I can assure you, this one did.

It caused quite a stir within the family. When the bull went down, my friend's dad when in the house and picked up a shotgun to put down the dog. One of two sons basically got the dog in a bear hug to save the dog's life. There was a tense confrontation with a lot of, "Step away from the dog, son!!!!" and "You're NOT killing Fred, dad!!!!" In the end, the dog survived, but his days in the country were over.

And for anyone not familiar with cattle, a 500 lb bull in no where near full grown. A full grown bull can be more like 1,800 - 2,000 lbs.

My ex BIL lived in rural Oklahoma, he had a dog that would get into the neighbor's property and fuck with his cows and mules. He'd latch onto their ears or even their muzzle and just get swung around until he fell off. They'd freak out and try to stomp him. The neighbor was not amused and threated to blast the dog into the afterlife.

Eventually, due to all the hanging-on, his teeth got looser and looser until they fell out. His final few years, his food had to be wetted down because he couldn't chew the hard kibble.

Payton backed off and I'm told had a pretty good year with the 1985 Chicago Bears.

Too bad they decided to give the Fridge a garbage TD run instead of letting Payton have one. That was BS.

  3. The United States Football League Returns in 2022 | Fox Sports PressPass

    Quote

Los Angeles – Today, the United States Football League (USFL) announced that the league will officially return in the spring of 2022.

Initially launched in 1983, the USFL originally was an upstart spring football league consisting of 12 teams which featured some of the most exciting and recognizable young football stars in the country. When relaunched next year, the new USFL retains rights to key original team names.

The league will target a minimum of eight teams and deliver high-quality, innovative professional football to fans throughout the spring season.

“I’m extremely passionate about football and the opportunity to work with FOX Sports and to bring back the USFL in 2022 was an endeavor worth pursuing,” said Brian Woods, co-founder of the new USFL and founder and CEO of The Spring League (TSL). “We look forward to providing players a new opportunity to compete in a professional football league and giving fans everywhere the best football viewing product possible during what is typically a period devoid of professional football.”

FOX Sports will serve as the official broadcast partner for the USFL. FOX Sports also owns a minority equity stake in the company that owns the USFL.

“The relaunch of the USFL is a landmark day for football fans and FOX Sports,” said Eric Shanks, CEO and Executive Producer, FOX Sports. “Football is in our DNA and the return of this innovative and iconic league is a fantastic addition to our robust slate of football programming.”

More information on the USFL, including cities, teams, head coaches, and game schedules, will be announced at a later date.

This should be interesting. I wonder if they'll accept guys right out of high school?

  4. About 20 years go, my then-BIL used to breed pits and he used them for hog hunting. He gave a pup to my then-SIL, who lived with my wife and I. She was a flake and left the dog to us when she moved out. The dog was sweet, a buckskin colored female. I got another one (blue brindle male) so she could have a playmate that she couldn't just tear apart. He was great, too. One day, my sister came over and brought her 2 young kids (9 & 8 or so). Kids were running around the yard, doing kid shit. Then I see my sweet female look at my nephew in a way I'd never seen her look before. She started barking at him. Told the kids to GTFO the yard and back in the house. I never let them around a kid again and found them new homes when I decided to have kids of my own.

Both of those kids turned out to be huge losers. Maybe the dog knew what was going to happen and those barks were her way of warning them to get their shit together?

Apparently is the new thing is to send everyone you’ve ever met (and anyone your parents have ever met) a digital  “announcement” with a link to a Go Fund Me or Venmo for their honeymoon or house fund.  According to my cousin (that does wedding planning in East Texas) people always get a few hundred from people they never would have invited and likely haven’t seen in years.  And on the plus side it doesn’t cost anything other than your pride which is why it just feels icky.

About 20 years ago, I had a couple of friends each get married and the church (NOT the couple) did the "Pass the Boot" thing at both of the weddings.  People could drop in however much cash they saw fit to give. They went to the same church (kind of a strange one) and it's sort of a thing there.

No insurance? If so get the DRG they are basing the billing on and offer what Medicare will reimburse. If that doesn’t work tell them you are taking the bill to NPR

No, I have insurance and I'm not looking to get out of paying the bill or even trying to slow-play it. I just don't get the idea that they can charge interest, I've never had that happen before. Maybe there's some fine print in the admission paperwork you sign when you first get there?

Why do we hear stories of personal bankruptcy due to hospital bills like this? In fact why does anyone attempt to pay at all. The hospital can't seize your house, garnish your wages, or even send the debt to a collection agency. Tell them you cam afford ten dollars a month.

This is what I used to do, 20 years ago. I'd get a bill, then go to the accounts payable people and tell them I could afford $50 a month. They said fine. But after I got out of the hospital last year and tried this, they said I'd have no interest for 12 months, then they start charging interest. I don't know how that's possible, when I didn't sign any loan paperwork. My wife had to do the calling, so I wasn't able to ask that question.

You aren’t getting shit for under $10k. That ship sailed.

Oh, I can find some, but they're more than 1000 miles away. Things get sold before I can make a move.

  9. Maybe I'm just yelling at clouds but dammit, I can't find a second gen Camaro/Firebird for a price that's anywhere close to my budget. They're either total trash or it's just borderline trash for an outrageous price. I just want something I can drive home for under 10K. Judging from the listings I've seen, I need to move to California or Michigan.

    could waist an afternoon

You could take him belt shopping.

Just north of TF is Pauls Valley. They have the Toy and Action Figure Museum. I've never been but I've always wanted to go, just for the nostalgia. He might think it's cool.

An hour north of TF, there is the Museum of Osteology.  Has complete skeletons of almost any animal you can think of. My kids thought it was pretty neat. The gift shop has cool stuff as well.

Prime is next best for me.  They have some good original content and older movies.  A little annoying how often they are trying to sell you stuff but its not nearly as bad as Apple TV.  UI is pretty good and snappy and the quality of the stream checks in around Netflix level.

Holy shit, this annoys me to no end. Every episode has an ad at the front for one of their original shows. I'm already paying for the service, leave me the fuck alone! I'll watch  your show if I feel like it.

Did management talk to any workers before the switchover? Saying that none of the bartenders want to come back to work sounds like they got blindsided.

From what I can recall, they were all furloughed last year, as the venues were closed due to covid. During this time, they decided to switch to a cashless system, presumably to avoid touching cash and potentially getting infected. Could the bigwigs have also wanted to stop any skimming from the till? I imagine so but covid was the reason they gave to the employees. So far, it's not going well.

With the understanding that we don't know entirely what's going to end up in this bill, there has been talk about a requirement for business/property owners to "verbally" express their desire that a gun is not allowed on the premises. In other words, posting a sign may no longer be enough to require patrons be disarmed.

If that were a part of this bill, I'd like to know what y'all would have to say about that specific stipulation. Is it reasonable to require a verbal/vocal pronouncement or do y'all feel a simple display of a sign would be sufficient?

The way it works here is, you can carry into a business, even if they have a sign in the window. If they see that you're carrying (concealed or open) and demand that you leave, you have to do so immediately.

  14. My wife's company runs a bunch of bars and they just switched over to a cashless system. Now all of the bartenders don't want to come back to work because no cash means they won't get the same level of tips as before (or they can't fudge the numbers in the till).  They aren't making just 2.13/hr either. They've been scrambling to hire some bartenders from temp agencies to get by.
