  1. You are dead on. Reminded me of this, from Isaac Asimov: “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”
  2. Social media specifically, but your point stands. I have suggested this book before, and things are only worse now.
  3. I clicked the link because I haven't kept up with ol Alex J and it appears he was making those videos from the inside of a vehicle. Is he allowed to do this regular broadcast stuff anymore? Thought he was sued into oblivion. Does he still own his old IP?

  5. I admire your optimism. My statement about Rogan was actually regardless of politics. Just pure idiocracy. But while I'm at it, I really doubt Rogan goes all anti-Trump, or that it would make much of a dent if he did. I'm not convinced Rogan listeners are active voters but I admittedly have nothing to base that on. Trump has a 79% approval rating among Republicans. Sure, that's down, but it is still a strong majority. They like the fascism. They don't care if they hurt as long as you and I hurt too. Random "oh look here's a tweet from an upset maga" doesn't represent the majority of them.
  6. Pretty much what I was thinking. That he is the "podcast king" indicates all we need to know about this country.
  7. Reading about this from afar, and hearing some things from friends and family back in the Austin area. Was out of the loop on it until this morning. What a horrible tragedy in Kerrville and my sympathies to anyone affected. And as areas continue to flood my best wishes to all of you to stay safe.
  8. Seems a good day for this one.
  9. Again, I don't know much about the NYC mayoral candidates but good grief this ap news coverage. and this is the AP. So immediately, progressive = non-pragmatic. Right there. Holy crap. The ICC, Amnesty International, e.t.c. all use that term. Only in America is this somehow a controversy. Yikes on the third way. And goddamn worrying about what Republicans think. Seriously. Welp, now I guess w/o knowing anything I'm pro-Mr. Mamdani. If something seriously wrong with him comes out I reserve the right to change my mind. Of course, over here in Oregon my thoughts on the mayor of NYC mean zilch.
  10. huh. I wonder who was the mayor of NYC when 9/11 actually happened?
  11. A bit of good news. I know, the struggle isn't over (Lee has already said he's going to try again) , but anything positive these days seems worth celebrating. https://newrepublic.com/post/197167/republicans-remove-sale-public-lands-budget-bill
  12. I confess to not following the NYC Mayoral campaign closely. But AIPAC is fucking PISSED.
  13. Right. Thus my question. But never mind.
  14. Holy shit. You think Iran was the bully in this? You think Iran is the crazy murderous state in the region? Wow.

  16. He's going to make it into his 90s like Kissinger and Pat Robertson. But it is yet another item in the 'wild' category that our mango dictator is 79 freaking years old.
  17. OK, a bit more internet. This is 3 years old but yeah.
  18. well that’s enough internet for the day.
