  1. guaranteed big NIL and starter / star role with no restrictions on shot selection.
  2. Onyema deserves to start unless he falls flat and Shed flips the switch on
  3. Can’t effectively contest the 3 or prevent the easy layup … defense looks like it’s junior high AAU level
  4. And following that on offense we planned or allowed Johnson to take an off balance double teamed 3 pointer with just under a minute left to seal the loss … frustrating If our coaching in crunch time is to let Johnson make something difficult happen, we need to scrap the coaching staff at seasons end … if Johnson is add libbing and not running plays, he needs a strong dose of the hard coaching rather than the have fun and be yourself variety
  5. Good god horns, gotta contest the fucking layups on defense…
  6. Is his recovery from surgery in time to practice a high likelihood?
  7. I think Terry needs to go to the Chris Beard summer coaching seminar where they cover defensive fundamentals. As for offense, we run simplified pick and roll and iso sets that don't work very well in crunch time when we need a decent look at the basket. It's confounding that he cannot implement some effective options for guys to pop open when Johnson is getting double-teamed ... perhaps he's trying and Johnson isn't running what they want. Shed and Onyema are not earning their NIL. Time to give Kent and our freshman bigs (Codie and Vinson?) more minutes. Johnson needs some tough coaching about shot selection, game management, and technique and effort on defense.
  8. We are in love with the long shot at the moment … gotta get to the rims and maybe draw some fouls to mix it up
  9. Pope just cooked that long sleeve wearing booger eating aggie kid
  10. it's nice to have the three point weapon for a change, but we need to continue work on moving to ball to get better looks on those and taking advantage of drives and drop offs to the rolling man when the threes are being overplayed on defense by opponents.
  11. Johnson is hitting some difficult shots which is nice I guess for locking in a win against a cupcake, but I was hoping to see more the style of off ball movement and screening with lots of ball movement that we’ve seen the past few games in his absence …. It’s been a lot of 4 out with one guy trying isolation instead when Johnson’s on the floor. Johnson is a highly skilled player, but he’s young and needs some reminding about the hard shots being there at the end of the shot clock if we need one after trying to get an higher percentage open look first. Not seeing any meaningful minutes for Codie or Pryor who have earned more work in these types of games. I guess Kent needs their minutes to get back on the court. Maybe we’re just keeping it basic so as not to give the upcoming conference opponents too much to scout. Overall we’ve looked better since the UConn as whopping (granted against shittier competition)… interested to see how they show against the Aggies in a few days
  12. He was a little dinged up vs UCONN so they’re getting him extra rest while we play a couple of these creampuffs on the schedule
  13. With the interior defense and rebounding void we have, making the tournament would be a victory. That said, roster building is on the coach. We didn't need an all conference center or power forward, just a couple guys that could come in and do the dirty work. Instead we are a team of large guards/small forwards. I am somewhat optimistic about our point play improving, but our center play is dreadful and will spell our doom when we get into the SEC games, absent some unanticipated, sudden improvement.
  14. I got no big complaints about this game since the team did what it needed to and got lots of playing time for guys that hadn’t scored nor played much this year … good scrimmage … I’d prefer this game much earlier in the season and a real challenge this close before conference starts but it is what it is. They seemed pretty unselfish without Johnson on the court and it looked good (granted against a weak ass team)
  15. Definitely a game where we can try to get some of our spot role players some minutes early to see if they can contribute during the conference gauntlet
  16. Onyema has a history of DNAs and primarily poor and forgettable performances at Texas but he’s in better shape this year and doesn’t seem to be completely dumbfounded by the speed and physicality of the game at the top level… he has been consistently better than Shed in just about every category and should be tossed a start against one of the next pre-conference weak teams we play as a reward and message to both he and Shed about what is expected. Shed needs to focus on defense (especially how to play the screens) and rebounding basics … him lingering out of the paint for more than a flash out against a guard is inexcusable and his boxing out, aggression and base/balance for rebounds are piss poor for a guy with his resume and size in a big boy conference
  17. Kaluma and Johnson are good but force stuff sometimes when the shouldn’t … our PG options are very inconsistent but seems like there’s decent promise there if they get more comfortable and confident Our center play is a huge disappointment … I remembered Shedrick being injured the past couple years but when he was in he seemed like a better player than he’s showing healthy this year. He’s playing like a guy who deserves maybe 10-15 minutes a game but is getting 30+ while putting up embarrassingly weak resistance on defense and no rebounding presence If a third double digit scorer doesn’t surface soon and Shed’s defense, game iq, and overall rebounding dont improve soon, we probably don’t make the tournament
  18. In 15 seconds Hurley just described exactly what we are trying to do on defense and how using basics are getting them an “open shot every time down the court”.
  19. Having weaver guarding their center in the paint for an extended period without screaming at somebody to haul ass over to switch out with him is borderline coaching malpractice
  20. This is such a cake walk for UConn so far Hurley hasn’t even frowned or raised his voice yet
  21. It’s like we switch everything off a screen on defense and every coach with a pulse this year is exploiting that for easy buckets inside … when Shed switches to a smaller guy he sags in no mans land and doesn’t aggressively press or prevent the easy pass to the rolling man
  22. Gotta get about 8 points and 10-12 boards between the 2 of them to beat the top 50% of SEC teams on the road
