  1. Definitely in because Gladiator, but the trailer looks like pretty much the exact plot of the original, and I'm afraid that might bother me throughout. I assume this time it's known that he's the grandson of Marcus Aurelius and is targeted because whoever took the throne hated him too? I guess that could be a pretty significant difference. Either way, like I said, I'm in.
  2. Syd studied at the Culinary Institute of America and I thought her catering business was successful foodwise just not businesswise (which might go to your point since CDC is as much a business role as a chef role as I understand it). She obviously has lots of friends in the high end culinary universe. Like any industry, "its more about who you know than what you know" surely plays a role here, but it seems to me that attending CIA is like going to Harvard, that alone stands out on a resume, and she's either worked with some of these other high end chefs, or built a reputation foodwise with her catering business. I think Richie and Tina's arcs are far more unrealistic. Tina was a bookkeeper (or whatever that job was) until her mid 40's, then took a job at The Beef (not unrealistic, it can't be that hard), and within a few years is cooking for a culinary genius looking to obtain a Michelin Star? Same with Richie and Fak, there is far more that goes into that type of perfectionist service than a few months (or a week) of formal training and being likeable (i.e. Fak, who started the series as a handyman). It would have been far more realistic for Carmy to keep The Beef running with its original staff (i.e., more than a side business stand) and to open his restaurant by hiring a fully trained staff of classically trained chefs if he really wanted a Michelin Star. In general, I can suspend belief for much of it, but I don't think Syd is that big off a stretch, at least not compared to the others in that kitchen.
  3. The most unrealistic scene in cinema history, that this bunch of homos (nttawwt) were heading to a whorehouse to bang women. Far more likely to head to the library for "The Best Little Glory Holes in Texas."
  4. It's not a serious proposal, but you are expressing an opinion that it would "absolutely be more entertaining and more popular" and I very strongly disagree. It would look stupid, would cause far more jump shots to be missed, and would make the product less interesting (defined by how many people care to watch which currently is at an all time high).
  5. Dunks on an eight foot goal would look dumb as shit and would make it even less interesting. Just an absurdly stupid idea. And like i said, would be impractical in any event because jump shots would start missing at a far higher clip making the product worse overall. The CC effect is huge, let it play out, see where it tops off, and then evaluate how to keep the momentum going.
  6. And Hilary was too close to Wall Street, ergo, both sides. Biden has never even inferred that he's anti-establishment, to the contrary, it's why he's managed to maintain solid support from the corporate class. He has, however, come out stronger some on populist causes. I think it's both that (1) he's genuinely evolved on some issues, and (2) he's willing to take populist positions on issues where the majority of voters will support, or where he'll gain some support without losing more. Marijuana is a good example. It wasn't that long ago that he was still solidly against legalization, but now is working to have it rescheduled off of Class 1. I don't know if he genuinely has changed his opinion or if he's reading the tea leaves within his own party, but it really doesn't matter to me, it's the right decision both socially and politically, so he's done it.
  7. I think it's an absurd idea and would not increase interest, at all, might even cause some to lose interest. Wouldn't it also cause nearly everyone to start missing jumpshots? That's a lifetime of muscle memory that you'd have to retrain. Of course I also think it's stupid that girls exclusively play softball instead of baseball.
  8. I'm not full nerd into this stuff, but I thought the whole premise of the Millennium Falcon was that it was an underdog of a ship like the protagonists themselves. Han Solo constantly bragging about it was part of the schtick consistent with his personality. I have no idea what the USS Defiant is, never watched that series, but I have no doubt its probably a better ship.
  9. Far fewer public appearances and a majority of the work being done by his very competent cabinet. Which is why this conversation is insane to me. Worst case scenario is that Biden dies or steps down and Kamala becomes president. Changing horse now just raises a whole new array of attacks. Like someone said above, nobody knows which direction would be best, and to me the default is you stick with what you have, especially if Kamala is the leader in the clubhouse for a replacement.
  10. I liked the season. I don't particularly care how fast a story moves, this season was obviously about character development and back stories. It does feel self-indulgent at times, especially the extended dialogues that go on forever and border on over the top art house films. And yeah, Richie being some beloved celebrity returning at Ever after spending a week there to train felt ridiculous. The fact that he's supposedly that good at it after a week of training also kind of undermines the difficulty of the job in my opinion. Finally, in Ice Chips
  11. You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. I'll get you a toe by this afternoon.
  12. They can join the Pac 12. Makes as much sense as Cal in the ACC.
  13. Through seven episodes now. The Faks crack me up.
  14. The only thing I found odd about the omelet scene was crumbled chips on a fine French dish. I'm sure it's super tasty, just odd based on my perception of those types of restaurants being super fancy and pretentious.
  15. If swing voters prefer fascism, fuck them, they're responsible, period.
  16. Especially when the most prominent replacement is VP and will take over anyway if the old man kicks the bucket during his second term. This whole discussion is insane.
  17. I don't understand how so many people drown on lakes every boating holiday. Like 5 yesterday in Oklahoma. At least the oceans have currents and riptides, but fucking man made lakes. I think it's Darwinism in action.
  18. He listed his big ass mansion in Stillwater for sale, way overpriced, so not exactly a motivated seller. Said they're downgrading since the last kid is about to graduate high school. His rolling contract is basically a lifetime deal, I don't think he'll be doing the job hunting dance anymore. Not sure how long until he retires but I'm pretty sure it'll be with OSU. But who knows anymore.
  19. Democrats, including Joe himself, have hammered this, over, and over, and over again, for months, including after the convictions. Same with abortion, and Project 2025, and trump's distain for the military and veterans, and his love for Putin and Kim Jong. Over, and over, and over again it's been said. The polls barely move. The people who need to be convinced simply don't give a shit. Maybe in October? It's just abundantly clear that this election isn't about electing Biden (or whatever person you all think should replace him), it's about keeping a traitor out of office, and that doesn't seem to be enough for some reason. If people are still on the fence now, they aren't going to change their mind based on whose at the top of the ticket. If they think Biden is too old or in cognitive decline and that trump is therefore the same or better, they can't be helped.
  20. They'll be playing videos of her side by side with Hillary Clinton. She'll be considered just as unlikeable within a month. The independents that will supposedly swing this election will fall for every attack on every replacement, period, that's who they are. The only possible appeal to them is Biden's four year record of accomplishments. Anyone who is on the fence between donald trump and literally anybody else is already a lost cause.
  21. Neither is Biden's, but lets keep saying it, because some "centrists" who thus far are okay with another presidency from donald fucking trump might just change their minds. They definitely won't fall for the next wave of attacks on the new candidate. Cause their just so smart, which is why they are still on the fence over whether donald fucking trump should be president again.
  22. Yup. It's not fair, at all, but it's absolutely true, a woman, a Black women especially, has zero chance, period. It would play right into maga's hands. I agree, if a change was absolutely necessary, it has to be Newsome, he is the most skilled politician available.
  23. I mean, everyone realizes that if Joe were to have real problems, Kamala would become president anyway, right? How exactly does it move the needle to put her on the top of the ticket? Where a bunch of the "concerned moderates" will undoubtedly fall for the incoming wave of racist and misogynistic attacks? Yeah, that'll work, sure thing.
  24. Dear Leader vs Kamala Harris. A magastan wet dream. Thanks everyone, good work.
