  1. For point of reference, in 2011 the last 100 degree day didn’t come until September 29th.
  2. Ummm...most of her district fucked her, so I think you may be overestimating that part.
  3. Do they talk about anything else on that site besides the Longhorns?
  4. You see, this is where you lose a lot of people with your argument. There are a lot of people that don't mind change, and don't mind spending money to be great. The problem those people have isn't with change in and of itself, it is the idea of trying to be great and spend that money when there are glaring fucking holes in the current city. But you just choose to ignore that and focus on your same old, tired Todd and Bob jokes. Having a world class library is great. But spending that much money on a library at a time when there are massive homeless problems, massive infrastructure problems, massive labor contract problems and even more massive problems in public safety response, is flat out ridiculous That would be akin to spending extra money on your credit card to buy some new jewelry and wonder why your kids are still hungry and you live in a shithole. You just want to associate people that don't want to spend money freely on frivolous shit as people that are "opposed to change".
  5. shifty little bastards, aren't they?
  6. What do you mean? The $50M to repair/replace the Redbud bridge, that still hasn't begun, isn't helping you in your day-to-day life?
  7. I am not, and have never said, that it is not going to happen. I am just pointing out that it has been "imminent" for like two decades. Maybe it falls tomorrow? Who knows? Maybe Pooh Bear manipulates it harder and they hang on for 10 more years.
  8. If the cars can only go 2.7 mph, the fatality rates will plummet. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
  9. The road markings in this town have gone to complete shit in the last five years and it is readily apparent all over town. Which is ironic since those markings are basically a requirement for self driving and driverless cars to be able to maneuver correctly. And Austin has become one of the primary testing grounds for those vehicles. But hey, we have a super duper library.
  10. Maybe I am missing the satire, but teachers retirement is definitely not "more than enough to live off of". My mother taught in different school districts for 23 years and her monthly retirement check from TRS is like $2200.
  11. I think I have been hearing his for the last 20 years. It ranks up there with the aggies always being one year away from winning a National Championship.
  12. That's probably more to do with their kids being back in school than the weather. But it's your dream so make it as big as you want it.
  13. It says "hundreds OR thousands in the past couple of weeks", not hundreds OF thousands. Hundreds or thousands in a couple of weeks is really not that much difference from the regular casualty rate of the entire war.
  14. Just find any thread that discusses rice farmers in Wharton County and you will see that no one on Surly gives a shit about senior water rights, and firmly believe that the people trying to protect their senior rights are all assholes and should be put out of business with no legal or financial recourse.
  15. I feel certain that there is a thread for the topic of Robinhood that does not have to hijack the Austin thread.
  16. But the tank can withstand a palm tree falling on it.
  17. This is setting up perfectly to be the justification for Jimbo needing "one more year". Preseason injuries just ruined the season. If not for the injuries, they would have obviously been in the playoffs.
  18. I’m on a golf trip on Cedar Creek reservoir, north of Corsicana. The current temp, at 7:15 pm, is 102. “Feels like” 109. Earlier is was 112. Fuckabunchofthis.
  19. I wish we had some sort of Crystal Ball score for Zeihan's predictions to see how often he is proven right. Because it seems like his doom and gloom scenarios rarely come to fruition.
  20. I mean it is a shitty thing to do and it would hurt the immediate neighbor, but to say that this would affect Lake Travis in any noticeable way is a stretch. This proposed dam will hold TWELVE acre feet of water. Lake Travis, when full, holds 1,115,076 acre feet of water.
  21. Well if that guy sitting in the Ikea furniture and fake plants says it, I guess it gonna happen.
  22. Well they certainly don't lie cheat or steal, so you know his application is completely on the up-and-up.
