  1. Looks like both both teams adopted the Iowa offense from last year
  2. something like 35-7 or 35-10 nearing the 4th quarter before we completely open the depth chart. My guess is final score will be something like 42/45 to 17.
  3. RT definitely took longer than I'd ilke to give Weaver the minutes he earned and continued to lean on a dud (Horton) with hopes that his one or two high scoring games were the norm rather than the exception. Weaver was a major contributor even when he was not scoring points.
  4. Yes… even free agent pro players stick with a team longer than college mercenaries nowadays
  5. It's probably the glass half empty side of me, but when I think of Doj, my mind always thinks of how poor his outside shooting and free throw shooting was for a guard. There were times when the other team could basically not defend him outside the paint or hack him on drives late in the game. I imagine he became a better shooter during his pro career and like having him as a team mentor for his experience in that regard, but as a Texas guard, I can't recall him doing anything that made me think he was anything more than a backup, role player who couldn't shoot the ball.
  6. If shedrick can stay relatively healthy and codie, pryor and/or vinson can provide a handful of meaningful lunchpail minutes a game defending and rebounding, this team could exceed what are already positive expectations. This is a very deep team and RT has no excuse having to ride with a guy having a shitty game. He will need to get a lot of guys on the court against the scrub teams to let them get acclimated and mentally ready to answer the call during conference play.
  7. We might have a couple guys on the roster we can do occasional ISO plays with, but that should be the situational/match-up, limited exception not the primary gameplan.
  8. The roster looks seasoned, deep, and promising. It's one that a good coach should be able to make the tournament with as a decent seed. Roster management / substitutions will be important, as will scheming players getting the ball where they are most effective. I'd like to see a big upswing in passing this year. Abmas and Hunter dribbled way too much at times and when they did pass, they were underwhelming. How quick they gel with one another on the court will be important. I think Rodney did a good job pulling a good haul from the portal... no real excuse for a step backwards this year or finishing outside the top 1/3 of the SEC.
  9. I could care less who starts as long as the guys that are bringing it are on the court when it matter most
  10. I’ll settle for a 6’7” dude that wants rebounds and doesn’t shy from contact over some 6’10” who wants shoot threes and can’t box out.
  11. Pretty shitty production skills with all the video tricks available nowadays
  12. Hawkins isn’t my first choice. He’s not an inside presence on either end of the court..:might as well be 6’5” as he likes to hog the ball and shoot long threes. I’d be happy at this point with he Sac St and Youngstown guys as they look to be physical
  13. I wanted Toppin but I’ll settle for a couple of large bodies who are active on the boards and can keep opponents honest in the paint. If we don’t get at least one 6’9” ish guy who can do some lunchpail work we are going to get roughed up in close games where timely rebounding, altering an interior shot, and/or a couple putback buckets will be the deciding factor We don’t really need a big who leads the team in scoring (though it could make us a solid second weekend tourney candidate) but we damn well need one who is not 180 lbs and in love with the 3 point line
  14. She kind of reminds me of a female Trae Young (albeit with a better long-range shooting percentage). I like her motor, passing and aggressiveness. I am not a fan of her soft defense and tendency to complain so much to refs. She's going to get her shots up and her team will live and die by that. Right now, she's in deep water acclimating to the athleticism and physicality of defenders. Perhaps once she gets more comfortable with teammates, her turnovers will drop and she can take advantage of overly aggressive defenders. Right now, she is forcing things that worked in high school and college with forgettable performances. She's definitely WNBA material (based on my very limited firsthand observations of WNBA games), but the press needs to take its foot off the praise gas a bit as that's doing her no favors with her peers.
  15. In other news, the primary big we are targeting in the portal (JT Toppin) just had a good showing in a scrimmage at yesterday's NBA combine. Looks like he could play himself into the 2nd round so it will come down to how bad he wants to play in the NBA versus NIL and the chance of improving his stock.
  16. Toppin and the Utah big would be a good big man haul. Toppin and the Turkish guy from UCLA (who didn't exactly have an impressive year) would fine as long as the later doesn't shy away from crashing the boards and can provide a little interior defense. I read that we might also be kicking the tires on Trevon Brazile. If that's true, he could provide some instant familiarity/chemistry with Mark and great PF/C flexibility. I admittedly have no idea if any of these guys have character red flags.
  17. Both those guys would add some good depth and competition … but if it’s just one I’ll take the NM guy
  18. next year versus UCONN in Austin should provide a good coaching barometer/comparison since both Hurley and Terry will be retooling most of their rosters.
  19. Owens and Arch look a lot more serious and tuned in than Ewers did … Ewers is a quiet guy who can be mistaken as nonchalant at times but today he didn’t look like the clear starter at QB
  20. What about the possibility the kid got cold feet, flaked or demanded some crazy NIL? Kids change their mind… especially with money in the equation and people in their ears
  21. Scott never stepped on campus, unlike Tyson Chris Johnson may be a better comparison
  22. Saw this guy playing on ESPN+ a few games... He's a fast aggressive rebounder with a great vertical. I'd take him in a heartbeat, though he's not gonna carry a large load on offense.
