Was pops in a medical setting? Those folks don't play by the normal rules.

As a matter of fact, he was. Started off as an ENT tech, retired as head of nursing services. I always saw him follow protocol at the hospital, though. He did 26 years, he wasn't one to cut corners.

  2. Hoosiers - When the pastor walks in front of the team before the championship game "And David picked up a rock and slung it..". Instant blubbering. My dad's from Indiana and I've heard him talk about the high school tourney all of my life.

Ratatouille - When the food critic eats the ratatouille and flashes back to his mom, making him his favorite meals. My mom died the year it was released and she was the greatest cook. My kids were 6 years old at the time and after that one viewing, I've never watched it again and I never will. It cut me to the bone.

Braveheart - The battle at the end, "They fought like warrior-poets".

  3. I grew up a USAF brat, so I learned early that making friends didn't usually end well. They'd move away or I would. I graduated HS over 25 years ago, I only have one friend left from those days that I talk to and he's retired in Alaska. Just Facebook posts a couple of times a month.

I have 2 best friends that I met on the job when we were all 19. Been friends through marriages, a divorce, parents dying, etc. I'd give either one the shirt off of my back. We don't get to hang out as much, family commitments or what have you. But when we do, it's the best. No gay shit, though.

The skin was bright red as blood had been sucked to the surface by the pressure. Cows were like empty sacks of bones as we walked by them.

I've lived in Oklahoma for the last 30+ years, so I've gotten used to dealing with tornados. The May 3rd 1999 monster was the worst. Still the biggest thing I've ever seen in real life. When it hit Tinker AFB, it went right through the horse stables. A sheriff's deputy I knew that worked the aftermath said they had to put down any horses that weren't killed during the storm, as the surviving animals had their eyeballs sucked out of their heads from the pressure. I guess they were running around blind and freaking out. Just thinking about it gives me the creeps.

I know it's coming but they need to hurry up and offer a 6 ft bed in a crew cab.

Also really wish they would put the shifter on the column (or a dash dial like the Ram) to free up more console space in these cramped mid size trucks.

Last year, I bought a bare-bones 2014 F150 regular cab with a column shifter. I didn't realize how much I had missed it, it's so great.

  6. Watching the news, a Ford ad came on:

Me: Hey, explorers at 0% for 72 months, not bad.

Her: Well, then you have to pay that huge balloon payment at the end.

    Me: This isn't a lease, it's a 72 month loan. You won't have a balloon payment.

    Her: I know.

    Facepalm and out.

A polo shirt? You suck at giving yourself gifts almost as badly as she does.

I usually buy what I want, when I want. I don't have to wait for a special occasion to get something for myself. Since I don't need to bide my time for a "special gift", I just get something I can use. Maybe a shirt, maybe a book.

Last night I go upstairs and see a light on in the guest room. We haven’t been upstairs all day long and for some reason my brain goes to paranoia state and my thought is someone has been up here that is up to no good. We just binge watched a crime thriller so that probably had something to do with it.

I walk in and the light is coming from the closet. I open the door ready to take a swing if need be and of course nothing there. I realize the wife, shocker, left the damn light on for god knows how long.

I’m about to turn off the light and see a stack of books sitting on the main shelf right in front of me in broad daylight, er, closet light. I see the first couple of titles and they look like books I would really enjoy, but I’ve never seen them before. My FIL on occasion brings me books he recommends and since this was in the guest closet, I think maybe he brought me some on his last visit and forgot to give them to me.

I turn off the light, go downstairs, and inquire about said books and receive the wrath of God from the wife for spoiling Christmas and not remembering that she had told me not to go into that closet. She very well could have told me that, but dammit I forgot. You ever forget? It happened to me.

TL;dr: Wife could’ve avoided me finding my Christmas presents by turning off the got damn lights and halfway attempting to hide the presents instead of leaving them out in the open.

Your wife buys you gifts? My wife tells me to buy myself something so that I can give it to her to give to me for Christmas/birthday. Whatever, no big deal. But for my birthday this year, I bought a polo shirt and gave it to her, said "Give me this for my b-day.". My b-day arrives a couple of weeks later and as the kids were giving me gifts, wife says, "Gee, I wish I had a gift to give you". I had to dig out the gift from her pile of clean clothes and give it to myself (again).

I don’t like the beach either.

More generally, I don’t understand the point of vacations where you don’t do anything. Why would I pay good money to go sit somewhere else and do nothing? I can do that for free at home.

I want to go somewhere and see new scenery, visit historical sites, do things I can’t do back home.

    Brother....?

  10. Anyone want a new 1966-77 Ford Bronco? Only cost you 100k+

For anyone who loves the original Ford Bronco, we have some fantastic news for you. Gateway Broncos and Ford have just reached a licensing agreement that allows Gateway to build limited numbers of 1966-77 Broncos. This isn't just some cheesy take on the original Bronco either. Gateway is building these trucks with Ford's blessing, and they come with up to a five-year bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Gateway was started by Seth Burgett in 2016 as a Bronco restoration company, but it's quickly grown into something much more than that. We've seen recreations like the Icon Bronco, but nobody has this kind of an agreement with Ford to remake the vehicle. These new trucks from Gateway won't just be restored, but rather, they're going to be crafted with new metal all around. If you want, Gateway will build you an entirely new body and frame. That's right, no donor car or scrapping necessary. Every last bit of the vehicle can be brand new, just as Ford intended when they rolled into the world in 1966. However, the option of restoring an existing vehicle or putting a new body onto a vintage frame remains.

To begin, Gateway will offer three models of the Bronco it calls the Fuelie, Coyote Edition and Modern Day Warrior. These range in price from $120,000-$180,000. Gateway is improving upon original Broncos with new technology, in addition to making them appear original. The Coyote Edition gets a Ford 5.0-liter V8 predictably, as does the Modern Day Warrior model. The Fuelie makes do with a 347 Stroker. Four-wheel disc brakes from Willwood are included to make stopping the now-faster truck less stressful. Noise and vibration reductions are engineered into the new vehicle too.

One could draw comparisons with Singer 911s, but these guys are even different from them. Gateway is literally adding first-generation Broncos to the road, and not just bringing back to life what has already existed for half a century. The caveat with this one is the new technology being put into them. There's certainly something to be said for making it exactly the way it was from the factory, but the power and reliability of new engines is tough to argue with.

With the new Bronco(s) on their way, excitement around the model name is building to a fevered pitch. If the new one isn't exactly your cup of tea when it's eventually revealed, options abound. That is, if you have the princely sums of cash Gateway Broncos is asking — the company says it expects to build four vehicles per month in 2019.
