  1. This isn't an absolute. Offenders of all types, sexual and non-sexual, can change. Treatment for sex offenders can be effective, depending on the person, circumstances, treatment modality, etc.
  2. I mean seriously, how is that FDNY helmet not just some sort of practical joke?
  3. Yeah, I was fortunate (?) that when my dad had about a year left from his terminal illness that his mind stayed sharp enough and I had enough time to go through the house, room by room, and talk to him about what was what. It was really good to have that opportunity. Stuff I thought was important was actually useless, and stuff I thought was meaningless was actually important for sentimental reasons. I honestly don't remember a lot of what he said about this or that, but the time together was valuable and the reality is that I look back on that time together fondly, even in the midst of the hell and agony surrounding it.
  4. My in-laws go to Dairy Queen with a bunch of other olds, take up several tables, and order a few kid's meals between them. Not enough for everyone to have their own, just a few to share. And only on Monday evenings because that's when they get the weekly senior discount. What a bunch of assholes. And I can't wait to do the same thing when I get to that point.
  5. I sent my wife that Neyor pic. It'll either get her in the mood for later, or she will no longer have interest in me. It's a gamble.
  6. That was the worst police dog I've ever seen. Attacks the cop (relentlessly) and then runs past the perp into the woods, only to begin attacking the perp after he's already apprehended.
  7. Makes quidditch players look like fucking ironman triathletes
  8. This might be the thread winner
  9. There are some amazing things about Central Texas, many have been mentioned. The lakes, the food, the music, HEB, others. I spent the first 20+ years of my life there, and graduated from UT with all of my friends. All but one have moved out of state and are never looking back (including me). I miss those great things, and at one point we thought about moving back to central Texas, but those things aren't worth it anymore. Austin used to be a bit of an oasis from the rest of Texas, but not anymore. Hell, my sister is as "Austin-proud" as anyone I've ever met, and she's packing up and relocating to New Mexico. The politics, the heat, the business yes / citizen no stance...it's just become an increasingly bad place to live. We visit our families a couple of times a year and then get the hell out. Also surfing sucks, don't come out here and try it 😉
  10. Notification on the Amtrak page. I think I found the cause of the heat-related delay.
  11. My parents passed away long ago, but my in-laws are pretty awesome. FIL grew up growing some wheat and mostly dirt on farm in Kansas and eventually became an international pilot for one of the big three American carriers. MIL beat cancer and is the rock of the family. They are always there for their kids and grandkids. Still it's weird to see them age. When my wife causally mentioned that our daughter asked us for money for the school's book fair, FIL just said "That's because y'all don't go to church enough." Uhhhh....
  12. Superhero is right, his friend is too nice. He's too nice to tell Superhero to fuck off and stop riding him for not attending some bullshit church event.
  13. A few years ago I learned that at South African rugby games, they have people delivering donuts to the crowd. Next level.
