Well, I'm sure a few could take up a collection of throw down pistols in their cruiser trunks, pawn 'em on the quick, and get $10k together by midnight.

They should sell them at a gun buy-back program. They get the cash and can still keep the guns. 5D chess and all that.

  2. I assume the shooter was an employee? I don't think it's a coincidence that there have been shootings like this at high stress jobs like FedEx, USPS, etc. I wonder if the high pace these companies demand is just too much for most people. My friend that worked at a UPS sorting facility in the early 90s would tell me they only gave you so many seconds per package to route that shit and they were watching. I bet the Amazon fulfilment warehouses are a timebomb as well.

I just updated mine to the 2020 maps for free on my 16. Check F-150 forums for the manual way or cyanlabs has a software that will build a flash drive for you. You can go to sync 3.4 as well, which looks way better than 3. (Runs better too).

I just checked out that Cyanlabs and it seems awesome. I'm just terrified I'm gonna brick my infotainment system, I have that kind of luck.

what's the issue with air fresheners hanging from rear view mirrors?  are cops stereotyping cars that do this as belonging to minorities?  is it a code violation?

I'm old and pretty white, so I was wondering the same thing. The only thing that I can think of it the "Black Ice" scented air freshener tree is commonly used by folks that wish to cover up the smell of weed in their car. I guess cops see that and assume you have some ganja in the car?

  5. I upgraded the Sync 3 system in my '16 F-150. When I went to see about updating the navigation maps, they want $109 for it. Really? I could just use my phone for free. They'd earn more in goodwill if they just gave it away for free.

Guys on TV wanted to look cool

I can't tell you how much this changed things. We wore ugly brown slacks and tan shirts when I started. Then the sheriff changed over to black BDU trousers and blouses/polos. Guys loved the "tactical look", and I was just as guilty of that. Sleeves rolled just right, boots bloused tight, black ballcap down low on your head.

Maybe it wasn't intentional, but after that uniform change, they definitely advertised for the type of employee they got.

I used to think this...but it sure seems that the most "hoorah GIT SOME!" types are toy soldiers -- guys who never served, but have ordered every type of "tactical" gear they can find on Amazon.  Actual vets are used to rules of engagement that in many cases were more restrictive than what cops can do to citizens here.

Maybe vets that did more than one contract. I saw several 2-4 year vets during my time in LE that had what we called "John Wayne syndrome". My dad that did 26 years on active duty? Or my BIL that did 22? You'd never know it unless they told you.

The warrior cop mentality has existed in this country for centuries.  But it certainly is one of the problematic factors that has contributed to the problem of unarmed civilians being killed by law enforcement.

I've always looked at the warrior cop thing as something started by ex-military guys that no longer wanted to deal with the discipline of the military but still wanted to have a job where they got to carry a gun and didn't have to sit at a desk. No one really watching you all day, no real work metric to be calculated.

I think we need fewer or zero vets in our police departments. Train people from the ground up, not rehash military training that might not apply to community policing.

Did she say it in a deeper voice?

No, but her mustache was thicker than usual. I'm starting to get suspicious...

She finally admitted she was responsible and asked what she could do to help, so I have that going for me.

  10. I've told this one before but we had a new boss get appointed by the governor and he was scheduled to come around and meet all of us plebes. This wasn't new for me, so I was going over my mental checklist: eye contact, Nice to meet you sir, firm handshake. Dude is brought over to our area, I stand up and thrust out may hand, "Nice to meet you, Sir". He didn't have a right hand, just a nub with part of a fingertip on it. Fuck.

To his credit, he just smiled and used his left hand. I'm sure he was used to it.

  11. My wife gives me my testosterone shot every saturday, has done for 3 years now. I just got a new bottle of the stuff last week. Fast forward to yesterday, I said hey, it's time for the shot. The new bottle is gone and the empty one is sitting on the counter. I realize what's happened: she threw away the new bottle last week by mistake. Not a huge deal, right? I didn't even say anything, I just took a shower. I can hear her searching around but it's gone, we both know what's happened. She refuses to admit it. I get out of the shower and she says "I can't find it anywhere!" and I said "That's because it got thrown away.". She absolutely will not acknowledge this, nor has she even bothered to give a half-ass "Hey, sorry if I tossed it out". It's like it never happened.

  12. You could roll the dice and get something on Wish. I bought a Scotty Cameron putter on there for $85, real ones go for $300. I compared it to the real one my buddy has, it's virtually indistinguishable. It even has all the hologram stickers and serial numbers on it.

On the other hand, I bought a pair of Yeezy sneakers on there for $30 and....yeah. They look ok from 20 feet away but they feel like the cheapest thing I own. Basically a moderately comfortable houseshoe, as I don't wear them out of the house.

Seriously dude? This is a troll job right. How do you not know about this shit. Just having a wife or gf this info should have trickled down to you. Wonder how much longer HM the Queen survives after this. It’s pretty common for the surviving spouse of a long term marriage like this to pass not long afterwards.

My parents were married for 38 years when my mom died. Dad expected that he'd drop dead in the next week or so. Coming up on 14 years later, he's still shuffling around. We're both kind of surprised, TBH.

You're thinking of the 98 Open championship where he finished T4 and low amateur about 2 weeks shy of his 18th birthday. He first played Augusta in 2003.

I remember when he turned pro and struggled for a long time. I thought he was a bum that wouldn't make it in golf. Whoops.

Cut him some slack. Jerkin’ material was hard to come by back in the day.

No shit, that's why I'm mad I didn't see this until I was in my 40s. This would've come in handy in 1983 or so.

  16. My great-grandfather came to the US from Argos and my mom had always wanted to go to Greece. My dad was able to take her in 1981 or so, left us kids with the neighbors (thanks, mom & dad).

Out of the many pics he took (and converted to slides, as one did in the 70s/80s), I still can't believe he took this one.

Meh, good for them.  A secondary benefit is a big middle finger to UTEP and their yearly champagne celebration every time another Texas team exits the tournament so they can raise their glasses on being the only school in the state with a men's natty.

Now someone in the NFL needs to do the same to the insufferable '72 Dolphins.

As an Indiana fan, I'll admit to sending the bottle-pop GIF to my friends last night. Fuck the zags and their weak conference schedule.
