  1. A soccer expert can weigh in but I believe they do this quite often. The risk is that they move too late and the ball is already kicked and the guy is left unguarded for a possible shot on goal. The self proclaimed soccer experts I know claim that if the offside rule is modified or eliminated then scoring would be too easy.
  2. Fuck the thieves. Booby traps should be legal.
  3. Worst rule in any sport. I might watch soccer if they did away with it. At least have a blue line.
  4. Well done. Add mustard and onions and it’s perfect.
  5. Good advice here. My first lawyer boss loved to say that raising kids is the most important job you can have and it doesn’t require a license, there’s no training for it and any moron can do it. A lot of people should not have kids.
  6. Well in this fantasy world the other inmates love and respect him for being Saul and getting their friends/relatives (or other criminals) off or with reduced terms.
  7. Subsidized? Sweetheart contract? Sounds like he locked in what ended up being a good deal. It could have gone the other way if energy prices had moved differently. Good for him for how it turned out.
  8. Propane burns hotter than natural gas--a good thing for cooking. But maybe the design of the indoor range will compensate--not sure. I can say that my Bull natural gas outdoor grill did not get nearly as hot as my propane grill.
  9. As shocking as it is to most on this board, many people still like BB ice cream.
  10. Makes sense. So flashing her old bar card was yet another misrepresentation.
  11. So Kim goes back to the law in New Mexico? The NM bar might have a problem with her affidavit and the DA would be duty bound to give it to them. Howard’s widow would still use it in her civil case although Saul’s stunt in the courtroom might help a bit.
  12. I can’t abide cheese. I did forget to mention sugar. Depending on the tartness of the apples, I’ll add 3/4 to one cup of sugar.
  13. Less is more. Use only about 1/8 tsp of ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Do a lattice top crust. Unless you are good with homemade pastry, use Pillsbury Already Pie Crusts. Dot the top with 4 Tbl of butter. Bake for 30 min at 425 and 15 at 350. For the apples, Granny Smith is my favorite. 5-6 thinly sliced depending on the size. 1/8 tsp of cinnamon and nutmeg. Dash of salt and 2 tsp of lemon juice and 4 Tbl of flour and 1/4 cup of water.
  14. Setrac.org (27 counties in SE Texas; 9.5 million people) is now only updating the Covid stats once a week. They used to update it daily. The last update showed about 4.7% of ICU patients were confirmed or suspected for Covid. Admittances were trending down.
  15. This year’s batch of Hatch green sauce, before and after using the blender.
  16. Was about to post this. When I was a kid I recall the dads, after many beers and in between domino games, would see who could bend a church key with their bare hands. Not easy.
  17. I never knew that. So if the intersection is small then the one car that fits in the intersection gets to go through when the light turns? But not others following him, right?
  18. Not a fan of Howard’s wife. Last time we saw her with Howard she despised him at worst, and at best had zero respect for him. There seemed to be no connection at all between them. Sure, losing an estranged spouse has to be tough but she seems way too hurt considering the nature of their relationship at the end.
  19. Better tasters can probably tell the difference, but in blind tastings I can’t tell the difference between Weller 12 and the SR. I don’t even bother looking for the 12 anymore. YMMV.
  20. Not just at those places. I see that every day walking (very slowly) the tunnels of downtown Houston.
  21. Big rain in uptown Houston.

    Getting old sucks

Yep. I know a guy who still can’t see well out of one eye after shingles.

I’m 60. I had the heart CT scan done last week and it came back at zero.
  24. My $.02. My wife and I are 60 and our daughters are 28 and 31. They've turned out well. One is married but no grandkids yet. Kids are wonderful and a joy, and we had a lot of fun with their out-of-school activities like swim team, soccer, softball, and basketball. Coaching them in basketball was a blast, and then high school sports was really fun when the talent level and coaching was a bit better. I'm Catholic and I raised them Catholic and the Sunday school, first communion and confirmation process was very rewarding. But raising kids it's not always easy. They can be a pain in the ass and, speaking bluntly, if a person is extremely selfish, he/she may be better off not having kids. They also are, or can be, extremely expensive depending on where you live, your peer group, summer camp, choice of schools/colleges, etc. It's been mentioned before, but you really never can be prepared for kids. It's crisis management 24/7 and in our experience there was always drama. And you never know what you are going to get. I've seen the nicest parents end up with rotten kids. Shit happens. Shitty kids do not necessarily come from bad parents. In my experience, raising our kids in the Briargrove and Memorial areas of Houston, the kids that we know that did not do well were early drug and alcohol abusers. Sadly, some of them are already dead. There's no guarantee it will work, but you'll have the best chance of ending up with good kids if you get to know their friends and make sure their friends are good kids. What a "good" kid is can be subjective and I won't engage in a debate on what it means, but if your kids are hanging with a bunch of druggies/hoodlums/criminals, that's not a good thing. Making sure your kids socialize from an early age with other kids that you deem acceptable can go a long way.
