Re: wine glasses.  My wife inherited her Grandmother's crystal a few years back.  I guess the fact that she was never allowed to touch it as a child has created an incessant desire to touch it and use it as an adult.  Every time she gets herself a glass of wine, she uses a an antique, irreplaceable crystal wine glass, and then leaves it on the end table or right on the edge of the kitchen sink.  Haven't broken one yet, but I know the day will come and the wailing will be epic.  And it will somehow be my fault.

My parents bought all kinds of crystal drinkware when I was a kid. After my mom died 15 years ago, my dad kept pushing us to take some. My sister took a few pieces but he keeps bugging her about it. Now she's trying to get him to pester me instead. Fuck that noise.

Thursday/Friday night games are the kind of thing people enjoy as long as their team isn't involved.

I love the thur/fri or 11:00 AM sat game for my team. Then I can fuck off and do whatever I want for most of my Saturday. I hate waiting around till 3 or 7 or God forbid 9.

Skip is sooo bad, they can't find anyone to work with him.

Or they just can't find anyone to work for peanuts. I doubt that many former athletes would turn down a fat paycheck to sit around and argue sports. Most probably do it for free in their spare time.

"I've got a secret and I'm not telling you.  Nah nah nah nah nah!"

    😂

    It's literally laughable.

    Reminds me of high school:

"Bro, I had hot sex with this chick last night"

    "Who??? Tell me about it"

    "Nah, I can't"

I remember reading an interview with John Kruk, after he left ESPN. He had gotten ragged on pretty hard for his preseason predictions in their opening day show, he picked some head scratchers. He said he was told by the producers to pick some weird shit because no one wanted to see every talking head pick the Yankees or whatever team was hot shit back then. He protested but had to do it anyway. After reading that, I always cut these guys some slack for their moronic picks.

  6. My kid got her first "real adult" job (her words) and left her retail gig she's had the last couple of years. So now my 50% discount is gone. I had bought some stuff online right after she put in her notice but tried for one final order last night before they turned off her employee account. No dice, the party is over. I'll have to pay full price again, fuck!

When I was a kid the only people that had tattoos were people that led a hard life; bikers, inmates, military men and my mom.

I remember when a guy with a ponytail was often looked at as a bane on society. Now the manbun dudes took his place.

I find not owning a suit to be insane, and I wear shorts and a t shirt most days to work. Weddings, Funerals, and wearing a suit occasionally on Date night gets her panties moist.

Yall showing up to funerals in crocs and cargo shorts?

I turn 50 this year, never owned a suit. I just went to a funeral, wore khakis and a plain polo shirt, no logos. Outside of the freemason brethren of the deceased, I was overdressed compared to the rest of the attendees.

Very interesting (and long) Wikipedia page about the military brat “subculture”.
I certainly can relate to most of it, particularly the changing relationships and feelings of not belonging to the civilian society.
Most Surlyites who are former military brats will probably identify with much of it too.

A few years ago, I was talking to my kids about growing up in West Germany and how great it was. I decided to plan a trip and jumped online to plot out all the stuff I wanted to show them. Then I got on google maps and discovered that the apartment building I lived in as a kid had been torn down, years ago. They built a hotel there. I was crushed. The trip plans were scrapped. I've decided Thomas Wolfe was right and I can't go home again.

That shit is scary. Swiming at the beach and drowning. Not scuba diving or falling off a boat way off shore, just swimming near a sand bar and the water gets rough and you tire out. Fuck.

Did she grow up with a Dad around? If so, this is on him.

You're in a topic about women that don't think critically, don't remember shit and don't listen...yet you think it's my fault that my 2 daughters don't remember the shit that I told them? Fuck that, I did my part.

As I have told them many times: I have given you the information. What you choose to do with it is up to you.

Hikers in the US have found human remains near the area where British actor Julian Sands disappeared.

Identification should be completed next week, the San Bernardino County sheriff's department in south California said on Saturday.

Sands, 65, disappeared on 13 January while hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains, north of Los Angeles.

He is best known for his roles in the Oscar-winning film A Room With A View, and the TV dramas 24 and Smallville.

His other credits included 2011's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, in which he appeared opposite Daniel Craig.

Sands, born in Otley, West Yorkshire, disappeared in the Baldy Bowl area during bad weather.

"Civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff's Station after they discovered human remains in the Mt Baldy wilderness," the sheriff's department said.

The statement gave no other details.

Sands's family issued a statement early this week expressing gratitude "to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian".

"We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer," they said.

I always loved "Warlock". Need to watch it again.

  13. Nowadays when you go to a funeral, there's a cheesy highlight video with some stupid modern country music bullshit playing. My sister did that for her beloved husband and when someone said to her "I didn't think he liked country" She said "Oh, he didn't really", which I thought was fucked up (I said nothing).

But it made me wonder. Am I supposed to tell my wife to play whatever she wants? I don't want people to think I was a fan of Jason Aldean or one of those other jerkoffs. However, I also realize that playing "Blitzkrieg" by Metallica isn't exactly what you'd call a remembrance tune.
