  1. You could take him belt shopping. Just north of TF is Pauls Valley. They have the Toy and Action Figure Museum. I've never been but I've always wanted to go, just for the nostalgia. He might think it's cool. An hour north of TF, there is the Museum of Osteology. Has complete skeletons of almost any animal you can think of. My kids thought it was pretty neat. The gift shop has cool stuff as well.
  2. Holy shit, this annoys me to no end. Every episode has an ad at the front for one of their original shows. I'm already paying for the service, leave me the fuck alone! I'll watch your show if I feel like it.
  3. From what I can recall, they were all furloughed last year, as the venues were closed due to covid. During this time, they decided to switch to a cashless system, presumably to avoid touching cash and potentially getting infected. Could the bigwigs have also wanted to stop any skimming from the till? I imagine so but covid was the reason they gave to the employees. So far, it's not going well.
  4. IMO Maiden doesn't get enough love. I always had a few of their tapes in my '86 Ford Tempo when I was in high school.
  5. The way it works here is, you can carry into a business, even if they have a sign in the window. If they see that you're carrying (concealed or open) and demand that you leave, you have to do so immediately.
  6. My wife's company runs a bunch of bars and they just switched over to a cashless system. Now all of the bartenders don't want to come back to work because no cash means they won't get the same level of tips as before (or they can't fudge the numbers in the till). They aren't making just 2.13/hr either. They've been scrambling to hire some bartenders from temp agencies to get by.
  7. I fucking jinxed myself. Went out with the wife tonight, saw a guy open carrying as he stood in line to get into a shoe store. He looked to be around 30, dressed like a dork. What a douche.
  8. In Oklahoma, we had concealed only (with permit) for a while. The issue was, for example, you bent down to tie your shoe and your shirt came untucked and your firearm was exposed. At that point, you were no longer concealed and had technically broken the law. Then they added open carry. After that, we had permitless concealed as well. Nothing has changed. I've only seen one guy open carry in the 30+ years I've lived here.
  9. No, it won't. We've had this for a few years in Oklahoma and if the people here are as dumb, racist, methed up as most of you say, it would've happened here already. You were right in your second sentence, it will be a nothing burger. Just like the people in Oregon that thought there would be many deaths by people pumping their own gas.
  10. I don't want to speak for anyone else but I'd bet most CCL holders would agree with me: I have zero desire to shoot anyone or even draw my weapon. My only goal would be to GTFO of the situation alive. I'm not trying to shoot 3 guys, I'm trying to make my escape and keep myself/my family safe. If some shit goes down in the 7-11, I'm not going to save the clerk, I'm going for the safest exit. I wouldn't draw down on someone unless I was cornered. I've had my license for almost 3 years, never even came close to needing it but I'm glad I have the option.
  11. Sitting at the table with my kids and their friend, just shooting the shit. The question comes up "What's your favorite fictitious animal?" Wife: "Hmm, a narwhal, I guess?" Me: "Uhh, those are a real thing." Wife: "Really? Oh. Unicorn then." I'm actually proud she had heard the word narwhal and knew it was some kind of animal.
  12. I'd kick that bitch further than she could kick a ball.
  13. Ha, it was a '94 Miata. A neat little car but nothing I'd post pics of in that thread. My wife just got a '20 Mustang convertible, so the Miata became redundant. Why have hamburger when you can have steak, right? I don't miss it at all, I had it for 2.5 years and I sold it for twice what I paid. Thanks, Covid, I guess. And I'm in the OKC burbs, condolences accepted. As usual, I feel a bit better after letting of some steam in here. Thanks to everyone who take part in this thread, you guys are the shit.
  14. I'm letting things add up and weigh on me. Why? I KNOW it doesn't have to be like this. I am allowing my job to affect my peace of mind. I thought I was over this shit for a few years, I don't know why I'm all of the sudden falling into this trap that I made for myself. I want to let shit roll of my back but I can't. I was doing so well with that, too. My brother-in law's sudden passing in January is still heavy on my mind. It's making me think back to my mother's sudden passing, 14 years ago. I spent a week in the hospital last fall and now, every time I have an ache or pain, I just assume that my time is up, just like Mom and BIL. WTF? I just feel overwhelmed, I don't even know how to have fun anymore, it seems. I sold my project car last week, I was pretty much done with it and it was just sitting there in the driveway. Now I want something else but I can't find what I want, or I find something way out of my budget and I just want to give up and never bother trying to do anything. My poor wife tries to be supportive but I know she's at a loss. I just want to run down the street as fast as I can, yelling like a viking berserker. I'm angry and scared. I don't know why.
  15. There were no gardens or gardening, so it was quite a bait and switch. Lots of storm shelter/siding/window vendors. This is the price I had to pay for my wife going to various gun and car shows.
  16. I went to a home & garden show in Oklahoma City over the weekend and there was a booth from what I assume was the Texas tourism board. I find this whole topic interesting, so I asked this very nice middle-aged woman about the camping ban and her face just sank. She said she lives just outside of Austin but she frequently has to go to the capitol for work stuff and it's no longer a fun trip. Pretty much echoed many of the sentiments posted here.
  17. My wife's company is struggling to get furloughed employees back. These are bartenders, servers, BOH people, guest relations. Many have told her they're making more by staying at home. They just put on a 2 day job fair, they're desperate for help.
  18. About 25-30 years ago, I remember seeing my mom crying at the table, not a huge bawl-fest but she was upset. I didn't say anything, I just found my dad and asked him what was up. He said my mom got a letter from my grandma, telling her that she won't be able to continue to write letters anymore. Her memory problems were just too bad. I was around 20 at that time (selfish moron) and I only met my grandparents 5-6 times, so I wasn't exactly bothered by this but my mom was crushed. She and her mother wrote to each other all the time, they didn't do many phone calls. That was pretty much her only connection to her mom and it was over. Looking back as someone in my late 40s, it's really sad.
  19. "Pass the detergent, Recruit!" I'm triggered!
  20. It's been over 30 years since I've been there but from what I remember, one of the most beautiful places around. We were in Wiesbaden and I always liked going down to Heidelberg.
  21. USAF, we were in West Germany for 6 years.
  22. You gotta be gentle. Otherwise, that's how you get mad cows.
  23. I was 12 and living in western Germany, I honestly don't remember much fuss about it. Too busy beating off to pay attention, I guess. I can't give blood either, due to possible mad cow disease exposure. Thanks, Europe!
  24. I have moved past the car warranty and health insurance calls and now get solar power calls.
