It's pretty clear that US Soccer insists on filling out the back of the roster with MLS players.
  2. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
It's not like our starting 8s and their primary backup are all returning from recent muscle injuries. At least we have 4 RBs though.
  3. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Worst CB pairing and starting 9 in the World Cup.
  4. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Here is the starting lineup against Wales: GK: Turner RB: Dest RCB: Zimmerman LCB: Long LB: Robinson 6: Adams Left 8: McKennie Right 8: Musah LW: Pulisic 9: Jesus RW: Weah
  5. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
    Reports that Pepi is injured.
  6. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
I'm not sure that greggg could have picked a worse roster
  7. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
As we all knew, greggg is the dumbest fuck on the planet and should be publicly executed. This asshole is going to start Long and Jesus for sure. Group stage exit guaranteed
  8. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Jesus Christ. Morris, Roldan, Long, Yedlin AND Jesus. These dudes are all awful players. No Pepi either
  9. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Shaq Moore on the roster instead of Cannon which the new leak also had. New leak also had no Tillman
  10. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
They just read it on a stream. No Pepi. Haji Wright, Roldan and Morris all in. Can't be true The no Steffen is true
  11. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
New roster leak is insane if true
  12. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Cannon actually plays CB for his club so he provides depth as the 5th FB and 5th CB.
  13. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
To be fair to gregg, which I generally avoid, Ream is only on the roster due to Richards' injury. Richards has confirmed that he is missing out due to injury. Similarly, Roldan is an injury policy for LDLT and McKennie who are both returning from muscle injuries that could easily flare up during the WC. Neither of those guys are in the 26 w/o the injuries. My biggest concern remains Long and Jesus as likely starters and the insistence on the dual 8 system (which as noted above is basically confirmed by the player selection).
  14. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
The GKs and D are exactly as expected except Ream comes in for an injured Richards. No real surprises in MF or F except that LDLT is healthy enough to make the team but Gregggg still thinks he needs to bring Roldan. Also no room for Pefok as expected or Arriola or Morris (I really thought one of them would go). All of this suggests that Greggggg is entirely wedded to his 4-3-3 system with two 8s with Reyna and Aaronson playing exclusively on the wing instead of potentially as a 10.
  15. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
    Here is the leaked roster
  16. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
And Ream is only going because Richards is injured.
  17. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
By the way, here is my gergggg prediction (changes in bold): GK: Turner, Steffen, Johnson FB: Dest, Cannon, Robinson, Scally, Yedlin CB: Zimmerman, Long, CCV, Richards CM: Adams, Musah, McKennie, Acosta, Roldan Wing: Pulisic, Reyna, Aaronson, Weah, Arriola, Morris 9: Pepi, Ferreira, Sargent I switched Tillman for Morris at the last second because gerrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggggggg
  18. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
This is where I am. He has been fine to good over his last five games and we have no one else.
  19. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
What's your preferred World Cup 26? Not your projection but who you would actually select. GK: Turner, Steffen, Horvath FB: Dest, Cannon, Robinson, Scally, Yedlin CB: Zimmerman, Ream, CCV, Richards CM: Adams, Musah, McKennie, Acosta, DLT (Mihailovic if DLT injured), Tillman Wing: Pulisic, Reyna, Aaronson, Weah 9: Pepi, Pefok, Sargent (also an option at RW), Vazquez My 24-26 were Tillman, Vazquez and Yedlin, respectively. Tillman provides something different than the other options at CM. I don't need another hold it together back-up like Acosta and DLT. Tillman can carry the ball forward. I would rather play Sargent at RW than Arriola so we would need another 9 if Sargent plays on the wing. I prefer someone who can score (Vazquez) to someone who can't (Jesus) as my 9. FB strikes me as an area where we could lose some guys to injury so we should probably add someone there. Yedlin wasn't good this season but he has World Cup experience. He wouldn't play for my team absent some bizarre developments so leadership/experience is enough to get him on the plane as the last guy on the roster.
  20. It was going to take something to top the Queen but here we are
  21. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Don't disagree. In less than a year, he went from competing for a spot on the plane to ggg's unquestioned leader of the back line in the WC. What pisses me off is that an experienced leader CB is readily available who could take some pressure off of Zimmerman and let him just focus on his game yet voldemort insists on Long. It's absolutely baffling
  22. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Exactly. He has been repeatedly beaten on set pieces and his form was already declining before Miles Robinson went down. Zimmerman has only been locked in as a starter since Robinson went down and Richards couldn't get healthy. At the end of WCQ, the question was whether Richards could get enough PT to hopefully supplant Zimmerman. In an ideal world, our starting CBs would be Robinson and Richards with Ream and Zimmerman as capable backups. I think Zimmerman would have been fine as the complimentary CB but he is now being asked to act as lead dog in a World Cup with a looming disaster next to him. All that said, Long (and the system that Greggg believes his selection supports) is THE issue. All of Greggg's flaws are somehow perfectly exemplified by his selection of this one player. Overreliance on MLS players, continuing to play a high line without fast CBs, selecting favorites, and an inability to adjust to opponents and changing circumstances. The option to start a capable and experienced EPL CB next to his EPL LB teammate is an unbelievably fortunate opportunity after your starting LCB goes down. The ability to protect your new CB pairing with a double pivot including an in-form EPL 6 in Adams (who so obviously plays better in a double pivot) and a fit-for-purpose Musah is an obvious solution to our defensive dilemma. Just ditch the high line, protect the CBs and play a LCB who has unparalleled chemistry with the LB. OR start two out of form and slow CBs and rigidly adhere to a defensive system (high line) and formation (single 6) that doesn't cater to the strengths of your players. When Aaron Long runs out there against Wales, Greggg's legacy as the worst coach in the history of US soccer will be written.
  23. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
Zimmerman is significantly overrated by the USMNT fan base but we have no other option. he’s certainly not a strength and is clearly the worst starter after Long and the 9.
  24. alincoln replied to Napoleon's topic in Futbol
The sad thing is that a real manager could come in and clean this shit up in about 10 minutes simply by dropping Gregg’s idiotic system which doesn’t cater to the strengths of the player pool. 4-2-3-1 with Ream at LCB would give us a chance.
