I read a while back that ou chose to keep our game over Nebraska's.  Couldn't have both.

I remember when Neb went to the north, they offered to play ou as a non-con game in the years that they were out of rotation, but Neb was really good and ou had John Blake, so ou declined.

I also agree. Isn’t England trying something like that? I am looking to at least get back to a 4-10 schedule. Fuck working Fridays.

I worked four 10s for a few years till covid stopped it. After going back to a regular schedule, my health increased dramatically. I slept better, felt like shit a lot less. I'll never go back to that schedule. I miss fridays off but we WFH every other week, so it's all good.

Understand the leech part is from @Al_4_ISU talking about the Big 10 members associated with Michigan and Ohio State able to ride their coattails, while OU and Texas bailed on the Big 12 members. I don’t think of OSU as a leech. I’d just prefer to be in the SEC. They’d only be a leech if they were insisting on being granted admittance to the SEC along with Texas and OU or they’d torpedo the whole thing, the way Texas Tech and Baylor did back in 1996 when the Big 12 was formed.

“Leech” was only used as a term for consistency’s sake. I don’t think of the other 8 teams in the original Big 10 as leeches, either. As @Al_4_ISU says, it more about being born on the wrong side of the tracks than anything else.

I have zero argument if you want to say that our stadium isn't big enough or we don't get enough attendence, or Stillwater isn't a big enough town. It's the "freerider" tag that I think is stupid. Kansas is a freerider. Kansas State is a freerider.

I also have zero issue with Texas. We weren't conference mates for that long, we rarely played before the B12 started. I don't blame them for leaving. Fuck ou though.

I guess I’m blowing off steam because I’m enraged at how we’ve done absolutely everything you’re supposed to do and doesn’t matter. We got way better. We’re top 30 in attendance and rating. We have a legitimate stadium and legitimate program and it doesn’t fucking matter because we were born on the wrong side of the tracks and sucked 30 years ago. Subjective elitist bullshit trumping meritocracy generally triggers its targets.

I agree. As an OSU fan, what more were we supposed to do? We got a BMD to pour in cash. We hired good coaches. We haven't had a losing season in 15 years, won a coference title and played for several more. We're in the top 10-12 in wins over the last decade.  And for that, we're called a leech? I feel like we did our part.

Native up here means indigenous people or tribal and there is tons of animosity between the native population and the general public.

I will probably get skewered by some for saying this, but I have never had a positive experience with a native.  I've had neutral experiences with them, but the vast majority have been negative to very negative.  Natives are openly racist towards all non-natives.  Black, brown, or white it doesn't matter.  They blame everyone else for all their problems and bad behavior.  Drunkenness, drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, or their current situation is all the fault of whomever is standing in front of them at the time.

The only time I've ever pulled a pistol on someone was when I was in Anchorage for training.  I was walking to the back to the Captain Cook hotel from dinner and a group of about 10 drunk, drugged out natives tried to get money out of me.  It starts off with can I bum a cig?  Then it goes to do you have a dollar?  When I said no to the money request the whole group started heading my way.  I pulled the pistol and pointed it right at the dude who's turn it was to ask the questions I guess.  They started in with their get the fuck out of our state white boy bullshit, but they all backed the fuck up and sat back down. This was about 2 blocks from the Anchorage Police Station.

Basically it's political suicide to say anything negative about the natives, but they can shit all over anyone they want with no repercussions.

My buddy was stationed in Alaksa (Fairbanks) for years while in the Army. He loved it but he said the exact same thing about the natives.

This may be buried in a football thread somewhere, but Charles Johnson of those good Buffs teams back in the day. Joins Rashaan on the early departed list, Kordell & Westbrook might need to be a little nervous.

Johnson caught two 2 pt conversions in a game once, got me a win in my fantasy league. I always remembered him after that. RIP.

He and Spieth both need to get divorced. 7 majors combined before they got hitched. O majors combined after marriage.

I know this was said in jest but Jack talked about it when Tiger got married. Said it makes golf tougher because of the family commitments and so much more going on in your life. Golf is forced to take a back seat.

OU playing Notre Dame, Florida State, and Ohio State, home and home, is not the same as someone else scheduling Arizona, Cal, Mississippi State, or Boise to fill the P5 conference obligation.

Do you think there's tons of blue bloods that want to play us? We've won 8 or more games in 8 of the past 10 years. Why would Ohio St want to play us? They can play ou or texas for more viewers/cred, which eases the blow if they lose. It's a lose-lose to play us. They're supposed to win, so the win doesn't mean much. A loss is a disaster. Frankly, it's like OSU playing Tulsa. I hate it, there's no upside.

(Also, we played Florida State in 2014, lost by 6)

all these big 12 clown teams followed the Bill Snyder model of scheduling to get bowl eligible and cash checks while Texas and OU did the heavy lifting

ou plays one P5 non-con game a year and 2 scrubs. Has done so for years. That's "heavy lifting"?

I live in Oklahoma and have lived in Oklahoma for 40+ years.  There isn't much hate on either side and never has been.  To the extent it exists, the vast majority of it is with the OSU die-hards, not the other way around.  OU fans don't care about OSU enough to hate them.  It's truly a big brother / little brother dynamic.  The big brother gives little brother a hard time but when push comes to shove, usually is supportive.  Most Okies who identify as OU-first cheered for Oklahoma State (non-ironically) when Big Country led the Pokes into the Final Four.  Most OU fans cheered for Gary Ward's baseball teams in the CWS back in the day.  Most OU fans cheered for Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, etc., when the Pokes weren't playing OU.

In the internet era, the OU die-hards condescend to the OSU die-hards online, primarily because of how the OSU die-hards react to it.  The internet dynamic isn't very reflective of reality, though.  OSU's TV rating are great in Oklahoma and that has a lot to do with the "we cheer for both schools" folks within the state.

I too live in Ok and have for over 35 years. I respectfully disagree with this. It would take too long to hash it all out and I don't want to clog up this thread with bedlam bullshit. However, I have a friend, he's like a brother to me. OU fan and grad, not some trailer-dwelling bum. He says that same bullshit "I always root for OSU when they're not playing ou". But one time I mentioned that I bought an autographed Josh Fields mini helmet on ebay and his attitude changed quick. "Why would you buy that? He wasn't any good!". I said for OSU football standards, he's pretty good. He got pretty surly and just kept shitting on it. I said you're only mad because he beat ou twice, he acted like I pissed in his face. So no, I don't buy the "OSU-loving sooner fan" horseshit.

  12. Went grocery shopping with the wife, she had asked me to remind her to get stuff to make pigs in a blanket. As we entered the aisle, I said don't forget to get the croissant stuff. I meant to say "crescent rolls", I'm no foodie snob or a frenchman and don't know why I said croissant but I did. She laughed and said "You mean crescent rolls? LOL". I said well, croissant is french for crescent so it's the same thing. She said "That's not true. Croissants are round."

I wonder how much you should credit a program for willingness to play on Thursday/Friday night, or at nearly midnight on Saturday, such that they have a TV window to themselves.  It probably should count for something.  Would Tech have more 1M+ viewer games if they played a bunch on Thursday/Friday?  It's likely.  Would they do it?  Who knows.

This is something Mike Gundy always talks about when people bitched about playing on thursday or friday. Getting a primetime game on a day when there's nobody else playing gives the potential to have a lot of people watching. Texas and ou don't need the help but programs like OSU can really use it. I still hate friday games but I don't disagree with his point.

Oklahoma State...their obvious problem is being the 2nd program in a small market state.

No, our problem is sharing a state with what is at worst a top 5 program in the history of the fucking sport.

  15. I just got a new VW GTI a couple of months ago and the cup holder situation is horrible. It has 2 spots but neither is actually round. The front one has a round arm that pops out to surround a drink but it's not at all secure. The rear one is square, which is dumb. Are the German's using square cans or something? Only drinking juice boxes?

Some rumor your school may join the sec?

I heard that from a coworker and I just don't believe it. Why would the SEC go after OKST now if they didn't want them when ou and Texas left? What's the incentive? DOn't get me wrong, as a fan I hope they get an invite but I'm calling BS.
