  1. You know, thinking it over, the way Cersei executed Missandei made no sense. There's no way Cersei expected Dany to surrender because she threatened one servant. Cersei's real motivation would have been to provoke an attack from the Unsullied and make Dany look like a ruthless conqueror. It would have felt much truer to have Qyburn torture the shit out of Missandei on that wall, just slowly spill her guts while she screamed in agony. They could really drag it out until Grey Worm can't take it and charges the wall solo, taking arrows from the archers. Then as he's going down, he hurls a spear to put Missandei out of her misery, only to have The Mountain step forward to snatch it out of the air. Grey Worm dies in front of the gates listening to Missandei scream. That shit would have created some tension for next week.
  2. That's so odd to me. Did your family eat cheese while you were growing up? What about milk, yogurt and sour cream?
  3. Did anyone else notice Sansa's speech down in the crypt about "the most heroic thing we can do now" is get out of the way? Wonder if that's foreshadowing that she'll cede The North to Dany (or someone) because she realizes she shouldn't be a military leader.
  4. I appreciate that you claim this as your opinion, but I don't think your opinion aligns with federal law. The law is that someone may be granted asylum because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion. If someone is in Honduras and government has broken down to the point that gangs run cities and states and these gangs threaten anyone who refused an "invitation" to join or who advocates for government control, I think it would clearly meet the definition. Isn't ISIS just a really well organized gang that has toppled local governments? How do you distinguish between a gang that is capable of persecution and one that is not?
  5. Sorry, but this just isn't true. Do you not remember the Dems coming back over and over to try and get a deal on DACA? That was a good faith effort on their part. And it was torpedoed by Trump.
  6. I think the better approach would be to text people and ask them to call in and take a poll.
  7. 7 AM at the polling location by North Park in Dallas. Line out the door.
  8. WFAA should also be streaming on their site
  9. So now that the Kavanaugh vote is delayed...we can haz debate?
  10. Everybody loves to complain about the band director. Back in '99 everyone complained about Sedatole when he came in to replace Crider. A few years later the kids who leaned under Sedatole couldn't stand Carnochan. Now you're complaining about Hanna and longing for Carnochan. Funny thing is that Hanna has been around over 20 years, going back to time as a grad assistant under Crider. It's not like he just showed up and started screwing with traditions. Regarding all the complaints about The Eyes, I remember from my time in LHB/LHAB learning that the song had always been played fast under DiNino because that's the way DKR liked it. It got gradually slower over the years, but whenever DiNino would conduct, he'd push the tempo. Getting back to the DKR-era tempo has been in the works for years.
  11. The weather forecast probably had a lot to do with keeping people away. They were saying 90% chance of thunderstorms all week. We were surprised to wake up Saturday and see it had dropped to 0%.
  12. I used to use this guy around Addison when I lived in Carrollton. Really liked him. http://timsautoservices.com
  13. Good to know. I thought about trying to watch on a laptop, but was too lazy. I may give it another shot next football season.
  14. I tried Direct TV Now this past weekend to watch the Tulsa game and it was really disappointing (beyond the product on the field). I had the game recorded and was several minutes behind live TV. When I would fast forward, it wouldn't show how close to live TV I was getting and it would show the game as it was fast forwarding. It would also take forever to buffer and restart the game when I would fast forward. Literally fast forward 15 seconds and then wait 30 seconds for it to start playing again. Also didn't seem to have an obvious way to switch over to the live game. I tried once and when I came back to the DVR, it restarted from the beginning. Better yet it screwed up and said there were -586337842 hours remaining in the recording, so trying to find my spot was impossible. Is this just the suck you get with a cloud based DVR? I was watching on a Fire Stick, so maybe some of this is just a limitation of that interface. Regardless, it was awful and I'm cancelling before my 7 day trial is up.
  15. I got out Whataburgered this morning. Saw three of these posted along Belt Line in Richardson.
  16. Here's a good example: https://mashable.com/2018/08/25/kneeling-national-anthem-beto-orourke/#Lh3HSNGUvsqc We can't know for sure if the bad headline was intentional or just lazy.
  17. https://www.wnycstudios.org/story/some-immigrants-seeking-legal-residency-through-marriage-targeted-detention-aclu-alleges https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/judge-to-consider-lawsuit-challenging-immigrant-arrests/2018/08/20/9130fe0c-a486-11e8-ad6f-080770dcddc2_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.b1f408779b83 I heard this story on the radio today. For those that don't care to read/listen, the gist of it is: Non-citizen has been married to a citizen for several years, they have a couple kids They apply for legal residency status based on the marriage Government says it's a legitimate marriage and they're moving the application forward In the meantime, ICE is trying to deport the non-citizen spouse According to the lawsuit, 2016 DHS regulations are intended to allow illegal aliens to seek legal status based on marriage It get stickier because the lawsuit claims the government used the marriage interview as a trap for ICE to detain the non-citizen It's hard to see what purpose the goverment's actions are trying to serve, beyond scaring people away from marrying immigrants. This isn't a public safety concern, it's not a "public charge" concern. It just seems anti-immigrant.
  18. Saw this a week or so ago. If you're thinking of taking kids, here's what you're in for: 1. Some language, fuck, shit, pussy 2. 13 year old girl learning how to give BJ's; looking up YouTube vids with a bunch of dildos and practicing on fruit 3. 17 year old attempting to sexually assault a 13 year old; nothing physical but creepy as hell Could create a good opportunity to discuss heavy shit with your kid, but could also be awkward for a lot of people.
  19. My 3 year old son has been into Voltron, Avatar: The Last Airbender and (I'm gonna regret this) My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I find all of these tolerable to have on in my house.

  21. At least in the Dallas area, motorcycles are allowed in the hov lane. I think most places are the same. https://www.txdot.gov/driver/hov-lanes/high-occupancy-vehicle-lanes.html So you're not blind, just ignorant.
  22. I couldn't decide which thread to put this in, but this seems like the right spot. My wife has been asking for help learning to use the smoker. So, Memorial Day I walked her though firing up the WSM and she did 3 whole chickens plus another 8 or so leg quarters. They turned out great. For my part, I harvested the skin from the smoked birds, sliced it up and fried it into homemade chicken-bacon. It'll probably end up in some breakfast tacos or on a pizza. I've never seen store-bought...but I assume mine is better. I also turned the drippings into gravy for some shrimp and biscuits the next day and, of course, roasted all the bones so we can make stock.
