  1. I cook fat side down in my egg. +2 on the part about making sure you keep plenty of water in the drip pan. And make sure not to trim too much fat from the flat part of the brisket. I tend to err on the side of more fat than less. I cook hotter than most (around 300) and the flats of my briskets are not too dry.
  2. That's pretty much my experience with the bourbon guys at that GG, but they are nice guys and I always ask if they have anything nice in the back. It's been a while, but I've scored W12 there as well as W107.
  3. Yes, I know the store fairly well. I bought W12 there last summer the day it was released. The guy behind me bought the last bottle. Lately I’ve been going more to GG on Woodway across from Second Baptist.
  4. I drive by it every day on the way home from downtown. For grins, I will go by this evening. I can always use another handle of Weller SR.
  5. I’ve seen it at GG lately but not at Spec’s downtown.
  6. That actually would be interesting. I’ve done blind tastings and it’s amazing how the label affects our taste. I have been unable to tell Weller SR from Weller 12 in a blind tasting. I’m convinced that a lot of Weller SR is being sold on the secondary market in a Weller 12 bottle. I’m sure someone has figured out how to reseal the bottles. I hardly ever see Weller SR at Spec’s. Last week the guy just laughed when I asked if he had any Weller SR in stock.
  7. I was almost hit by a train crossing a double tracked railroad crossing in high school. It was late at night and I saw a train coming very slowly from the west. A cross road was parallel to the tracks so I decided to take a left and cross at the next crossing before the train made it there. All of the lights were flashing but this was before all the tracks had cross arms. I never thought to look east for a train coming from the east on the other track. As I crossed the track the engineer lays on the whistle. It was going about 40 and missed me by about 30 feet.
  8. Great thread. I'm team Paul all the way and were it not for Yoko there's no telling how great future Lennon-McCartney songs could have been. Still, at one point, and maybe they still do, they held the Guinness record for most prolific songwriters ever. This discussion is in stark contrast to the state of modern music--if you can even call it that.
  9. Well, when your dermatologist takes a couple of precancerous blemishes off your neck and ears and tells you to quit wearing the baseball cap and wear a wide brim hat like Schwartzel you should do it.
  10. I’m trying Fubo on the free trial mainly for Astros baseball. It’s adding ABC local, the ESPNs and disney channels in early August. With those additions I might drop YTTV as my main service. Is anyone using Fubo as their primary service? The DVR function maxes out at 500 hours compared to unlimited on YTTV. YTTV has all of the Showtime and Starz stations so that’s a plus.
  11. Joe Doggett, the old Chronicle outdoor writer, wrote that they are fairly easy to catch in Braes Bayou in the summer on flies made with coffee beans. They look like June bugs.
  12. My favorite probably was the La Gloria Cubana in Robusto and Churchill sizes (yes, avatar does check out). Davidoff's were nice too--i bought a bunch in Switzerland in the 90's--they were about $8 each back then. I also smoked a bunch of Padrons from Nicaragua and Puros Indios from Honduras. I was joking--sort of --on biting the ends. I usually used a straight cutter that you put between your thumb and middle finger, but it was not unusual for me to just bite the end off. Except for being a little untidy, I certainly never noticed a difference in how the cigar smoked.
  13. Same here. I used to be a 2-3 a week cigar smoker and I never experienced that. I now smoke one or two a year. And I always just bit a bit off the end. The cutters are for pussies.
  14. This thread make me miss my family’s place on the Dry Frio about 10 miles from Neal’s. My dad sold it in 1986. Tubing down the Frio with a cooler and case of beer was a blast. I love Texas.
  15. Hope you guys aren’t giving up your prior passion. There’s room for all kinds of booze/beer. Vodka, bourbon, scotch, beer, tequila, and wine all have a place in my heart. I discovered bourbon about five years ago and it’s now my primary dark liquor, replacing scotch. I still drink scotch and vodka is my primary summer booze. Beer was my first love and it never gets old. Wine is still my go-to with a fine meal.
  16. Same with YTTV and your phone and casting to a smart TV.
  17. I’m making several pizzas this weekend for a dinner party. I’ll do a margherita and one with pretty much everything. What are your favorites?
  18. Agreed. That's why I would not go all the way with it. But perhaps it's worth some settlement value.
  19. No. It's interpreted against them, especially if they drafted it, but the language and the overall agreement still must have some meaning.
  20. "Foregoing" (meaning "preceding") should have been "following" so that it would read "Notwithstanding any of the following . . . ." So if it was written correctly it would mean that even if any of (1) through (5) occur then you are still liable. I wouldn't recommend going all the way with it, but perhaps you can argue the language the LL drafted is vague or ambiguous or nonsensical such that it somehow relieves you of liability. Very likely not a winner.
  21. Sure, it’s in the cart but they still fumble around to find it as it gets tossed around with their phone and other shit in the cart. Then there are the ones that vecro to the frame of the cart. Sometimes they fall off and the player has to go back a hole or two to find it. I like that my watch is on my wrist and with a two second glance I have what I need even if it’s a blind pin placement. It also has a nice feature that with a press of a button it will display exactly how far you hit your shot when you get to your ball. My playing partners will hit their best drive and ask me to measure it. It’s almost always shorter than they think.
  22. I check it against sprinkler markers all the time when one is close by and it will not cause a delay. Always right on or within a yard or two at most. It’s also consistent with the guy shooting the distance with a range finder and if it isn’t it’s usually the rangefinder reading that was wrong—likely user error. I trust the watch completely. Do range finders give you front/back/middle? Depending on pin location and the slope of the green the front or back of the green yardage is more important to me than the pin location. For me, it’s the speed and convenience. I get annoyed with playing partners taking too much time fumbling for the range finder, stepping out of the cart and walking to their ball, trying to hold it steady after a few drinks, and they still have trouble getting a good reading. They then have to walk back to the cart and put it away. All of that adds time to a round when each guy does it. And sometimes I have to tell them to read it again because I know they didn’t get a good reading based on what’s showing on my watch.
  23. Bushnell iOn 2. I have the previous generation and I love it. I prefer the convenience of having front/middle/back always on my wrist. And it also gives distance to bunkers and penalty areas. The rangefinder takes too long and the watch is way more convenient for me because I usually walk.
  24. Typically, the people that regret it have corrosion issues with soft sandstone. Your pool is probably over stabilized. Pucks continue to add stabilizer until it gets so high that you will need to drain water to get the CYA level down. As said above, check out troublefreepools.com. The forums there explain the science very well.
