  1. "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." ---H.L. Mencken
  2. Generally speaking, I think too much is made of mission statements. But that being said.... I suspect the old "deter war" was a residual of MAD and the end of the cold war. And was sort of an intent to the "meanest son of a bitch in the valley" that no one would fuck with. I think the new statement is more of a recognition of new types of warfare, such as cyber and possibly other non-Army/Navy/Airforce types. I suspect "lethal" was a more generic version of "military". "Sustain American influence abroad" sounds like mealy mouthed stuff a committee would want.
  3. Its the pictures of Hillary in Yoga Pants that are the most damning.
  4. No one should be surprised by the decision. As it has been pointed out, the Executive Branch has well established powers in this area, and while POTUS made stupid remarks in the campaign, the text of the Order was race neutral. But IIRC, the purpose of the ban was for 90 days to put a better vetting system in place. I would seem they've had enough time to make the "travel ban" moot.
  5. I was a HS Freshman in Wichita Falls. WFHS was in the playoffs and had a game against Abilene Cooper that Saturday PM, in Lubbock, I think. My Dad and I traveled to that game with a friend and his dad. Listened to the Tex-Ark on the radio on the way. We were gloomy when we got to the stadium. We were there early and they played the radio broadcast of Tex-Ark on the PA system. Crowd went nuts when Texas won. Then my HS beat Cooper, and went on to win State. That was a good year for football!
  6. This mean they are doubling down on cold fusion?
  7. Back in the mid seventies, I remember driving from Austin to Dallas for the OU game. Arkansas was playing Baylor that same Saturday, and I-35 had a lot of Piggies headed south. Southbound side had swarms of highway patrol pulling over Arky fans, didn't see a single one on the northbound side. Back then teams were limited to 2 TV appearances (maybe a third regional). I had seats on the second from the top row of the west upper deck (it was the only upper deck at the time). The Goodyear blimp was there and during the game, it made a low pass right down the field. I swear the gondola was lower than I was. I also heard stories from the 60s that during the weekend of the game, that there were gas stations in Arkansas that would sell to Texas cars. Any way, back then they were a bigger rival than aggy, but not like OU. I would rather have an annual game with them than aggy. As to why they left, I think all the cheating and backstabbing in the old SWC during the 80s, along with being the only non-Texas school were part of it.
  8. Regarding the OP, Don't know about other areas, but here (Conroe ISD) , school buildings are often rented after school hours by groups such as a church for meetings. So unless the security is being done for these events, a killer could sneak his weapon onto the campus and into his locker on Sunday and then go on his killing spree on Monday.
  9. DDCE Org chart Jan 2018 I count 44 names (could be slightly off on the exact count) on the chart which notes that "Staff positions shown are at the director level and above". I assume a "Director" would have direct reports, but some of the listings don't look like they are full time DDCE, but liaisons other departments (ie. IT, Business/Finance, and HR)
  10. I hear Laurel. On the NYT tool as it goes to the Yanny side, I first hear Yammi and only at the next to last tick mark do it hear Yanny
  11. Not sure I understand: Wiki Passed the House on July 11, 2006 (317-93 Roll call vote 363, via Clerk.House.gov) Passed the Senate on September 14, 2006 (98-0 Roll call vote 249, via Senate.gov, in lieu of H.R. 4954)

    Iran

Was originally against the deal, as it was heavily front-loaded with Iran benefits. But they are a sunk cost and the idea of "snap back" sanctions are and forever will be a joke, we are better off staying in. As to the lawsuit, I doubt the victim's families will ever see a dime
  13. Your right, it was Rice Stadium or the Astrodome he wanted it moved to.
  14. UH started SWC play in 1976, and the conference broke up in 1996, and during those 20 years they won 7 times, so no they weren't a true rival. But they did win the SWC in their first year. Their best success was using the run and shoot, which was new, novel, and people didn't know how to defend it. Also about that time, the had a big cheating scandal. They hired a law firm to investigate what was really going on prove they were honest. They fired that firm announcing nothing had been found. A few weeks later, the NCAA put them on probation. They blamed Texas for turning them in (as opposed to admitting they cheated). After the SWC broke up, their program had terrible facilities and support. They wanted to bring Football back to campus and want to play Texas in their old tinker toy stadium. Dodd$ wanted to play it at Reliant Stadium, but they insisted and built some bleachers to add capacity. Couple days before the game, and inspector condemned those bleachers . They refused to refund those tickets, rather allowed those ticket holders to watch a closed circuit broadcast. Now they have hired a rape accessory for their football staff, and want to swing their dicks like they are big boys. Well....fuck them.
  15. In the absence of something extraordinary, I think Trump is primaried and loses in 2020. At which point he makes wild claims about the election being rigged, cheating Dems, etc. Among the extraordinary things that could happen. NK peacefully rejoins SK in a SK style government. With that he could ride to re-election. Not likely to happen, but I was shocked when the Berlin wall fell. Dems take control of the House/Senate in 2018, and they certainly impeach him and may very well convict. (If so, I kinda agree with Fondren that he will have to be taken from the White House by force.) But if they try to kill him, they better get him. If they start it and don't remove him, 2020 will be very ugly, but he may very well win. But I see nothing in Trump that has him resigning, or choosing not to run. People who think that are likely the same delusional ones who thought he would drop out before the 2016 convention or election.
  16. Perhaps not, but how does that explain why Pelosi and Reid never got one passed. The real answer is that neither side is willing to budge. This requires compromise and neither side is willing to do it. And putting it entirely on one side is partisan horseshit.
  17. Agreed, but our constitutional process is built around a broad consensus to do something. And for quite a while now, it seems like both sides are infested with extremists who, rather than compromise and get something better, would rather get nothing just to blame the other side. (See wildcat09's post)
  18. I don't think we should or will deport many of these "dreamers". That being said there is a good argument that whatever we do should be the result of congressional action, rather than executive.
  19. Onward Together, Hilda's dark money organization: Made it hard to stop donating to it once you started Is charging the DNC and DCCC over $2 million to rent her email list.
  20. Won't know for a long time whether Trump's antics helped or hurt here, but SK allowing NK to compete at the Olympics with them was a brilliant move. I thought at the time that if you get a few Norks who had never been out of NK in their lives (like Kim's sister), they would have a Yeltsin in the Clear Lake Grocery Store Moment.
  21. Slick spread rumor that the NY Times made a secret deal with Trump to keep Hilda from being Pres.
  22. They actually called me on that poll. On my cell. First time they called I didn't answer. (Who the fuck would call me from Connecticut?) But they left a message. Second time they called I was not a good time. Third time was a charm, so I answered.
