  1. It's not the color that's the issue IMO. The way things are sectioned off into little boxes and whatnot, it just doesn't look right. I suppose it could be because I've gotten used to the way things have looked for so long now but it was pretty off-putting to see what I consider to be a major layout change, just out of the blue. I've never changed my settings at all.

For now, I've just set it to "No avatar". I lose avatars but the layout reverts back to how I like it. I can deal with that.

  2. What happened to the theme settings? I log in this morning and I have that pic of Bevo in the background, which I've never had before. The only way to get rid of it is to choose "No Avatar" from the theme options, but that removes everyone's avatars. The "main" and "default" themes are identical as well. I chose a different background for now (some gray color) but the whole thing looks like ass.

  3. What is the deal with people putting stickers all over their cars, inside and out? I bought a '94 MX-5 last year, wanted a cheap convertible to cruise around town. It's great but the previous owner had stupid stickers on every window. Getting them off was easy but I can still see the outline on the glass.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a gauge hood and rear bumper from a guy and both were covered in stickers. I understand that most of these cars are little shitboxes and will never be a show car but really? Maybe I'm just an old fuck, or maybe they're just young morons. I spent this afternoon trying to peel off stickers without scratching the gauge hood, so maybe I'm the moron? Either way, fuck stickers.

In 2000, my daughter was born nearly 2 months early, and spent just over a month in NICU  Also, my ex had preeclampsia, went into a coma during the delivery, and spent 2 weeks in the hospital.  In the back of my mind, I knew we were going to have some bills, but I had no idea what to expect.

As spring rolled into summer, we would get bills here and there, plus notices from the insurance company what they would pay, etc.  The hospital actually had a department that reached out to us and told us not to pay anything until the insurance company had finished.

Months pass.  It's late November, and the insurance company says they are finished.  A few days later, I get no less than 42 bills in the mail from the hospital, breaking down what was left.  It was just shy of $20,000.  Wasn't sure what to do with this, so I called the hospital, asked for a full breakdown of what was owed and to consolidate this into one bill---I wasn't going to tackle 42 bills one at a time.  They told me it would be a few weeks to get it all gathered up.  I was also told that once they had it all consolidated, interest would start accruing on the amount owed.  I wasn't given a rate, but I had nightmares of something like 20% or more, just because they could.

In the meantime, while I was waiting on the consolidated bill, I called my banker.  He recommended a second mortgage, since the interest probably would be lower than what the hospital might charge.  Turns out, he was right.

Once I got the consolidated bill, I reached out to the hospital to make sure there were no more outstanding bills they had "forgotten".  After getting in writing from the hospital the total amount owed for all services for the ex and my daughter were listed, I borrowed enough against the house, paid the hospital in full, and had the second mortgage paid off in 4 years.

Interest? It's not a fucking loan. And like you said, what sort of rate were they planning to charge? That's some bullshit. Back when I was extra-poor, any time I had a medical bill, I went directly to the A/P office and asked to make payment arrangements. Usually $50 a month, but there were a few months where $20 was all I could afford. They took whatever I gave them without complaint.

This will probably solve a lot of problems. A chill inmate is optimum.

It may cause some problems, too. What if Big Slim can't afford weed but the pencilneck in the next cell can? Why not just beat his ass and take it?

I worked in corrections and saw it happen all the time over ramen cups and donut sticks, it would be like Thunderdome if weed had been on the line.

My first step is telling people who open a speech with "I'm fourth generation Texan...third generation Longhorn" to shut the fuck up until they have some actual achievement to discuss.

Yeah, I've never understood this either. "Damn proud to have been born in (Tex, OK, NY, etc.)!". Why? Does it come with special powers? I'm sure there's many adopted people that, before they found out, were sure that they were proudly born and raised in their current state. Then they get told the truth and...nothing changes?

  7. Driving through some rural area today, my wife was taking pics to send to her friend in NYC who loves that shit. She snaps a nice pic, you could see for miles. She said, with awe in her voice, "This looks like a PHOTOGRAPH!", I told her that it was and she took it herself. Got tone at first but she lightened up quick. Said she meant to say postcard. I just laughed.

  8. Saw a truck thursday while driving home near OKC. Tribal plates, otherwise he'd have no shot. "N8tive", also had a sticker on the back window of his regular cab Sierra. "War Pony" with a dreamcatcher in it. Topped it off with an ou sticker.

Exact same thing with my grandfather.  A few years ago a kid at his church was doing a project interviewing WWII vets.  He recorded the interviews.  When we watched it we were like ho lee fuck.

My uncle told me that my grandfather would only speak about the war with his war buddies. He told nothing to his four sons and died in his sleep way too soon at age 55. I was born 4 months later, never got to know him. Very unfortunate for me.

Also, I remember going to Wrigley 5 years ago or so and going to a bar in Wrigleyville called "Sluggers".  My buddy comes back from what I thought was the pisser and says, "you won't believe what they have upstairs!"  I said "Strippers?"  He said, "Better."  I said "Better than strippers?  No way!"  So we go upstairs and they have 3 or 4 batting cages with mechanical pitching machines throwing heat.  In a bar.  With lots of drunks.  I was in heaven, but also flummoxed, as we would more likely have midget tossing than this in CA for liability reasons.  Amazing.

Csb/ Walked by Sluggers after a game in '95, I was on vacation so I didn't know anything about the city. My host (woman) said "Yeah, Sluggers is a big-time gay bar", as we walked by. /Csb.

  11. I got the iron-on. Turns out, it's a vintage 1977 iron-on, not a reproduction. It was in amazing shape, looked brand new. I bought a blank shirt that looks close enough to the shirt I had as a kid and took everything to a local embroidery/uniform shop. The lady said she'd do the best she could but she wasn't sure how it would turn out, just because of the age of the iron-on. Well, it turned out pretty good. There are a couple of spots that didn't adhere but that's to be expected IMO. It makes the shirt have a vintage look to it, like it's broken in already. I'm pleased with it.

Sometimes things go great. My mom loved my wife dearly and was so proud I had married a successful doctor. Only she isn't..... poor mom, dementia sucks. She did love Mrs. Shooter dearly though.

    God Bless you mom....

So you married a shitty doctor? That's still pretty cool.

Where'd you get the water buffalo horn? My two are insanely heavy chewers and these are the only things that last, and I've never had one that smelled. We've also had luck with really thick rope toys.

I got them on Amazon. The other thing I didn't like about them, besides the smell, was how they splinter when he chews them. I am worried he'll eat a sharp piece and tear up his innards.
