  1. I fell down a Youtube rabbit hole today listening to a few reaction to song videos from vocal coaches and the like and stumbled upon this gem that made me laugh out loud literally.

  6. Phantasm. It's been several decades since I saw this quirky horror flick for the first time (as a teenager). Watched it with my son the other night as he had not seen it. It starts really slow but does a credible job of building a real sense of suspense. I didn't remember from my first viewing, but the sound effects were really on point. A few gratuitous shots of titties and lots of bizarre supernatural nonsense. The middle to end of the movie is fun shlock. Oh, and it screams 70s with the clothes, hairdos and cars.

  13. It took roughly a year after the Seattle experiment for the NBER study to have sufficient data. I suppose we might see some studies on the effects of California's FAST act by early 2025. I'm not clear on how fast the min wage is supposed to rise, but the ~33% increase seems close enough to to the Seattle's 37% jump to be analogous (compared to the average increase of 10% in the later composite study mentioned in post #13) . It will be interesting to see if Jacob Vigdor's analysis (which, worded differently, appears to be in line with what the Cato dude was saying) holds true.

  19. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2023/10/12/companies/payment-network-diruption-restored/ Zengin processes 6.5 million transactions a day. It was not working for two days. They say it "affected" 5 million transactions. I'm pretty sure 6.5m x 2 <> 5m. How crippling would it be if the ACH system went down? I assume that is our equivalent to Japan's Zengin system.
