  13. Plain Text Reply Gosh numbers are numbers that represent more than one quantity so that when you perceive the coincidence you say Gosh. Some gosh numbers are trivial. Some are of perhaps Transcendental importance. Some religious people think they are proof of the existence of the Gods/esses. Some gosh numbers are; .5 degrees is the angular diameter of both the sun and the moon as seen from earth. Gosh, how strange that they should be the same but also how useful, because it is partly because of this coincidence that earth has eclipses. Minus 40 degrees is the temperature which is the same in both the Fahrenheit and Celsius scales. Gosh Ten to the 39th is a measure of the weakness of the gravitational force as compared with the electromagnetic. It is also the age of the universe expressed as a dimensionless number. It is also the square root of the number of particles in the observable universe, that is, that part of the universe relative to earth in which Hubbles constant is less than .5. Gosh Most gosh numbers are dimensionless because they are the same in any units you measure. Infinity is also a dimensionless number, since you will get the same value no matter what unit of measurement you use. PS This was taken from the works of Frederik Pohl
  14. Yep-that's the "Grand Old Man of Medicine" phenomenon. I guess I've got a little of that-I plan to practice until I am at least seventy because it's all I know how to do any more. I like it, it keeps me engaged, and I'm still pretty good at it. I am, however, looking forward to my wife's retirement.
  15. Couple of years ago, I made a five a.m. coffee run while vacationing on SPI. As I was crossing Gulf boulevard with my two cups of joe, a white-haired dude came riding up the street on a chopper-style bicycle. When he drew even, I could see that all he was wearing was a white body thong. At that very moment, I understood retirement.

The performance marked a lifetime achievement for the 43-year-old HGTV personality and a massive fundraising effort for cancer research thanks to a collaboration with Gabriele Grunewald, a cancer survivor and professional runner. The final mile was completed with his youngest daughter, Emmie Kay, 8, who held his hand as the pair crossed the finish line to a roaring crowd on Webster Avenue.
