  1. If what I read can be trusted he lost a six month old to lukemia in 2001 and many think his alcholism/downward slide stemmed from that. I can't judge. Sad all around. RIP.
  2. Calling their slang 'loony lingo' will help you relate to them in a respectful manner.
  3. Not to mention the whole 'well armed militia' bit. And that the 2a has been interpreted differently through out the years. I'm for confiscating the guns myself. Will never happen but I would not feel sorry for one hobbyist. Let the dudes living in the wilds of Alaska keep what they need to surive.
  4. I don't follow the ski threads like I should but this is my home mountain. I got 36 'days' in last year. Now unlike most of you I took up snowboarding at age 49 (before Covid closed the mountain) having not done any winter sports at all prior. Also, when I put quotes on 'days' its because some days are just a few hours after work. Kind of spoiled with a season pass and a local mountain. So I'm not great, mostly blues, a few blacks, and plenty of skiers and boarders are way faster/much more skilled than me. There's just a difference between people who learned at a young age and someone taking it up in their old age. That said, I have fun and I've given my son the gift of lessons in a sport I never got to participate in. So hopefully as an adult he'll have a level of skill I never did. Also fun being part of the culture and occaisionally catching some pros riding around (in snowboarding, I wouldn't know the pro skiers). Anyway I do forget to check the hobbies board but if any of you make it up to Bachy, ping me and maybe I can join you on your warm up runs before you move on to the bigger stuff.
  5. Slow day so I read some more. Not only is it not a Biden thing, it is not even necessarily a sure thing at all: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-12438233/Americans-limited-two-beers-strict-new-alcohol-guidelines-Bidens-booze-czar.html So forgetting the sensationalist headline, the Doctor is saying we could move towards the two drinks a week max as a recommendation. Wow, sure is worth getting fake angry over.
  6. Haven't seen the study Rafael is complaining about, but I have been reading some other health related/longevity related articles/newsletters and I have seen this two per week maximimum recommendation come up. The first time was dealing with steps towards reducing your chances at neurodegenerative diseases.* from a newsletter that summarzied this study ("Association between healthy lifestyle and memory decline in older adults: 10 year, population based, prospective cohort study") There's this "Nordic Nutrition Recommendations" that says Everywhere I see that article discussed people get bogged down in the meat argument, and seem to skip the no alcohol recommedation. Now, I write this as someone who really enjoys good beer pretty often, including some last night. But I don't think I'm ignorant of the risks I am taking. It seems from a layman's point of view quite obvious that if the goal is long term health/mental vitality then avoiding alcohol altogether is the safest bet. Next safest is now the two per week at most recommendation that seems to be gaining popularity. So not sure what Rafael is all upset about. If you want to keep getting fatter and unhealthier go right ahread. Although perhaps not being from this planet makes him immune to the delterious effects of an unhealthy diet. *not sure we would recognize any mental decline on his part.
  7. Guess that was just a stupid question in general. I guess I really wondered if there was any crime that a President couldn't pardon. Such as, say 'seditious conspiracy.'
  8. You're right. There is a real problem with mass stonings in this country.
  9. Non-lawyer question--could an R prez pardon them?
  10. while this might be true it seems the damage he's done over the decades is enough to have sunk as all. pick an issue, but the climate change that will get all of humanity (sooner rather than later) is a good start. horn4life's post is also great in summarizing some other issues. healthcare for all would seem topical, but he's done great damage there as well. the entire trump enablement so he could do more damage. in short my friend, it doesn't matter to me if the 'next' is more or less effective. he's fucked us all and imo nobody has done more actual damage to this country and changed the rules of engagement. so since we're all fucked, please parade his currently suffering ass around a bit more for me to sneer at.
  11. " socialist agenda" lol.
  12. that x post didn't show the follow up question which is worth a view https://www.cnbc.com/2023/08/30/mitch-mcconnell-freezes-struggles-to-speak-in-second-incident-this-summer.html?__source=iosappshare|com.apple.UIKit.activity.CopyToPasteboard
  13. fucking same. he's done so much fucking damage to this country that frankly i'm all for them wheeling him out for more of these. edit: which totally contradicts my attempts to be a nicer person. but whatever, fuck him.
  14. I would add that somewhere around the time we get back to taxing the wealthy properly like we used to please go ahead and tax all churches.
  15. That idiot was the actual President of The United States of America. I say it all the time, but there are days where I still can't believe it and it makes me wonder if I'm getting early dementia just thinking about it.
  16. He looks like he should have been a deputy for Roscoe P. Coltrane.
  17. I forgot about this from May: https://naacp.org/articles/naacp-issues-travel-advisory-florida Sadly accurate. Desantis predictably called the advisory a stunt.
  18. Lots of Happy Gilmore references. He was in his early 70's when that came out. Good living. RIP. https://www.instagram.com/p/CwanXfYRBHF/?img_index=4

  20. Rednecks free to drink bad beer again?
