  1. I had not heard that the booster can be a different shot than the initial shot(s).
  2. Y’all need to read today’s The Morning op-ed in the NYTimes. https://nl.nytimes.com/f/a/pT2bo6XAPjGWyDihe4AYNg~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRjQqBwP0S_aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubnl0aW1lcy5jb20vYnkvZGF2aWQtbGVvbmhhcmR0P2NhbXBhaWduX2lkPTkmZW1jPWVkaXRfbm5fMjAyMTEwMDgmaW5zdGFuY2VfaWQ9NDIzMjcmbmw9dGhlLW1vcm5pbmcmcmVnaV9pZD0xMTM5MTk4OTEmc2VnbWVudF9pZD03MDk4NSZ0ZT0xJnVzZXJfaWQ9YWI3NjAzOTc4ZDBjYTRjMTJhZDI0MWZmNjM4NDYxZjFXA255dEIKYV9wG2BhP70smFIUZGF2aWR6ZHVua0BnbWFpbC5jb21YBAAAAAA~
  3. So it’s not called Indian Princesses anymore? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. We had great Indian Princess groups with both of my daughters. Fun times.
  4. Your question was rhetorical, but absolutely. It should be an axiom. Someone beating you with bare hands/kicking etc. can inflict severe bodily harm and death. You shouldn’t have to wait until you are near death or nearly unconscious before you can use deadly force in self defense. If that’s not the law it ought to be.
  5. Was about to post this. And, according to the most recent stats, percentage wise, the church is growing faster than the world population.
  6. Somewhat similarly, the Pope and the Roman bureaucracy do not control the operations of the various diocese throughout the world. They dictate canon law and matters of religious doctrine, but the operations of each diocese is governed by the bishop of that diocese.
  7. Same here. And I could have waited even longer. There was only one pecan tree about 60 feet away from my pool so it stayed very clean most of the year.
  8. I took the Pfizer shots (six months ago). I had my annual physical today and asked my doc about whether I should get a booster. I'm 59, in good health, not fat, and with no other risk factors. He said to wait on a booster.
  9. The shithead kid’s parents may not have much exposure. Per Texas statute, they are liable for up to $25k in property damage per occurrence plus attorneys’ fees and costs. The bikers can get new bikes. A personal injury claim again the parents for the shithead’s tort is trickier and will depend on the facts. If he wasn’t working for his parents at the time (their agent—and even then they can make some arguments), or if the parents were unaware that their brat had a propensity for such behaviour then they have a pretty good defense. They’ll still get sued and it will settle.
  10. Disunited Nations by Zeihan covers this issue with China and other nations as well. It's an interesting view of what might happen in the world in the not too distant future.
  11. Some engines are loud without rolling coal. That’s what I was getting at. The loud issue also applies to those morons with that loud bass shit coming from what apparently is considered music.
  12. Yep. ICU beds are pretty much at full, or near full, capacity irrespective of Covid spikes. The graphs at Setrac.org show this very well.
  13. I had to google “rolling coal”. I never knew it was intentional. There should be a stiff fine for that. Loud engines too.
  14. But there are plenty with room. And the numbers in SETex peaked some time ago and are coming down. SE Texas as a region has never had to eat into the Covid excess ICU capacity levels. And as for general beds in the SE Texas region (approximately 9.5 million people) over 7,600 beds are available of a total of 19,990 general beds. Covid patients make up less than 16% of the occupied general beds.
  15. YoutubeTV’s email said they will drop their price by $10 per month while the content is off their platform. peacock premium is 4.99. I’d rather not have to switch channels on the Roku, but apparently I can get the same content for a little less money.
  16. How would he know if it did? If symptoms are light you’d never know if it was the vaccine or that you got a light case—just like the majority of cases. I’m not arguing against the vaccine or that the testing suggests that the vaccine prevents serious infection and deaths. But in individual cases you’ll never know if it was the vaccine or whether you just got a minor infection.
  17. Lasagna. Just buy several from Costco. Grill several chicken breasts. Put a couple in the fridge and they will last a few days and freeze the rest. Pork tenderloins save well too.

    Getting old sucks

That preacher needs to read Younger Next Year by Crowley and Lodge.
  19. On the positive side, new hospital admits in the greater SE Texas region continue to plummet.

    Wine

Any recommendations for wedding wines? Probably only a handful of wine geeks will be at the wedding. We are splurging on the venue, band, liquor and food so the wine will not be classified Bordeaux. It mostly will be a bunch of millennials in their early thirties in attendance. I want to keep it under $20 per bottle. They are popular but I don’t like inexpensive pinots. I’m considering Villa Antinori and Falesco Vitiano from Italy for the red. There are a bunch of Southern Rhône’s imported by Robert Katcher that I like. There are a few Cali Cabs that I like under $20 (Louis Martini, Beringer). I would appreciate any ideas for a red and a white.
  21. Pretty much all my friends have had it. I’ve never been tested. My wife and I think we had it in late Feb 2020. She’s never sick and she got the worst flu she’s ever had. But after three days she was fine. I had a lighter case right after her. We were vaxxed by early April.
