  1. Yep. I don’t see how this is any worse than the video of Ted Cruz’s kid recoiling in abject disgust at his presence. Or the one of Ted Cruz’s father recoiling in abject disgust at Ted’s presence. Or the one of Ted Cruz’s wife recoiling in abject disgust at Ted’s presence.
  2. Wait. This lady claims that Matt Gaetz stalked her kid and her evidence is a court order dismissing her stalking claim because it was not supported by the evidence? And the same lady is the source for the Gaetz affair rumors? Am I getting that right? Because, if so, this seems like a bunch of bullshit.
  3. …and they were making kitties and I saw one of the kitties and then the kitty looked at me.
  4. You have it backwards. The more frequently Americans exercise their Second Amendment rights, the better. 100 shootings a day is 100 beautiful daily episodes of freedom and liberty. The only problem is that, admittedly, mass shootings all seem to be done by Bad Guys With Guns. We need to fix that and the solution damned sure isn’t fewer shootings. What America needs is to double the number of daily shootings, by arming Good Guys With Guns and encouraging them to shoot back. Or maybe even have the Good Guys go on the offensive, identifying and preemptively shooting Bad Guys. Can you imagine how amazingly free and safe our society would be if Americans could determine for themselves who deserves to be shot and then do so without interference from Big Government?
  5. Remember when all of us who realized Covid could kill us died from Covid? Dilbert guy remembers.
  6. As I said, these “OMG rIoTS!!1!1’” threads inevitably confirm my worldview. The rage of rightwing morons is inflamed by property crimes and affronts to authority, yet they remain apathetic about mass murder. These discussions always reveal so much about fascists, what they believe, and why they suck
  7. So a cop car got burned and some windows were smashed. Where’s your thread about the mass shooting that killed 10 people last night?
  8. To the contrary, the discussion of these topics by morons inevitably confirms my worldview.
  9. True. It seems like this kind of thread is always started by one of the resident idiots.
  10. Kaling has the ability to write very funny material when she’s writing for interesting characters. She wrote some classic episodes of The Office, including “The Dundies.” But since then, she has written mainly for an uninteresting, annoying protagonist (herself), resulting in works of off-putting solipsism.

    Jeff Beck RIP

One follow up: Jimmy Page cribbed the first five notes of that Beck intro lick (transposed from G down to C) for “Since I’ve Been Loving You.”

    Jeff Beck RIP

In that Beato video posted above, Eric Johnson said this is the first song he ever learned on guitar (maybe first solo - can’t imaging a true beginner jumping into this): It’s a good example of Jeff Beck playing unorthodox phrases that are entirely unique but somehow also fit the music. Beck was the Yardbirds’ best lead guitarist and that’s high praise considering the other two guys who filled that role.

    Jeff Beck RIP

Beck wasn’t a riff-writer. At least if he was, he apparently wasn’t any good at it. Beck’s strength is in soloing and extracting unique sounds from the guitar. I think guitarists appreciate him for stretching the bounds of rock guitar into strange new frontiers and showing what can be done when you break away from cliche blues licks in pentatonic minor. Beck played scales and phrases that most rock guitarists never thought to try. But it turns out most rock fans like rock, not jazz. And rock is simple music.

    Jeff Beck RIP

Those Beck solos at approx. 1:10 and 2:05. RIP.
  15. Yardbirds, when they brought in Bonham, Jones, and Plant.
  16. Phantom of the Opera, Transylvania, Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Iron Maiden, just to name a few examples. I’m talking about that trademark Maiden combo of a thundering bass line and harmonizing guitars, with melodic fills and memorable solos. I mean, if you’re looking for a Bruce era song that excels on musicality, Number of the Beast is the wrong album. There are some killer tunes on Peace of Mind and Powerslave.
  17. Dickinson era is fine and there are some gems on this albums, but he brings an over-the-top corniness that detracts from the music. The first two albums have a sharper edge to them and a heavier emphasis on musicality.
  18. Agreed. I fucking love the commercially successful Metallica stuff. It’s right up there in the pantheon of awesome with pumpkin spice lattes, vodka sodas, and that “what if the Ghostbusters were girls?” reboot.
  19. That kid is a true American pastry-ot. His motto is “Don’t tread on mill.” His blood runs red, white, and Blue Bell. He’s the Fatue of Liberty. He exercised his right to bear claws.
  20. Also the guy at the vigil is way blurrier than the suspect.
