  1. These redundant checks and cross checks, coupled with bladder zipper inquiry remind me of this guy.
  2. Not gonna lie. I cheered, I teared up, and I thought about my dad. He loved this stuff.
  3. I found a southern ringneck, believe it or not, under a Prince Albert can when I was in high school He's in the permanent collection at South Plains College. (the snake, not the prince).
  4. This thread opens up a lot of scars. I have known more than my share of murderers, and their victims. Right after high school, say 1974, my friend Johnny decided to go for the easy money and smuggle some contraband across the river. He was found floating face down, a single bullet hole in his temple, in the Rio Grande. Marcus, who played forward to my guard in high school basketball, killed a guy in a bad drug deal out by the lake. After thirty years in prison, he was released. I saw him at a high school football game a few years ago, cheering on his grandson. Although he was only a few rows in front, I didn't approach him. Becky was a patient of mine-she served nineteen years for killing the guy who raped her five year old daughter. She was paroled with an ankle monitor and lasted a couple of years before violating some limitation and being sent back to finish her term. Same story with Mike-he did more than twenty years for killing the guy who raped and murdered his wife, apparently with his bare hands. He's still free, lives in a camper, and makes his living as a Pentecostal preacher. HIs monitor is off now, I'm glad to say. He is a sweet, kind, and loving soul who understandably lost control on that one occasion. The one that really gets me, though, that is still fresh, is Miss Jill. Jill and my wife cheered together in high school a lifetime ago. She was in our wedding. We hung with her and her Richardson cop first husband while I was in school at Southwestern, and then hung with her and her second husband in our old home town. Our kids were about the same age and were frequent playmates. Her older child, Jeremy, got hooked on drugs at an early age. Last August, Jill told him that he had to leave her home and that she couldn't help him any more. As a final act of gratitude, he shot her in the face. He ended her life, and condemned himself to a life in prison at best. Jill was a beloved figure in her hometown, a successful business woman and a kind and generous person. She was a beautiful woman in every regard. https://www.lubbockonline.com/news/20190903/levelland-community-mourns-longtime-dance-teacher-as-son-faces-capital-murder-charge
  5. I had one in the front yard of the farm the other day, and was delighted to visit with a herp that couldn't hurt me. He remained motionless for a couple of minutes while i hovered above him. He had five or six fire ants crawling on him, and, as I watched, so did I. Finally, I tweaked his tail and he shot off like a rocket. Fire ants itch like crazy.
  6. https://www.space.com/nasa-human-spaceflight-chief-doug-loverro-resigns.html?utm_source=notification Doug Loverro, NASA's chief of human spaceflight, resigned from his post Monday (May 18) after less than a year on the job, the agency announced today (May 19). Loverro's resignation as Associate Administrator for NASA's Human Exploration and Operations (HEO) Mission Directorate is a stunning development, as the agency counts down to the first orbital crew launch from U.S. soil in nearly a decade, which will take place on May 27. What could go wrong?
  7. Mark me down as a big fan. Some of the instructors are quite comely.
  8. Trent seems like sort of a butt. The Big Country Snake Removal guys, on FB and Youtube, are very professional, very respectful of their quarry, and crazy af.
  9. So Mike Edwards of ELO was just driving down the road minding his own business when whap! he got killed by a hay bale rolling down the hill.
  10. I remember when Bob Cousy and Don Nelson were hot stuff.
  11. I hope somewhere, somehow Jeff Fisher is watching. And I hope a tear trickles down his cheek as he once and for realize what he squandered, what he ruined. Fuck Jeff Fisher.
  12. Nothing happened to Vince. He’s still Vince. Fuck Jeff Fisher.
  13. And now, Joe Diffie. He’s younger than I am. I’m not afraid of dying, it’s the thought of being dead. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/joe-diffie-country-singer-dead-obituary-974556/amp/
  14. Could it have been basketball related? https://www.kcbd.com/2020/03/25/basketball-tournament-possible-commonality-hockley-county-coronavirus-cases/ By KCBD Staff | March 25, 2020 at 9:31 AM CDT - Updated March 25 at 1:44 PM LEVELLAND, Texas (KCBD) - In a statement released to a Levelland radio station, the county judge for Hockley County said there is a possibility a March basketball tournament could have contributed to the spread of COVID-19 in the region. Judge Sharla Baldridge was given a report from the Texas Department of Health Services that said the boys A and AA regional basketball tournament on March 7 was a possible common event in some confirmed coronavirus cases. That tournament took place on March 6 and 7 on the South Plains College campus. “At this time this event does not seem to be a common attribute in any of Hockley County’s confirmed cases,” Baldrige said in a statement to KLVT-FM in Levelland. Judge Baldridge said there was a case reported in Brownfield where investigators were told someone was at a sporting event in Levelland on that date, but they can’t conclusively connect it to this tournament. This incident was not connected to the tournament, but it was reported on March 7. The health services department will continue the investigation into the confirmed cases in Hockley County. As of the publishing of this article, five cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the county. Overall, the South Plains has recorded 22 cases, with the majority of them in Lubbock County. “I cannot emphasize enough to our citizens that we must be united and diligent as a county in the battle against the spread of COVID-19,” Baldridge said. “Without complete cooperation and compliance with the safety guidelines set out by CDC and strict compliance with Governor Abbott’s Executive Orders by everyone in Hockley County, we cannot flatten the curve and protect our citizens.”
  15. I’d rather have a bottle on top of me than a frontal lobotomy?
  16. Several years ago, I took a similar approach. I went to Supercuts, told the lady I wanted their longest clipper (8 1/2) all over. She tried to dissuade me-poor child had never seen the A-Team. Years later, I am still sporting the George Peppard look.
  17. I don't know if any of you olds (or young, for that matter) have ever visited Crown and Anchor Pub, but the head hefe' at the joint, Derven, was my suite-mate in college a lifetime ago. They closed today-Saint Patrick's Day-and must be worried to death about the future of that proud establishment. When this is all over, go to the C&A, buy a burger and a few beers, shoot some pool, tip your server handsomely, and tell Derven Bill said hello.
  18. I'm on day five of "self quarantine". I spent spring break getting my CME at WDW, and, according to Mother UHS-that's now a hot spot. So, me and at least three of my colleagues are stuck in our respective homes, enjoying another two weeks of unproductiveness. We all feel fine, thanks for asking.
  19. Several years ago, our downstairs ac went out, and the vac dude allowed that it would be ten days before he could fix it. We went to Lowes, bought a 110 window unit for just over a hundred bucks, and slept like champs. Even after the ac was repaired, we kept the little unit that could in our window all summer long. Must have gotten down to the low sixties in our room. Best summer ever.
  20. Thanks man. Lots of hearts broken.
  21. My son's band was scheduled for a showcase plus two other shows. They had invites to the Grammy party. Kind of glad he's not going. I'm fond of the kid.
