Zilker Park? They could keep to the bike lanes.
  18. Not a board like Surly or secrant or tigerdroppings, but definitely SEC-focused. Is it worth your time to read? Don't know, ymmv. https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/
  19. Lake Jackson native here. Have been to more of these things than I care to think about. Do they still have the contest for guys to see who has the most mosquito-like legs? Festivals like these pretty much all look the same now. You could have told me these were photos from the Shrimporee in Aransas Pass and I would have believed you. Same sketchy-looking rides, same food booths, same booths hawking crap that no one really needs, music acts all cut from the same mold...I am guessing no matter where you go in this great state of ours that you can find a festival like this if that is what you are seeking. I have also come to the conclusion that if your area needs rain, all you have to do is schedule a festival like this. It is almost a guarantee that staging a festival like this will ensure a torrential downpour shortly before or during the festival. I am not a music festival guy, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the same caveat applies.

    SEC BASEBALL

Okay, I am trying to figure the math in your quote. By my count, since 1990, the SEC has won 13 national titles in baseball. I see no other school that has won the CWS in 1990 or beyond that later joined the SEC (Texas and Oklahoma pending). I guess whomever wrote that original quote is counting Missouri's 1954 title? What I find even more confusing is the number of 18. By my count, the SEC had a team finish runner-up in Omaha 13 times. I am counting conference membership at the time the CWS took place, so I am not counting second place finishes by South Carolina in 1975 and 1977, Missouri in 1958 and 1964, or Arkansas in 1979. I presume that is what the author of that quote is doing since that would give a tally of 18 second place finishers. I had never really looked at past CWS results in this way, but strangely, the SEC's first baseball title was in 1990 when Georgia won it all and only two of the second place finishes came before 1990, Tennessee in 1951 and Alabama in 1983. Kind of surprising, at least to me, that there was so little baseball success in the SEC for so long. I mean, it is not like baseball just all of a sudden arrived in the southeast. Also, fuck these people that retroactively claim titles and appearances. Must have been an aggy that wrote the original quote.
