  1. Mayor is speaking out. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/phoenix-breaking/2019/06/15/phoenix-mayor-issues-statement-viral-video-police-officers-point-gun-yell-threats-dravon-ames-family/1469624001/
  2. 13 years yesterday. But I had to get rid of my futon. We eventually replaced it with an Ikea pullout couch that we keep a mattress topper for. So...I win?
  3. Spoke too soon...power just went out here again. It was a nice couple hours.
  4. You can find futons with inner springs that are pretty comfy. If you keep a mattress topper stored away for guests, it works well.
  5. Power came back a couple hours ago. Everything in the freezer is still good. Funny thing about the generator comments...I ran into a neighbor at dinner tonight. He was joking about how he bought a generator 6 years ago after the ice-pocalypse in Dallas. This was the first time he's gotten to use it. I don't think it's something I can justify keeping around.
  6. Still no power here in Richardson. Oncor can't give an estimate on power restoration at this time, so we're just crossing our fingers. I only opened my freezer once to stick a probe thermometer in and it's still under 30F after 30 hours offline. Hopefully things come back online before we have to start emptying it.
  7. North Dallas was crazy this afternoon. I was on the road and had to stop because I couldn't see past my own bumper. I've been through a tornado and this was the strongest storm I've ever send besides that. Diving around Belt Line, Arapaho and Campbell afterwards there are trees down everywhere, lots of spots where trees are blocking 2 or 3 lanes on those major roads. My parents reported asphalt buckling on Arapaho. Lots of fences down, car ports trashed, at least one garage I saw lost a roof and another had it's garage door blown in. Fretz Park Library had it's windows blown in. It's supposed to be another 24 hours or so before we get power back. Thankfully, I have family staying with me!
  8. One other trick...if you're painting where the wall meets the ceiling, you can tape like you normally would but first paint along the tape with the CEILING color. After that dries you can paint the wall. That wall the ceiling color bleeds through onto the ceiling, but the wall color doesn't. Of course this only works if you have both colors on hand.
  9. I'm also looking to sell some gear. Does anyone know a good site (besides Craigslist) to sell homebrew stuff in DFW?
  10. Just found this thread...here's the coop I built about 5 years ago. And a shot of our 3 new chicks in the brooder. There's an Orpington, a Rhode Island Red and a Barnevelder in there that will join our Easter Eggers soon. We've probably had 10 or 12 birds over the years, but my 2 Easter Eggers have been with us all 5 years. Still solid layers too. That food bucket in the first pic has a neck added on the side. Probably the best thing I ever did. Pretty much eliminated all food waste. Highly recommend.
  11. You know, thinking it over, the way Cersei executed Missandei made no sense. There's no way Cersei expected Dany to surrender because she threatened one servant. Cersei's real motivation would have been to provoke an attack from the Unsullied and make Dany look like a ruthless conqueror. It would have felt much truer to have Qyburn torture the shit out of Missandei on that wall, just slowly spill her guts while she screamed in agony. They could really drag it out until Grey Worm can't take it and charges the wall solo, taking arrows from the archers. Then as he's going down, he hurls a spear to put Missandei out of her misery, only to have The Mountain step forward to snatch it out of the air. Grey Worm dies in front of the gates listening to Missandei scream. That shit would have created some tension for next week.
  12. That's so odd to me. Did your family eat cheese while you were growing up? What about milk, yogurt and sour cream?
  13. Did anyone else notice Sansa's speech down in the crypt about "the most heroic thing we can do now" is get out of the way? Wonder if that's foreshadowing that she'll cede The North to Dany (or someone) because she realizes she shouldn't be a military leader.
  14. I appreciate that you claim this as your opinion, but I don't think your opinion aligns with federal law. The law is that someone may be granted asylum because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion. If someone is in Honduras and government has broken down to the point that gangs run cities and states and these gangs threaten anyone who refused an "invitation" to join or who advocates for government control, I think it would clearly meet the definition. Isn't ISIS just a really well organized gang that has toppled local governments? How do you distinguish between a gang that is capable of persecution and one that is not?
  15. Sorry, but this just isn't true. Do you not remember the Dems coming back over and over to try and get a deal on DACA? That was a good faith effort on their part. And it was torpedoed by Trump.
  16. I think the better approach would be to text people and ask them to call in and take a poll.
  17. 7 AM at the polling location by North Park in Dallas. Line out the door.
  18. WFAA should also be streaming on their site
  19. So now that the Kavanaugh vote is delayed...we can haz debate?
  20. Everybody loves to complain about the band director. Back in '99 everyone complained about Sedatole when he came in to replace Crider. A few years later the kids who leaned under Sedatole couldn't stand Carnochan. Now you're complaining about Hanna and longing for Carnochan. Funny thing is that Hanna has been around over 20 years, going back to time as a grad assistant under Crider. It's not like he just showed up and started screwing with traditions. Regarding all the complaints about The Eyes, I remember from my time in LHB/LHAB learning that the song had always been played fast under DiNino because that's the way DKR liked it. It got gradually slower over the years, but whenever DiNino would conduct, he'd push the tempo. Getting back to the DKR-era tempo has been in the works for years.
  21. The weather forecast probably had a lot to do with keeping people away. They were saying 90% chance of thunderstorms all week. We were surprised to wake up Saturday and see it had dropped to 0%.
  22. I used to use this guy around Addison when I lived in Carrollton. Really liked him. http://timsautoservices.com
  23. Good to know. I thought about trying to watch on a laptop, but was too lazy. I may give it another shot next football season.
