I feel this should be a new thread. The Gundy era is over so fresh start. I think this is a cool story. I was on a family roadtrip and listening to the radio broadcast and they kept talking about a “section of shirtless men.” Two years into horribleness, attendance cratering, and the fans who showed up found a way to have some fun. I’m proud of the OKST fanbase right now. https://tulsaworld.com/sports/college/osu/article_f14a30f6-cf22-4986-96a2-89800912047f.html#tracking-source=home-top-stor How a simple $10 bet started OSU's shirtless party in Section 231 of Boone Pickens Stadium STILLWATER — The best challenges can come between a brother and a sister. When the first words are “I dare you …” you usually prepare for the next words to be eyebrow-raising. Trent Eaton, 40, and Callista Bradford, 32, are adults. They are old enough where simple words are no longer goading enough. Shortly after halftime of Oklahoma State’s lopsided loss to Houston on Saturday, Bradford noticed Boone Pickens Stadium emptying out. While sitting in Section 1 (located in the southeast corner), Bradford pointed to an empty area in section 231 (on the northwest corner) above the OSU student seating. “I will bet you $10 to go over there and wave your shirt in the air,” Bradford said to her brother, not knowing if he would take his shirt off to do so. Oklahoma State fan Trent Eaton, right, started a shirt-waving crowd frenzy in Section 231 following a bet from his sister Callista Bradford. Eaton, an Oklahoma City-area banker, wasted no time saying “OK.” This is the part where you think the older brother may have indulged in a few adult beverages during the day. But he says he was “stone-cold sober.” No liquid courage was needed. Eaton was going to take his shirt off and wave it around like a crazy man. “She’ll dare me to do stuff,” Eaton told the Tulsa World. “But she doesn’t even really have to dare me. We’ll go on vacation with my wife and I’ll go up to random people and talk to them or dance like someone who can’t dance well. They’ll either laugh at me or with me. “For the most part, I’ll never see them again.” Bradford’s group of friends at the game, including Eaton’s son Brodey and his girlfriend Mariany Suarez, watched him make the solo walk around the stadium. It’s easy to smile when thinking what was going through Brodey’s mind at this point. He had just introduced his girlfriend to his father and you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. The Bradford group laughed when Eaton reached the upper levels of Section 231 and playfully acted like he was a lost fan looking for his specific seat in the empty area. Then he took his shirt off and started waving it around. “I’m not worried about taking my shirt off and waving it,” Eaton said. “Initially I was going to wave it a couple of times. Then a guy showed up and he asked very politely ‘Can I join you?’ I said sure and then some more people showed up.” Eaton’s actions sparked a storm. For two minutes, it was just his new friend and him, shirtless. But then the numbers doubled. And doubled again. Fans were seen racing up the stands to join the fun. Forget the scoreboard (Houston was leading 30-10 at this point) of the uncompetitive game. Attention was drawn to the northwest corner of the stadium. Eaton was OSU’s Pied Piper this afternoon. The shirtless fans soon easily numbered more than 1,000. “We were all laughing so hard,” Bradford said. “My friends were saying ‘look at what you started.’ and I said ‘That’s my brother!’” There was a high-school aged boy sitting in front of them who wanted to join the fray. Bradford said the mom said “No, that’s getting too wild over there.” Many thought the entire group was college kids. Nope. Eaton is 40 and said the ages of those taking part ranged from elementary-aged boys to men in their 70s. OSU’s videographers found them to display on the scoreboard. The TNT national broadcast slipped from game coverage multiple times to show the fans. It wasn’t just waving shirts. Across the field in an enclosed press box, reporters could hear the group cheering each play. It was loud. They were in solidarity. Eaton’s wife Michelle was at home and was immediately informed who started the madness. She posted the news on social media with the words “So Proud” in a fun, sarcastic way that only a spouse can get away with. Eaton had in-laws who were watching from the stadium suites who learned it was him. And his mother-in-law, driving to Tulsa for a Saturday dinner, noticed. She got in touch with others, including some who were at the game. “She texted her friends and said the first topic of dinner conversation would be ‘Trent’ and she gave a confused (emoji),” Eaton said. “Then she texted me and said ‘What did you do?’” Oklahoma State interim coach Doug Meacham and his players certainly noticed. During a tough afternoon on the field — heck, it’s been a disastrous season — it gave them reason to smile. “Shoot, that was awesome. Hey, guys, whoever you are, that was phenomenal. Our guys kind of felt it. That was something,” Meacham said. “You don’t see it very often with things not going the way you want them to. It’s just awesome. I appreciate our students hanging in there with us and giving us something to play for.” As the game clock wound down to zero, the group slowly dissipated. OSU would lose 39-17 to the Cougars, but there was joy in the stadium on Saturday. Eaton received high-fives from his sister’s stadium friends. Bradford was thanked for the original idea but she reminded everyone that it was “All Trent.” “People got enjoyment out of it,” Eaton said. “If it helps the team play a little better or they took something out of it to make their day better, that was the whole goal.” The day started when Bradford called her brother at the last minute and asked if he wanted to join her at the game. It ended with a new folk hero in Stillwater. And Eaton never got his $10. That’s fine, he added. He did it for free. This was a lifetime memory.

Funny how that works when you use more than the same 5 plays. A big frustration with Gundy is he seemed to stop innovating and was so predictable. Hence back to back pick 6s against Oregon. They were the exact same fucking play. Happy to see the offense play with life. Defense is too far behind, literally cannot stop anything.

I don’t care how, please beat these tools.

Bringing some class to ass-to-mouth.

I’m a fan. Enjoy it while it lasts though. That level of physicality at RB has maybe a 5 year shelf life. Hope he at least gets to a big second contract.

I'm so confused. They aren't fighting back and are in fact amplifying everything, anti-immigrant rhetoric in particular. The Texas National Guard is about to fucking invade Chicago FFS. Nobody is stopping them. The most hopeful moment of the last year was some stonefaced generals in a room and that hasn't manifested into anything.

I didn’t know those podcasts were multiple hours. I don’t think any of my regular podcasts are longer than an hour. I’ve been listening a lot to Conan O’Brian Needs a Friend and they are good interviews and pretty funny.

Yeah I’m gonna have to disagree with imma here too. They are succeeding at everything. Only people on the left who are losing elections are “pushing back” and that’s not really the right term because there’s nothing they can do but point out how bad it’s getting and just hope some faction on the right will emerge to say “enough.” I’d like to think that deploying one states national guard against another might be that tipping point but nope. It’s going to take something like military opening fire on a group of US citizens and slaughtering dozens of them during a peaceful protest on private land (notice all of the qualifications there) and even then I’m skeptical it makes a difference. The speaker of the house would be on the floor praising the president and military for putting down an insurrection. Notice they’re already using that word to refer to anyone left of center?

Government Shutdown 2025: This Time It’s Personal
'stache replied to Bozo_Casanova's topic in Cloak Room
What should be a winning message is that Rs can't govern and are responsible for moster defecits and multple shutdowns. In reality, the winning message is that trans people exist and Mexicans and war on Portland and Chicago. -
Yup, current iteration is the best since the 90's brand. Prefer the old one but the new one is good compared to what came in between.

To be clear I'm not saying that just anyone can step in and coach a paid and loaded roster and yeah prior blueblood down years proves that really bad coaching can mess up even with elite talent. I'm speaking purely in the context of the first coaching search at OSU since I was a student and the new landscape we need to navigate. I think collecting NIL commitments is way more important than who we hire. Considering its almost certainly going to be a G5 HC or P4 coordinator there is going to be risk either way and my concern is less about who that name is as how much we can raise.

Government Shutdown 2025: This Time It’s Personal

Yes I know, that's what fucking depresses me the most, and why I think our democracy is over. -
I've watched enough of Burr to think that the segment just didn't work. I've heard him do edgy stuff that never struck me as anywhere close to the bro shit that is out of control in the Roganshpere, etc. Still really disappointed in the Saudi stuff though.

Government Shutdown 2025: This Time It’s Personal

Here we go again. Dems are problematic becasue they focus on policy. You know, the things lawmakers are supposed to be focused on developing and implementing. I get the point, its just fucking depressing that our country is so full of stupid people that government policy is less important than soundbites and vilification of others. BTW, the dems are focused largely from what I can tell on pointing out that R's are in charge and this is their fault. Sometimes it gets followed up with the detail to combat the bullshit "they want healthcare for illegals." That latter soundbite works, because our country is fucking pathetic. Since republicans are going to dominate going forward I'm all for just dismantling the whole fucking thing. Let the states take back full control so the south can be it's pathetic self with it's marginal economies and let the west coast and northeast corridors dominate and keep their own tax money. And yes I also know that's not how it would work, -
I guess I didn't think it was confusing, money buys talent. Point is that McGuire didn't become an elite coach overnight, his players just got a lot better. That's not a knock on him or Tech, it's the new way forward, and I'm hoping my school can find a way to make it happen.
-
Tech is the model showing that money is more important than coaching. It's why I'm way more concerned with compiling NIL commitments before OSU hires a new coach. Saw a rumor yesterday that we have an up and coming billionaire who is good friends with Dana Holgorson and might throw his weight behind the roster if we hire him as HC. I'm not entirely thrilled with the idea of Holgy returning as HC but if it comes with a fully funded roster, I'm all for it, because that is what's more important. Let others do some of the HC heavy lifting like roster and locker room management and let him coach offense and bring in a good independent DC to do the same? I'd take that setup over the old model even if it was Saban or some other old legend (yes I know he's not in the running just making a point).

Looks like they’re moving to soccer stadiums. The Renagades appear to be going to Toyota Stadium. They’re probably still too big for this league but better than pro stadiums I guess. I expect they will clear the yard lines entirely for soccer game. Nothing looks worse than watching soccer played on football lines even if they’re faded.
-
I guess I don't really follow this drama, but isn't it a good thing if he got in shape, regardless of the fact it shouldn't have taken this long and that his motivation might have been financial? Take the win and hope it works out.
