Equal pay or not in the US, in order to work your way through the system to become an elite player, you generally need to come from lots and lots and lots of money. I know. I worked the club scene. I can pretty much guarantee you that the vast majority of women that play for the US National Team spent tens of thousands of dollars in club fees, travel, extra coaching, etc.. throughout their youth to get where they are today. There aren't too many underprivileged women soccer players in this country. The few that can claim this status were, perhaps, lucky enough to be in an area that identified talent and worked to offset the cost to play. So, let's not pretend that the game today was on anywhere near equal footing when the US was scoring and prancing around after goals 9, 10, 11, etc..
The advent of the ECNL following our drubbings in the 2003 and 2007 world cups dramatically changed girls club soccer in the U.S. and has created unprecedented depth in terms of the quality of the player pool. Any college coach will tell you that the talent and skill level in elite girls soccer in the US is night and day from 10 years ago. ECNL club fees and travel expenses are certainly pricey, but many girls from average middle class backgrounds play for ECNL clubs. That's just a fact. In addition, if your daughter is a superstar but you need financial assistance, the ECNL clubs will provide that assistance. There isn't enough money in soccer in the U.S. to invert the pyramid, particularly in the women's game, and many lower income communities place less emphasis on girls sports than boys sports. It's so easy to complain about the pyramid, but the only real solutions are economic and those resources simply aren't available at this time.
Unsurprisingly, the USSF is in the process of trying to fuck up elite girls soccer in the US by implementing a new Girls Development Academy system that is intended to replace the ECNL (which is run by US Club Soccer) as the top level of girls club soccer in the US. Interestingly, many of the elite clubs that moved to DA from ECNL identified the incompetence of the USSF and have moved back to ECNL. Make no mistake, the USSF is the biggest impediment to the continued development of soccer in the US.

You give them one way bus tickets to other cities. You just have to provide more tickets than all of the other cities that are doing the same thing.

Not going to go CR but on the politics of this US Women's squad:
The USSF is a fucking clown show right now. Our men's team is an embarrassment. I can't say I like some of the attitudes or drama that our women are adding to the situation, because at the end of the day it's the world cup and you go play for your country - especially a country where we are ALL about just as privileged as any other in the world - but I also understand this is kind of their only platform and the only women's soccer event that ever garners attention.
When it comes to the game on the pitch these are a bunch of badasses and they always have been. We are looking for our 4th World Cup (only Germany has multiple wins with 2) and to go back to back. They are our best ambassadors for the game of soccer that the United States exports and have been for 20 years.
I understand that some can't separate the politics from the sport but I'm going to cheer for them regardless. I hope we win every game by 5 goals even if controversy and political drama continue to be drummed up the way they have been. If the media wants to take it and run with it and blow things out of proportion like they always do that's fine - it's not going to change my allegiance or interest in watching us play (and hopefully win) every game.
Anyway - in case anyone wanted my 2 cents on things.
Let's go kick some ass, ladies.

All I have learned from this thread is that Lobo should not be allowed to purchase firearms.

Maybe they will pull it off, but there is no reason for this show to continue other than $$$

It's an excuse to be racist. Point to some stupid college kids, and use it as license to be as racist, sexist, and xenophobic as you want. The same people who are gleeful on here about this $ 11 million verdict, are absolutely silent about the Pulse nightclub shooting, shooting up synagogues and mosques, the huge rise in hate crimes since trump became president, locking up brown children, the Muslim ban, etc. But, hey, some 19-year-old libtards did something dumb, so I can be as un-PC (read: racist) as I want. And hey, you libtards who don't like the president saying there were good Nazis, well you're just hysterical, like these 19-year-old college students who are clearly representative of everyone who's not a trump kool-aid drinker in the country.
Well, you are clearly hysterical. Not sure of the reason though.

Rory is definitely the player to pick on a receptive course. 17 rounds of 64 or better this week at the Canadian and three of 61 or better.

It's ridiculous that the US and France will likely meet in the quarterfinals.

Austin is unsurprisingly embracing the west coast model for addressing homelessness and should expect similar results. It's only a matter of time until human feces and used needles become part of the Austin experience.
-
Austin's homeless problem will be virtually indistinguishable from that of the west coast cities within five years.

Amazing that even when their team is great all they can think about is Michigan
There is a 380 page thread on this website regarding Texas A&M. The Buckeye fans are here to laugh at Michigan and you specifically.

You can obtain passable BBQ outside of Texas. The brisket doesn't measure up, but passable bbq is available. Tex-Mex, on the other hand, is almost universally awful outside of Texas.

Their arrogance, stupidity, greed and dictatorial impulses are shocking to behold. Rather than try to help US Club Soccer (which operates under the web of the USSF) continue to improve and expand the reach of and access to the ECNL, their immediate instinct is to instead replace it with a less accessible alternative that is completely under the control of the out of touch USSF. As evidence of the USSF's pettiness, the U-15 national team from 2018 only included one girl from ECNL teams despite MANY of the top clubs and players in the country not playing in DA.
