  1. Since Wake Forest won the title last year, that is not the case. I posted a story about this in the men's golf team thread, but Texas men's coach John Fields is spearheading a movement to make La Costa the permanent site of the NCAA golf championships. Here is an article from the San Diego paper about La Costa and how Texas became this year's host. Relevant part from the linked article: Your next question: Why is Texas hosting a college golf tournament in Carlsbad? The original choice was San Diego State, just as Arizona State was the NCAA championships host at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., for the previous three years. “Everything was going pretty smoothly,” said Aztecs men’s coach Ryan Donovan, whose team fell one place short of qualifying this year. “Then kind of at the last hour, they decided that, well, you’re not going to have any access to the golf course. Like, you can’t play here one round. All the other courses in previous years, that’s part of the deal when you host (to have access). You put all that effort in. “Once they said that, I said, ‘Why? So we could see our name on TV a couple times that it’s hosted by San Diego State?’ I just didn’t think there was enough value for the effort and work we were going to have to do with no guarantee of playing in it.” Texas stepped in to preserve the event’s neutrality, and Donovan admits it was a good decision given Field’s stature and contacts. One of those contacts is Robert Rowling, the billionaire owner of Omni Hotels and a prominent University of Texas donor.

  4. I saw some at HEB the other day. So, yes, it is a real thing.
  5. I know there is a thread about this but I will very disappointed if the SEC does not go to a 9 game schedule soon with a 3-6-6 scheduling format. I do not want to go a decade or longer in between matchups. What the hell is the point of being in a conference with other schools if you play them so infrequently it feels like a non-conference matchup? I am already annoyed that the conference has yet to pull the trigger on getting this settled. Tell the bitch schools that don't want a 9 game schedule that they can take the media rights check and shut the fuck up and stop being pussies. Now back to the regularly scheduled shitting on aggy...
  6. Seems, if not appropriate, then at least adjacent to this thread. Indiana judge rules tacos, burritos are sandwiches Allen Superior Judge Craig J. Bobay on Monday ruled a Famous Taco restaurant would be permittable and the commitments don’t need to be amended. In his ruling, the judge wrote, “The proposed Famous Taco restaurant falls within the scope of the general use approved in the original Written Commitment. The proposed Famous Taco restaurant would serve made-to-order tacos, burritos, and other Mexican-style food, and would not have outdoor seating, drive through service, or serve alcohol. The Court agrees with Quintana that tacos and burritos are Mexican style sandwiches, and the original Written Commitment does not restrict potential restaurants to only American cuisine-style sandwiches.” The judge also noted that, despite his ruling, he did not consider the plan commission’s actions to be improper, leaving the door open for an appeal.
  7. Did a search but did not see anything posted. Seems relevant to this thread. ‘Jeopardy!’ Gets New Pop Culture Trivia Spinoff at Amazon Prime Video
  8. After day 2 of the Austin regional:
  9. Not a watch guy myself but saw this article and thought some who post on this thread would find it interesting. I had no idea that championship watches were a thing but at least in college they are, thanks to a former Penn lacrosse goalie. 11. One can keep track of the Austin regional here.
  12. Too late to edit post but the above Starbucks figures are for fiscal 2nd quarter of 2024, 13 week period ending April 30th. Starbucks financial press release here.
  13. I'm not saying Starbucks is in danger of going out of business, but this article says that Starbucks had a 3% drop in North American sales due to a 7% drop in the number of transactions. I skimmed the article so I may have missed the time period this covers but I presume it is the first quarter this year. Is Starbucks stable? I would agree with that statement. Growing? Those numbers perhaps suggest otherwise. Maybe overall Starbucks is growing. I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night so I certainly not an expert. I rarely hit up Starbucks myself as I think, like was posted upthread, the coffee is not that great. Your mileage may vary though.
  14. Does this count?
  15. I believe there is a Surly member or two that resides in Michigan. Do any of them live near Dearborn?
  16. For less than that (seriously, the price on the website is $9,420) you can get a robot dog with a flamethrower. We are almost to the point of actually having sharks with lasers. Hell, those probably do exist in a DARPA aquarium somewhere.
  17. Does every county court house have a passport office? I just looked on the website for my county court house and did not see anything about a passport office. I live in a more rural county, so it would not totally surprise me if not every county court house has a passport office. I need to update my passport but I have no travel plans so this is not anything I need to do right away, but it is something I've been meaning to do and have been unable to overcome my inherent laziness.

  22. What is their Surly handle? We’re addicted to naked cruises and have already spent $40K — here’s why we’ll never do a clothed one again There are pictures in the linked article for the curious.
  23. Personally speaking, for me to give a shit about the other SEC teams (at least the ones outside of aggy and arky) then the SEC had better do a 9 game conference schedule and some sort of regular rotation so we see the other SEC teams on some sort of frequent basis. Hard to work up any kind of hate for a team if Texas will only face them once every 12 years and will come to Austin once every two decades.
