  1. Perception is a strange thing. I find it interesting to hear 'jobs' touted as a win. In enterprise tech just about all I see is layoffs. Of course, I think the layoffs are bullshit. Just last year you hear about 'record profits.' This year its all cost cutting measures. Disney just announced 7k layoffs. Nobody seems to save the profits to keep from having to fuck the non high level management. I'm sure the CEO's enjoyed their new yachts. Please don't misunderstand, not blaming Biden at all, and maybe all non-tech industries that I don't pay attention to (which is all of them) are doing great. Just my perception of the employment picture is doom and gloom for the moment. And that perception isn't from watching any TV. But I'm sure next year will be hiring time, rinse and repeat the cycle. I also look forward to groceries being reasonable again. Heh. I'm sure that will happen any day now. Same with my natural gas bill. Oh shit, I'm just bitching now, sorry.
  2. wasn't showing up for me. thanks for the correction.
  3. Gotcha. Sounds like it might be a good deal, then.
  4. .
  5. Says $24.99/month on the 'zon page I see. First I have heard about it. Reviews seem mixed. Would be curious as to how it works out for you though. All my vinyl is on pre-order right now. Including this one: https://store.wearedelasoul.com/products/3-feet-high-and-rising-physical-album?variant=43898508050710
  6. I have skimmed much of this thread so apologies if this has been posted. Here's a video of him skateboarding https://old.reddit.com/r/skateboarding/comments/10mqsjd/tyre_nichols_skateboarding/ and one where he chose 'we all float on' as the song: I haven't and won't watch the video where he got beat to death in a cruel fashion. Descriptions are usually enough for me, and thanks to those of you provided them.
  7. Guess that depends on definition of 'overreacting.'
  8. De La Soul's first six albums coming to streaming services on March 3. can't wait.
  9. not metal, but fun.
  10. Maybe today will be the big day! (to be clear, bemoaning the situation we're all in, not picking on you in particular)
  11. Yeah, no. Facebook parent Meta said Wednesday it will restore former President Donald Trump ‘s personal account in the coming weeks, ending a two-year suspension it imposed in the wake of the Jan. 6 insurrection. https://apnews.com/article/8613875e57f842c869e88042450aef23
  12. yeah, if we start counting local bands, well I lived next to the backroom for a year and saw Pariah a bunch. and Ian Moore used to gig on the reg in deep ellum when i lived in Dallas. I would always end the night there.
  13. I've mentioned it before, but the book "Chaos Machines" really caused me to re-evaluate my attitude during some of those peak "Hermain Cain award" moments. There are multiple factors, but the very nature of social media imo is the reason many are dead. And of course Trump politicizing it on his end. But even then, I'm pretty convinced that Facebook and twitter bear the greatest responsbilty. Just because people are dupes doesn't mean it is good to dupe them or that they deserved horrible deaths.
  14. As to the other sadness, we have decided we see cool with kids dying in schools and then pretending nothing can be done. We are a decaying society by any obvious stretch. I still vainly hold on to the notion that due to my age I won’t be around to see the total collapse but I wouldn’t bet on it.
  15. Remember during the Dormer situation when LA cops fired randomly into trucks that looked like the truck he drove? Remember the Rampart scandal? Ever read the Rolling Stone article on Tupac and Biggie? One of the most dangerous gangs in LA is the police force itself. Sure, give ‘em bazookas.
  16. if you hate this, you hate fun
  17. In terms of this thread, Slayer or Lamb Of God. Maybe Anthrax (they seem to be the 'middle band on a lot of shows I went to see). In terms of general music it would easily be The Cult.
  18. Have not listened to Stern in decades. Thanks for that nice and touching clip.
  19. Was listening to their self titled last night all the way through for the first time in a long time. Had no idea about the news, was just appreciative of their music. Read the news this morning. Asshole or not, that music will be loved for a very long time. RIP.
  20. Especially after admitting he was a medically obese type 2 diabetic.
  21. This was a good read. And then I saw this, which she supposedly posted after his arrest:
  22. So overall I have been under a rock in terms of heavy music lately. So I have been scouring some best of 2022 lists and found this one. For me, this is incredibly different. Great album. Mixed African spiritual music with black metal, death, industrial, and all kinds of crap. And somehow that mix really works. Fantastic.
  23. Since there are no moderates to be found that won't be difficult.
  24. There will be no apologies or accountability or moments of silence. As many already stated, they should have automatically lost office the day they voted against certification. But yeah, if it gets done on the anniversary of the insurrection attempt it would certainly seem appropriate.
