  1. McCartney's Flaming Pie put an end to a string of really insipid work through the 80s. Some would argue Flowers in the Dirt was the return to Macca form, but I don't think it holds up as well. McCartney has essentially been on a non-stop run since Flaming Pie of really good, thoughtful, catchy and creative stuff. Sticking with ex-Beatles, George Harrison's Cloud 9 is a no-brainer. As far as Cheap Trick goes, I like the pick above but would list Bang, Zoom, Crazy, Hello as mine. That album sounds like vintage CT and kicks all kinds of ass. But Johnny Cash's American Recordings is the clear runaway winner.
  2. I have been saying for 8 years that the US presidential elections have been mirroring those in South Africa. Jacob Zuma was elected in SA just a few years before Trump and was a thuggish, corrupt, greedy SOB who used political capital and appealed to the uneducated masses. He tried to overthrow a re-election loss. He had supporters riot and loot. He was indicted on several serious charges and was booted out of office. Now (as of today, this minute) SA election returns show that his previous party (the ANC) will no longer have a majority -- unthinkable just a few years ago, given that it's the party of Mandela and the main Black South African's party -- because Zuma broke off and created his own MAGA-like party. He's gotten about 15% of the vote. It's destroyed the ANC majority, but has also splintered the Black South African vote tremendously. When Trump loses in November, I don't see how the same thing doesn't happen here. He'll have an idiotic MAGA party and the Republican Party will splinter. I can't wait.
  3. I realize that his base will excuse away the convictions and convince themselves that he’s the real victim. But when are they going to get tired of his constant insipid whining? Every time he opens his mouth he is complaining and crying about being wronged. It’s insufferable. Fucking whiny snowflake.
  4. truth And kudos to Lefau -- we want those north shore kids from Kahuku, as well as the west side guys from Waianae. Those dudes do not mess around.
  5. Shoeless hippie vs deer. That may be the least hood fight I've ever seen.
  6. Taking a walk in the evening with the dog and wife, light breeze, kids playing basketball in driveways, people having dinners and drinks on patios, bugs chirping, light still in the sky at 8pm. Summertime.
  7. "We're gonna run it" is fucking awesome.
  8. When Dabo left Alabama as the wide receivers coordinator to become Clemson's wide receiver coordinator, was that quitting or winning? I'm confused.
  9. I was just thinking on the way to work today what a mess Clemson is with him at the reins, totally ignoring the portal. I'd be so pissed if I was a Clemson fan, knowing that I'd be stuck with this fucking guy and all of his holier than thou hypocritical bullshit, and knowing we are headed down a long slide into shitsville. But since I'm not a Clemson fan, haha. Enjoy irrelevancy.
  10. I don't get it. I thought the SEC was murderer's row top to bottom, according to aggy, and that we couldn't possibly handle the week-to-week grind. But now we're lucky to have such an easy SEC slate, and so it's terribly unfair to all other teams that we've been gifted this patsy schedule. Pretzel logic indeed.
  11. Saw CSS in Denver last night. They are such a blast. Described by some as Brazil's B-52's, but they had a harder edge live. They are super endearing and hilarious. The singer (Lovefoxx) introduced a song called Fuck Everything saying it was about how much they love pizza. They also did a mashup of Sleater-Kinney and Jennifer Lopez. Good times. IMG_6580.MOV
  12. That might've been the show where Kurt and the security guy got into it. Kurt being Kurt pushed his guitar into the security guy's face during a whole chaotic melee after jumping into the crowd, and the security guy freaked and starting wailing on him. Immediately Dave and Krist jumped in and pulled the guy off.

  14. You'd be crazy to drive it in the Texas summertime! Fortunately I don't have that issue, so I can enjoy the amazement in my kids as they experience a roll start, the solitude of a car without any alarms or beeps, and the constant smiles and shakas I get whenever I take Blue Steel out on the road. It's a great ride. It's also pretty cool how many conversations it starts -- usually along the lines of "I used to drive one of those" or "my uncle had one back in 1968" or whatever. People take pictures of it all the time, sometimes just the car and sometimes smiling and posing next to it. It just seems to brighten peoples' days to see it. Low tech still delivers.
  15. My car is on the right, still holding its own against new tech. Absolutely nothing digital in that car whatsoever. Glorious.
  16. No, that only happens at Texas.
  17. It actually doesn't suck that it is all about money. That is one of Texas’ superpowers. We want it all about money.
  18. "Video shows moment dam collapsed at newly renamed Dunlap River"
  19. I get all of the arguments about playing time, sitting, etc...but you have to be a real fucking idiot to turn down an offer from Texas to play running back.
  20. My guests and kids can evacuate like savages for all I care.
  21. For your master bath, Toto washlet w heated seat, heated water, and dryer. $400. It's the clubhouse leader for a reason, and will give you all of the comforts and niceties of the Japanese bidets. That was an immediate upgrade after our trip to Japan last fall. For the other bathrooms, anything in the $75+ range will be fine. BTW Japan is amazing.
