  1. Surly Football threads embody the 5 stages of grief. I wake up and see 7-8 new pages of info on this thread and I think, "Cool, some news must have broken." Then I start reading... page 1 (Denial): Surely this first page is just prelude to something interesting and important happening pages 2-3 (Anger): Why in the fuck can't Sidis and Satya stop posting this fucking Debbie downer fucking bullshit??!?!? Where's the fucking 10-yard minimum offense? Who did Joey McGuire fuck or kill to get all of the media knob-slobbing?!? Why isn't there any actual goddamn football information???? pages 4-5 (Bargaining): Surely all six pages can't be this regarded. Maybe if I get a couple more pages in, the good stuff will appear. page 5 (Depression): Welp. pages 7-8 (Acceptance): I ain't getting shit done at work anyway, so what the hell. Time to really dig into Hudson Card's long and storied Texas career...
  2. Lotta brain power over there in the bayou.
  3. I worked at the Erwin Center during undergrad, and I met him several times during basketball games. He didn't have to be nice to me -- or to anyone -- but he always was to me, and to everyone. Cut from a different cloth. RIP.
  4. At the risk of sounding like aggy, Hawaii really is a unique place that can't really be understood unless you live there. I've lived in multiple cities, states, and countries and the Hawaiian resilience and communal approach is unlike anything I've experienced anywhere else in the world. Also, anyone spouting off their conspiracy theories can fuck right off. There's no fucking conspiracy. Any amount of time a conspiracy theorist spends spewing their bullshit on TikTok is time that they could actually be putting to use helping the situation -- organizing donations, volunteering time, etc.
  5. All the while breathing smoke and fending off ash and embers, and 80 mph winds, and hypothermia. And night ocean terror. People who are like "why not just jump into the ocean? Problem solved!" have absolutely no clue how horrifying that ordeal would be, or how lucky the survivors are. Many accounts of people (injured, out of shape, elderly, young) just floating out to the night sea never to be seen again.
  6. It's posted on the first page of the thread. Hawaii Community Foundation will give 100% of all funds to victims. They will take no overhead. They are a pillar organization in Hawaii. My wife works closely with them and knows how they work with local communities (and she works with a bunch of other orgs that she is not recommending). Every amount helps and will go directly to victims: https://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/maui-strong
  7. He will have a great year. Gavin and Drake are his competition, and the sooner's schedule is trash. However, he won't have the kind of great year that Worthy, AD, Neyor, or JWhitt will have. Which is why his second-tier ass left.
  8. ou will look fine this year simply because their schedule is absolute ass. They dodge everyone at the top of the Big 12 except us. Fortunately that will build false hope and confidence there, and then when the SEC grind begins they will be truly fucked.
  9. I want to quote this -- this is the best place to donate. HCF will give 100% of all funds directly to victims and restoration. They will not take anything for operating or admin costs. My wife works closely with HCF and with many families in Maui, and she knows firsthand that HCF will do right by any money donated. Please give what you can.
  10. My wife reminded me that the last time she went through her mom's pantry and cleaned it out, there were spices and other things that had been expired for more than 15 years. What's amazing is that her parents had moved at least 3 times during that 15 years, so not only were the spices etc expired, but she had actually packed them, moved them, and unpacked them at least 3 times.
  11. If this is true, and the Texas NIL did offer enough life-changing money for CS to choose us, then I say thank God and it's about damn time. We are finally in a position to put our biggest strengths -- money, donors, and alumni networks -- to good use. Fuck the low rent SEC. And honestly if the money is going to help his family manage his little brother's challenges, even more reason to celebrate. Hook 'em.
  12. Well, we now know Simmons is still alive and, potentially, leaving his house. Quality intel.
  13. maybe that explains why van Buren was such a goddamn fucking disgraceful shitstain (I know nothing about van Buren)
  14. Anyone who uses the word "right?" at the end of every sentence. Anyone who walks into my office and says "I love what you've done with the place." Anyone who brings two large dogs to work and lets them run free among the offices. PS - I hate my co-worker.
  15. I've gotten most of my weekend shit done during Longhorn football games for the past 12+ years because I've been either too nervous or too pissed to just sit and watch the games. Lotta nervous energy. I'm really hoping for some nice old fashioned ass kicking this fall so I can laze around, drink, and watch the game in peace. Bonus will be not terrifying my pets and children when I scream at the television.
  16. I can't. My probation officer won't let me. I wasn't saying anything about that specific serial pedophile. He may well have a bent brain. I was responding to the comment that "they can't be cured," which was true for a long time but is no longer an absolute truth. I work in mental health, and although this isn't my area I have many colleagues on the academic and treatment sides that do good effective work reducing recidivism with sexual offenders.
