  2. I have no idea why i can't get that formatting correct. Sorry, but yeah, get off Twitter, really.
  3. Elon Musk Decrees That Twitter Will Consider “Cisgender” a Slur https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/elon-musk-decrees-twitter-consider-165204527.html
  4. This one was mentioned earlier in the thread. Some more details. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/law-justice/seattle-couple-identified-as-2-killed-in-gorge-amphitheatre-shooting/
  5. I'm wondering if they got the plans for this thing by answering one of those ads in the back of Popular Science.
  6. I remembered the story about Greta Van uh, T blasting him on Twitter and him getting busted. But it took some time to recall. Then I completely forgot who he was again, and still don't quite understand how he has a following at all. I guess being out of touch and old isn't always a bad thing.
  7. If I'm missing the joke I apologize, but it really isn't.
  8. clicked the youtube link. they were navigating via text message? no gracias.

  10. As you know I left in 2019 for Oregon. And no, not going to post my weather forecast. But my last few years in ATX I enjoyed visiting this place in Wimberly: https://www.cityofwimberley.com/202/Blue-Hole-Regional-Park
  11. Some people don’t get the idea of truly enjoying being outside versus being tough enough to be outside.
  12. Constant consumption of the perpetual outrage machines tends to have an impact.
  13. I read Blood Meridian and No Country For Old Men. My challenge in reading Blood Meridian wasn't the violence, but instead what I would call the 'thickness' of it. Very dense, many words I could not find in a dictionary and the whole punctuation thing. It was obviously great, but it was a challenging read and I was releived when I was finished with it. He wouldn't make my personal list of favorite authors. But I recognize his greatness and his skilll. RIP.
  14. Pretty much this. Been using Apollo for what feels like a long time, sad to see it go. Been on reddit a long time, and kept trimming down the subreddits I follow to basically hobbies, dad jokes, and some regional subreddits. That stated, I've been feeling like for some time it has been something I needed to basically quit wasting time on. However, I find some of the best 'how to' and adivce/reviews on products is typically found searching reddit. Will miss that. During all the talk of the API issue this article by Cory Doctorow got posted a few times: https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/#hey-guys It is a long but good read on why everything internet related goes to shit eventually.
  15. This. Died a rich old man. Probably left a large inheritance.
  16. Missed this news when it happened. Man, so depressing. And yeah, we definitely are fucked.
  17. At first I clicked “like.” Then I realized I was drooling so had to change it.
  18. Well, shit. Let me know which year you cover some central Oregon....
  19. Well that would be the kind of miracle that might win him a nomination or two.
  20. I approve this message. And on the matter at hand, again my condolences to all of you who knew MAC and to his family. But also my thanks. Without this thread I wouldn't have been put in touch with his writing and the impact he had on so many. I feel more enriched for having read them. Thanks for all the shares.
  21. https://apnews.com/article/758307fb4856c91138c085ad70505841 Interesting read.
  22. Looks good, but the child being the weapon plot point I feel like I have seen a few times. My bad memory prevents me from recalling all of them, but Space Sweepers on Netflix was one of them:
  23. Man, I'm only 53 but I am perfectly good with the government providing me a driver when I get even older. I have heard some countries give folks nannies for the first year of child birth, so I guess I missed out on that. Also, I will most likely hit the driver in the shins with my cane and yell "Faster, I'm running out of time!" a few times, so I hope that's OK. Just don't make me take the bus like a damn peasant.
