  1. its a gluttony of riches out there for bourbon lovers. you can walk out of a liquor store empty-handed that has 3000 bottles of bourbon on the shelf and say they had nothing. old grand dad is another one. its not that they arent good bourbons, or that i dont like them, just the luxury of being selective and looking for something better.
  2. lets agree to disagree. their bib is about 4 yrs old. i believe 10 yrs is the sweet spot for all bourbons, and would compare it to russells 10 (maybe not quite as good), or eagle rare 10 (definitely not as good). those are all around the same price point. the ewbib is about half that price so agree on the value at least. now heaven hills old fitz, at 10 yrs, thats a steal at double the price of the mckenna.
  3. i have had maple syrup mold in my pantry. it stays in the fridge now.
  4. hank and willie are half of the mt rushmore, and they are etched in stone (so to speak). i'm not sure i'd put dolly up there, or cash or kris or waylon, or cindy walker. of those, dolly would be the highest rated. possibly george jones, but i'm thinking bob wills has to be third. bill monroe or jimmie rodgers are fighting for fourth. that leaves out so many good ones - lefty frizzell, ray price, merle, loretta lynn, tammy wynette, roy acuff, kitty wells, merle, etc.
  5. either. any creamy mexican cheese - not the crumbly one.
  6. Mark Katz agrees with your stellar logic.

  8. i thought that rhynaera sent her there with dragon eggs to appease them because they were promised a dragon. maybe i misinterpreted but i thought it was a question of suspicion since she noticed they had a dragon already. agree that daemon and corlys stories are stagnant. they have done nothing all season. lets get the show on the road already.
  9. Did not like: moonlight avatar: way of water everything everywhere all at once the academy let me down with those three
  10. was originally on showtime, i think. loved the series. something very pleasing about ewan mcgregors acting, and his wife is fantastic too. the character ewan played was such a good person, uplifting and always positive.
  11. all those prices are way too high. great bourbon, but almost double msrp. eagle rare is the best value on that list, but the bookers would be tempting. you see a lot more eagle rare out there than bookers.
  12. finebaum is a douche. even lowell galindo is less irritating.
  13. Never knew it as a restaurant, or as a city draw as a restaurant. The commercials seemed as failed attempts to make it so. It was used for student housing in 82 as overflow for overbooked jester residents.
  14. dont remember harvey's heros. i do remember texadelphia wasnt there when i first started at ut in '82, but had no clue what was there.
  15. the california burger, with sprouts and avocado was a top 10 burger of austin all time. belongs in the austin burger hall of fame. i could never afford the shakes. hell i probably never even bought a drink there. i was a poor college student but i was happy. the problem mad dogs had was texadelphia was about a block away and i probably liked it better, and then there's gm steakhouse, just up from that. in my opinon the alltime greatest austin burger ever made. #1 in the austin burger hall of fame.
  16. lets not lament one chain restaurant closing and being replaced with another chain restaurant.
  17. has everybody in town eaten a charcuterie board off his wife's ass?
  18. i would not recommend the uber. if you fly into nashville, rent a car and you are free to design your own tour. drinking too much is easy to avoid. the roads are narrow and curvy and have lots of tourists on them. just stay moderately sober/slightly inebriated, sample an oldfashioned here and there, sample some tastings, enjoy your time there. i just like the freedom of having your own car and being able to hit an extra distillery if youre up for it, skipping one if youre not, etc. the other option is you will see a ton of tourist shuttle vans in every distillery parking lot, dropping people off, picking people up, taking them to the next stop. bourbon boys, bourbon bros, just google it and you will find plenty of options to shuttle you around. those people seem to be having a good time. dont know anything about the cost, or the flexibiliity, but thats what the internet is for.
  19. i did two nights in bardstown and 1 in lousville, and it was about 2 nights too short. in bardstown, really enjoyed willet, makers mark, and evan williams. not sure which direction lexington is but we took the backroads from bardstown to louisville and hit four roses, woodford, turkey, and then on to frankfort and buffalo trace, which is pretty much the outskirts of louisville.
  20. i lived in san antonio for 11 years, and i could have my kayak in the water in 2 hrs it's closer to 4 now that i'm back in austin. so much harder, plus having to deal with the ferry now. if you only went once or twice a year, you could deal with it. but its a real bummer to try to get down there for a quick day of fishing with this drive. has definitely put a damper in my fishing.
  21. was in frankfort for spring break and they were flying off the shelf like they were gold. i had no idea it was hard to find now either, but was at 3 liquor stores here in austin on monday and didnt see a bottle.
  22. i've gotten turned off of specs and rarely go anymore. i've had some suspicious suggestions, that probably work on a lot of bourbon shoppers, but that's not really it. i just think total is a more pleasant experience. the one suspicious thing about total is, that have about 10 brands you never heard of or seen in your life. makes you wonder. and they'll have 8 cases of one of them stacked in the aisle. if a liquor stored ordered a case of buffalo trace, they might get one bottle. how you gonna get 8 cases of something? red flags a-flappin. if you buys 8 cases of this i'll let you use my timeshare in cabo. somekind of kickback deal going on. when i lived in san antonio it was a dearth of liquor stores. austin is lucky to have many quality independent liquor stores. i hit a few routinely, and still like to visit total but mostly for non-bourbon things.
  23. he was the first choice but wasnt sure he wanted to do it.
