  2. I keep thinking of this. https://archive.is/iMwCb 139 house reps. McCarthy was one of them. There's humor to be had, but we're also just watching bad people attack other bad people.

Deadheads aren't too bad I guess. Other than liking boring ass shit. Stupid.
  5. Wife gave my NAS's Illmatic on vinyl for Christmas, so I got that going for me. Also, digging this one:
  6. Homeland Security Admits It Tried to Manufacture Fake Terrorists for Trump https://www.yahoo.com/video/homeland-security-admits-tried-manufacture-114500599.html
  7. This stuff definitely my cup of tea If you dig, whole album is worth a shot.
  8. Sorry for the multiple replies, but I should have written out more before hitting reply on my multiple edits. My poor form. But engagement is still the primary driver. Even when you take the fringe conpsiracy theories out of the equation (and we shouldn't) you still come up with YouTube attempting to do all they can to keep you glued. The alogrithims very much drive towards engagement and unfortunately engagement is more likely when highly emotional and tribal content is viewed. This isn't to discount Musk being an asshole. It is just the roots of this stuff are couched in such insular circle of engineering solves all hubris that it goes deeper.
  9. True enough. I may be a poor choice as someone to summarize the book. But the author is an excellent writer. There's just quite a bit to distill. Edit: It isn't just about the US or even the intent. You're describing the bad actors making use of the system, imo. Musk isn't the only actor here. As the author points out, we know Musk and Zuckerberg. But who can without google searching tell me who the CEO of YouTube is? I know I was not aware.
  10. As good a place as any to drop this, speaking of books: I'm about 60% into it. The book covers Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Whatsapp, e.t.c. It also details the history of Silicon Valley and how many of the issues encountered are repeated due to the insularity and hubris within that group of executives and start ups. I very highly recommend this book. Will give you pause before continuing to even venture onto those platforms, for sure. But will also give plenty of insight into many of the issues we complain about there. Polarization, easily believing obvious falsehoods, e.t.c. It is more than just "dubm people congregate." The algorithims themselves continually drive and influence, and the end game is engagement. Unfortunately, and this is my opinion at this point, it comes down to money. So in the long run we'll lose. But it will give you insight into the history, and issues, involving how we as a society have very intentionally been re-wired. NYT review.
  11. Crazy technical thrash. According to a review I read, their first album came out in 1987, then they disappeared until 2017. They mix a lot of interesting elements into their thrash. Hard to get bored with it.
  12. Time for your nap grandpa.

  17. Yeah, let's just focus on our overall agreement on Kissinger.
  18. Two more years of Trump being the center of the US's political coverage is just depressing. I keep randomly checking in to see if he got indicted knowing he it won't happen. Kind of like buying that lottery ticket and for a few days fantasizing about being a millionaire. Instead we'll get the what crazy thing he said today news. The "oh this is really bad for him this time" news. That one is the worst, imo. Oh yeah, this looks bad but they'll get him real soon news. Ugh.
  19. Huh, last I checked this one was losing. Nice. https://oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2022/11/15/oregon-will-be-the-first-state-to-make-affordable-health-care-a-constitutional-right/

  21. he's another on my list of proof there is no God. but at this point in his awful life he isn't directly influencing things much I don't think.
  22. It seems a lot of folks have forgotten Fox didn't want him to win the primary the first go round either.
  23. Oh the ever slowly turning wheels of justice that just happen to squash the common man while letting this douche nozzle get away with everything. I watched the Fifth Element for the first time in a few years this past weekend. Luke Perry has a brief bit in it. I was then reminded that Luke Perry is dead. Died at 52 from a stroke. I never watched 90210 but everyone knew of it. From the brief accounts I read he was a well liked person. Then I thought of Clarence Thomas. And now this fat orange psychopath. And someone posted a Bannon clip earlier. Seems evil really does live forever.
