  1. Don't know about that. I imagine Stone's co-conspirators (Trump, for one) would rather Stone get a light sentence and be done with it than pardon him and have Stone then be compelled to testify to Congress under penalty of perjury. Maybe some with legal chops here can speak to real world examples of individuals spilling the truth under compelled testimony (or perjuring again) after a pardon when they can't plead the Fifth, but I'm not aware of any. What Stone is covering up is a huge deal. It was an elaborate deal and it involved a lot of different actors, foreign and domestic. If there was ever a case where an individual was pardoned to protect the pardoner, this is it. Drag his ass in front of the House if Trump pulls out a pardon.
  2. Good interview with Deputy AG of Bush 41's DOJ:
  3. 21 former Chairmen of the American Bar Association's Litigation Section :
  4. Assuming he recognized his goof in coloring a flag stripe blue, he’s looking for some liquid paper. Given he’s most likely oblivious, probably just searching for anything he can huff.
  5. Need the dam to break to get that goblin to resign or be impeached. The number of former DOJ calling for Barr’s resignation is now over 2000 strong.
  6. Given the timing with Stone’s sentencing Thursday, it’s be nice if it blunts Trump’s attempt have DOJ intervene to go easy on the guy who lied and obstructed to keep Trump’s active complicity hidden. And hopefully it gives Stone’s judge some support should she opt put him away for a good bit.
  7. Let me back up. The big win here would be if this leads to Barr's resignation, or impeachment. It would arguably be worse for GOP Senate trying whitewash or pull off a coverup for Barr than for Trump. But Barr has to get stopped. If evidence comes out that is completely off the rails corrupt, especially regarding the Turkish bank/gold trader/Iran deal that likely directly implicates Trump, House may not have a choice but to consider additional articles. It's right there dangling in our faces screaming for scrutiny.
  8. pulled a couple other pics from week before last the salt lake in the background VVV
  9. There's potentially a firestorm brewing that Bolton could set off re Barr/Trump DOJ abuse and corruption and coverup. Remains to be seen, but it's not hard to envision Bolton playing a bigger role here than he could have in the impeachment for Trump/Ukraine. If you knew in advance Senate was gong to acquit for Ukraine abuse (we did), having Bolton testify for that would have been more or less a waste and blunted his potential impact in this DOJ matter. If it ends up being bad enough to warrant further consideration of further articles, I have to think the Senate doesn't want to have to perp an obvious cover-up to absorb the hit for Trump a second time. They tried to pass off Ukraine as fair turnabout, but that will be harder to do when involving the DOJ specifically. In recent days, Trump already is laying out his role as 'king' of the Executive Branch - if the he does it, it's not illegal. This is much bigger than Roger Stone sentencing, however - see Wheeler's post I linked above. Bolton could come in hot, and even though it's shitty, it'd be a bonanza for his March/April book sales.
  10. I get where you're coming from, but the racist who broadcasts it to your face has a worse effect on people. Youths and other impressionable people automatically start modeling it and it emboldens those bigots who previously had to stay in the shadows. I'm not apologizing for Bloomberg at all, just pointing out that while you may withstand it, a whole lot more people won't. Just not worth the harm.
  11. Bolton’s book “The Room Where It Happened” has a set March 17th release date. Barr testifies to Congress March 31st, so it’s definitely setting up.
  12. Wheeler offers a roundup: THE SIZE OF BILL BARR’S COVER-UP HINTS AT THE MAGNITUDE OF WHAT HE’S COVERING UP The breadth and scale is pretty staggering. DOJ whistleblowers have to come forward and at a minimum we need testimony from those recently resigned and/or ousted officials. Barr scheduled to testify to Congress March 31st defines a now 6 week window for evidence to come to light for that hearing.
  13. impeachment 2 electric bugaloo edit: the Halkbank deal relates to the biggest sanctions evasion scheme in modern history involving, wait for it..... IRAN. Barr intervened on behalf of Trump to "go easy"
  14. I haven't crunched numbers or taken a hard look at limitations on M4A or universal multipayer vs our current system, so I've got blind spots. In a political sense, this stuff is hard to communicate effectively from the stump because of cudgel counter-attacks like "death panels!" But does part of having a more balanced, affordable, and available health care system involve capping spending with potentially necessary accompanying changes in the psyche of Americans about what they are entitled to and what constitutes good health care? I can see a hybrid where there is a big boost in universal M4A availability of primary care coverage, scripts, and mental health and chemical dependency treatment, but other medical expenditure domains, i.e end of life care scenarios and long term care for dementia, being covered by choosing separate private insurance to cover those areas. The caveat would be that private add-on insurances would be excluded from covering primary care and other major M4A covered domains. Again, at some level it would likely require a shift thinking about the upper limit on costs every person is entitled to absent add-on private insurance. The costs of treatment in areas like primary care, mental health, and chemical dependency is an area where costs could be dropped considerably over what the current market bears. Govt could fund its own staff and facilities (non-tertiary care) in those areas pretty efficiently. Covering and expanding access to mental health and CD services in particular seems like the biggest bang for the buck from a standpoint of reducing overall population morbidity, lost workplace productivity, and long term collateral medical costs. They're also the areas where people tend to struggle the most across all ages getting insurance to adequately cover sufficient treatment let alone having timely access.
  15. Nevada caucuses: “Check-in will open at 10 am PT and caucuses will be called to order at 12 pm PT.” —-> looks more like energizer bunny multitasking. NV starts early voting this week and will be done early enough Saturday for her to make appearances then head up the west coast by that evening.
  16. I hadn’t thought of that and I would Be 100% fine with it. Apart from freaking out the banksters, she’s got among the least unfavorables, is progressive, and female. If POC can come around in Bloomberg, I’m not worried about Warren if and when she’s the tip of the spear.
  17. Jessie Liu and Jonathan Kravis who have now left DOJ can choose to testify. This is stacking up just like the Ukraine scandal and impeachment. It may require another impeachment inquiry type approach to simply slow Trump from his abuse and criminality. An Impeachment Round 2 is good if it helps keep the DOJ from total corrupt political disintegration, because we're essentially there.
  18. Bloomberg will have to continue to answer for things in the past and how he handles it matters. Actually apologizing with an explanation of how he was wrong - which he's doing - is a good start. For Trump, understanding and apologizing for anything is an entirely alien concept. Re redlining, I seriously doubt Trump can even offer an intelligible explanation of what it is, let alone show any awareness of associated racial/socioeconomic biases. For Bloomberg, it's a bad look historically but it's also an opportunity to demonstrate he's capable of understanding and demonstrate the capacity for change like a normal human. Trump has zero capacity for this. Regarding sexual assault/harrassment? Nothing remotely approaching sexual assault is out there that I can see, but I guess we'll wait and watch the woodwork. Meanwhile today, E. Jean Carroll is requesting a DNA sample from Trump after allegedly raping her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 90's, to go along with a boatload of other sexual assault accusations including one by a woman who was forced to service Trump wearing a latex glove at Epstein's NYC pad as a minor. Bloomberg is near the bottom of my preferred list candidates, but infinitely better than Trump as a functional leader and decent human being.
  19. Trump was personally warned by the FBI about the threat of Russian incursion into his campaign. He proceeded to accept the incursion anyway, and continues to lie about it and engage in cover-up even as his accomplices face prison.
  20. "but like so many X’s, he misses the action & just can’t keep his mouth shut" LOL, what a cad. No ass face, he wouldn't take a dirty bribe.
  21. Thinking more about Project Alamo above, I wonder if, for the all the assumed disadvantages of having a divided field up until the convention, one distinct positive is the hydra effect. Trump can't direct his flame on one opponent and blast away. And the psychographic algorithms for the digital war get too variable, potentially contradictory, and simply diluted. In 2016 it was basic full on destroy Hillary. boost Bernie. boost Green party. If the Dem candidates can pull back from overt self-cannibalization, focus on 'may best woman or man win' while all attack the lawlessness of Trump, there could be a sustained withering effect on Trump. In a 1:1 matchup, Trump simply takes all the oxygen. I'm getting the sense that the nation having its attention focused among 4 or 5 candidates firing people up about needed initiatives and reforms marginalizes Trump and deprives him, and Parscale's digital arsenal, of a clean target. I could also see how a constructive default campaign approach by committee up to the convention could help build broader momentum to flip Senate seats for the good of the country. A lot hinges the collective staying positive and attacking Trump.
  22. Don't fool yourself. What Project Alamo did in 2016 with FB, Twitter, and Cambridge Analytica was something very different than any BS Trump was spewing. It was a weapons grade operation. But you are correct, our population will be subjected to it again regardless of who the nominee is. The nominee needs to connect with enough people across the party and independent spectrums in a way that ordinary people can distinguish between what's real and what's insanely fake. Whoever it is has their work cut out.
  23. Earlier today I posted a Sanders related link to this bit about the upcoming NV caucus : A short bit ago today I heard Sanders respond when questioned about his health care proposal on the union members' current health care policies. He gave a calm confident response that seemed understandable to me. So that's reassuring and I can imagine at least warming up to better understand what's in the balance. But then, just now this from Geoconda Argüello-Kline speaking on behalf of the Culinary Union: https://twitter.com/Culinary226/status/1227710991032635393 that shit is not my ride.
