  1. Not exactly. But I do expect decent people to feel sympathy for millions of innocents trying to survive an onslaught in Gaza (and, likely soon, the West Bank). I know this thread has moved quickly, but this discussion started when a few of our resident assholes cheered on the coming slaughter in Gaza as if it were some sort of karmic justice for the poor choices of Muslims in Michigan. Then said assholes doubled down on it. We can debate whether American Muslims who declined to vote for Kamala deserve what’s coming. I personally believe their decision presented a unique moral conundrum. But are you really going to defend Brisket and 956 as they celebrate the massacre of innocent non-Americans who had literally no choice to make?
  2. I agree with that. In the case of my friends, they just didn’t vote or voted third party. They were well aware of the danger. They just couldn’t bring themselves to affirmatively support a candidate who, in their estimation, had blood on her hands. It was a fucked up trolley problem, for sure.
  3. But she WAS the party’s candidate for President. And the party declined a request by Palestinian advocates to speak at the DNC, but allowed pro-Israel speakers (which, by the way, leaders of the Uncommitted movement supported). From my conversations with Muslim friends, merely allowing a Palestinian voice to speak briefly at the convention would have gone a looooong way. It was about showing a path forward and hope. The party fucked that up as badly as it possibly could have, which is a high bar for our lovable blue losers.
  4. I would rather us not lump divergent groups together. Muslim Americans were placed in a unique moral quandary, far different than, say, Latinos for Trump or pro-life women or just random selfish MAGA assholes who are just now learning that they are the welfare queens they always complained about. Those latter groups are selfish idiots eager to fall for Trump’s lies and willing to see others suffer. Nothing the Dems could say would have swayed those assholes and they deserve whatever pain they get. But the Dems could have taken fairly small, harmless steps to at least show some good faith to Muslims and earn their votes. And it would have been the right fucking thing to do, you know, to at least show a modicum of sympathy and concern for innocent victims of industrialized slaughter: The party chose not to. From where I sit as a heartbroken Democrat, the party fucked around and we all found out. We have no one to blame but ourselves. And I won’t take any solace whatsoever that desperate people who saw no good option end up suffering.
  5. This thread is more disheartening than last Tuesday’s results. I’ve been a cynical misanthrope for a long time. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that, even still, I had somehow managed to overestimate the good in mankind. Thanks for the wake-up call, you fucking maniacs.
  6. Good. We’re gonna need a lot of drugs to get through this shit.
  7. Right. That’s my point. Fascist policies have a way of hurting both good and bad people. It’s fun to see shitheads get their comeuppance. But that comes with a terrible price. I guess the solution is to enjoy the schadenfreude while committing to help those who don’t deserve what’s coming.
  8. See that’s the problem. Karma is a blunt instrument.
  9. Anyone have insight into international options like McGill, Univ of Toronto, or UK schools?
  10. It’s not a “we” problem. It’s a few habitual dipshits: Anastasis with his off-topic diversionary bullshit; Brisket with his signature histrionic “If I can’t have the perfect world, then everyone should die horribly” tantrums; and 956 with his usual racist sadism. The rest of us grasp the concepts of karmic justice and schadenfreude just fine.
  11. Oh, I have no problem with schadenfreude or karma. The only thing keeping me sane this past week has been the Leopards Eating Faces subreddit. I’m all for seeing those who selfishly chose fascism suffer the consequences they thought would only fall on others. But what a select few maniacs on this board advocate is not schadenfreude; it’s bloodlust, directed at innocent victims who never had a choice to make. I like to believe we’re above that, and I do believe most of us are. We’re angry, sad, and afraid, sure. But that doesn’t mean we should follow the emotionally fragile crybabies among us down the path to inhumanity.
  12. Since when is “effective” the goal? You do what’s right because it’s right. Brisket is acting like a puerile psychopath. We should hold ourselves to a higher moral standard than gleefully cheering on genocide because a few voters made a bad choice. Especially when the victims literally had no part in the voting at all. I mean, for fuck’s sake. Stand back and think for a fucking second about the position Brisket and the other butthurt buffoons are advocating here. It’s monstrous. They’re not merely hoping the Michigan voters get deported or hassled or suffer some other comeuppance at the hands of the fascists they helped gain power. They’re literally cheering on the mass murder of innocent human beings half a world away. If you don’t find that way over the red fucking line of morality, then something inside of you has broken and you need to look in the mirror. Edit: Not you, specifically. The editorial “you.”
  13. Gaze upon the Reaganist bullshit we let infiltrate the Democratic Party, folks. Muslim Americans on the margins aren’t the problem. We lost because we catered to the @Brisketexans of the world. They may have changed the color of their ties and started voting for Dems, but they remain the same soulless sociopaths they were back when they were jerking off to the Laffer Curve and singing along to Tony Keith during Desert Storm. America deserves better from its liberal party than childish pricks cheering on the slaughter of innocent women and children.
  14. Gazans don’t vote in US elections, you dumb fucksticks.
  15. Hahahahahahaha. OU sucks.
  16. “The ruling on the field is the runner failed to reach the line to gain.” Yeah. No shit.
  17. That was a great goal but how was that not a foul in the lead up?
  18. Yeah. We noticed.
  19. Well ztejas sure shot his way to the top of the Stupidest Surly Posters rankings in a hurry.
  20. Does anyone else have the nagging suspicion that this isn’t a direct quote from the official party platform?
  21. I said this repeatedly during and after the convention. The working class that flocked to MAGA hates neoconservativism and RINOs. And our solution to court them back was “Hey, what if we told you the neoconservatives are with us now?” Bernie or Warren would have been a better candidate. But then they would have turned off all the center-right converts who are now core to the Democratic base. And we can’t have that! Turns out relying on old guard Republican refugees hitched to losing ideologies isn’t a winning strategy. If you’re truly the left wing alternative to fascism, how about offering real solutions for the working class and maybe taking a stand against fascist genocide? But to be honest, the goose is cooked at this point. Trump voters aren’t reluctant and they aren’t rational. It’s a cult full of angry dipshits voting to burn the world down. No amount of best interest policies are going to dissuade the moron mob.
  22. What are we supposed to fucking do? Become Nazi Lite? At a certain point you have to stand for decency and reason. The Dems’ demise (and the country’s) originated in decisions made decades ago to shift right and abandon the working class. At this point those people are lost. But it doesn’t benefit anyone for the Dems to shift to the right again. But this is all moot. We’re just rearranging deck chairs. Votes and platforms and appeal to voters and shit are all irrelevant going forward. Welcome to the single party US.
  23. Maybe just scrub the entire CR.
