  1. The harshness of the accent. Some of the ones I grew up with in west Fort Bend County seemed to have just stepped off the boat.
  2. Some public clubs occasionally hold demo days and if the rep is good he knows how to fit you. Wildcat in Houston used to hold demo days a few times a year and most of the mfgs were there. Not sure if they still do it. I don’t recall it costing anything. I bought a driver at one of them several years ago.
  3. That sounds like the Thomas Jefferson Bordeaux that ended up being fake.
  4. Damn. I’ve been enjoying my setup with Roku/YTTV and I haven’t thought about alternatives to YTTV. What’s the next best service for local channels and the basic cable? I suppose I could replace the Rokus with firesticks.
  5. Shingles vaccines were 10x worse post shot than Pfizer Covid vaccine. And that’s common. It’s also a two dose vaccine. The first and second doses gave me a mid level fever. Only the second Pfizer dose gave me a slight fever.
  6. It’s a great game. Surprisingly easy for people who would not consider themselves to be great athletes to pick up and enjoy. The nature and rules of the game also have a way of bringing say a very good tennis player down a few notches. Good game for couples followed by cocktails.
  7. Entrust Immediate Care on Memorial Dr. across from the Black Walnut had a popup tent offering free no appointment vaccines this morning. They have been doing it since Wednesday. I’m guessing there are locations all over town and I assume other clinics are doing the same. There was no line at 9:00 this morning.
  8. What neonmoon and fud said. For a very inexpensive but drinkable bourbon try Benchmark 8. You might like it more than bourbons 2 or 3x the price. I refuse to pay $$$ for alcohol and I don’t have the patience to drive all over the place looking for the hard to find but reasonably priced bourbons so i pretty much stick with BT, Weller SR, WT 101, and Evan Williams BIB. When you have several different bourbons on hand try them blind. You might be surprised what you find out. Label bias is a thing.
  9. Are you considering selling it? If not, why does the current market price make you want to wait to drink it? If you are concerned about the replacement value then you may never drink it.
  10. ISWYDT. He and his wife, as well as the other victims, did get back a bunch of their money.
  11. I just sealed my coping not the decking. Never had a problem with decking not being sealed. Every week or two I would hose down the coping and the decking with fresh water as a precaution. I resealed the coping every year. Never had a problem and I would never have a pool without an SWG.
  12. When you get to 58 you don’t give a rat’s ass about other guys in the gym. It’s about staying in shape and not about bulk. I’m trying to maintain weight and staying fit.
  13. I might have had the bowel movement issue as well. But it’s hard to say that the second shot caused it.
  14. Gold spoons and soft plastics have always been my top choices in the surf. Mirrorlures too.
  15. For those doing a drive-through, be sure to put your car in park after the shot while you wait. I know of a guy who had a reaction during the wait and passed out. His car was not in park. Luckily, no one was injured but his car was fucked up.
  16. Just hoping for a new top picture in Tapa. No offense to the poster who posted the pic of his wife pre weight loss.
  17. DCA is probably correct, but I still prefer Pappas Bros. And I like their thick, heavily breaded onion rings.
  18. Question for inshore speckled trout experts. Do surf run trout move to the bays in the winter? Or, asked another way, should they have been affected by the freeze?
  19. Shingrix is recommended for people over 50. It is fairly effective-IIRC around 90% depending on your age. It was hard to find when it was first approved but it’s widely available now. Check your insurance. Some insurance policies will not cover it. My post Shingrix symptoms were similar to what I experienced post Pfizer covid vaccine (fever, chills, aches, etc.) just much worse. But, like the covid vaccine, it only lasted about 12 hours and i was fine although with Shingrix i had the same reaction to both shots not just the second one for the Pfizer covid vaccine. Also, the shot contains more stuff. It hurt going in and it took longer to administer. It seemed like they were injecting pancake syrup into my arm. And shots don’t usually bother me much. I gave myself allergy shots in my 20s.
  20. I’ve had shingles as well (before the current vaccine was approved) and I was happy to get the Shingrix vaccine as soon as it came out. Topic for another thread but based on my experience with shingles and my friends that have both shingles and covid, I’m way more afraid of shingles than covid. If you’ve had chicken pox you really need to get the Shingrix vaccine. Probably should get it anyway.
  21. This thread is a classic example of Surly hyperbole, sarcasm, exaggeration, and irony. The very reasons we come here and find this site so entertaining. Wait until some of the pussies here get the shingles (two dose) vaccine. 10x worse than the Pfizer.
  22. Nope. It’s not so simple when it’s my kid. Again, now for the fourth or fifth time, it’s not an easy decision for parents of youngsters. I wouldn’t fault a parent for getting their kids vaccinated nor would i tell them they are wrong to avoid the vaccine in this particular case. Looking out for others is noble. If it’s my kid, and under these unique circumstances, it would be a difficult choice.
  23. Reread my posts. It’s a relatively new type of vaccine. I’m just saying a parent should think twice about possible complications from a vaccine when the underlying disease is not very dangerous for that age group. I’ll say it for the third or fourth time, you aren’t wrong to have your children vaccinated against covid. But you aren’t crazy to not wanting to risk your child’s health under these circumstances. As for them possibly being spreaders, that’s why everyone else should be vaccinated—especially the high risk among us, and like my entire family has been or soon will be.
