  1. Don't be dumb. Stickers = grass burrs: Goat heads are tougher and grow in drier, hotter desert climates: Cockle burrs grow nearer water, on taller stems and branches, and are irritating but not as excruciatingly painful:
  2. Could be this weekend. Might not though. Could commit early, but might decide to wait. Family might push for something, but perhaps not. Ultimately it's his decision, one that he will make over some amount of time and with potential help from family. Fascinating.
  3. Helmet was infamous for doing drills during rehearsal, as in multiple timing drills to make sure they cut on and off on a dime. Pretty cool.
  4. Saw McCartney last night at MetLife. Last stop on his current tour. Anyone that’s seen him live knows that it’s an all-time great show. I took my daughter so she could experience it — good first concert for her. He of course played a great show with a 3-hour mix of hits and deeper tracks, with everyone singing along to most songs. Watching him play Blackbird on an otherwise empty stage is just out of this world. After a while, Bruce Springsteen joins him on stage and they play Glory Days and I Wanna Be Your Man, and the crowd goes nuts. Later Bon Jovi came out to sing him happy birthday. The show closed with The End and Macca and band jamming with Bruce. It was a badass show.
  5. I'm more interested in the vintage heavy metal t-shirt that Treaty Oak alluded to. That will determine my impression of Quinn. Crue, Ratt, Priest, Dio, Slayer...he's in. Whitesnake, Warrant, Tesla...goodbye forever. What band was it?
  6. That's was the name of my 80s cover band, for real
  7. I was there too. My first concert. 8th grade, and I was sure the police were going to arrest DLR after he dropped the f-word on stage. "You can't say that out loud!" Forward about 7 years later when I was working for the Erwin Center and was posted outside the Van Hagar dressing room. Met Eddie, talked for a long time, and was able to watch him warm up for the show as he sat in a folding chair about 5 feet away from me. He was cool as hell, signed my 5150 album sleeve, and was totally down to earth. My best musical memory and definitely my best brush with celebrity fame. All hail King Edward.
  8. Bowie was massively addicted to cocaine and lost tons of weight during that time. I think it was his "thin white duke" period. He also lost his friendship with Lennon and many others during that time. I think he was quoted as saying "Cocaine is a great way to lose your friends" or something along those lines. Apparently it's also a great way to look like a real-life Skeletor.
  9. Did that kid go from armed robbery to attempted murder when he shot the gun?
  10. Waikiki is not a city. Moreover, my avatar pic was taken about 100 yards off Waikiki Beach. As you can see, it's a real overrated shithole. The mainlander that wrote the article can fuck himself. Actually, never mind. Surfing sucks, don't try it. And Waikiki sucks too, so no need to visit.
  11. Oh yeah? Well I won't be surprised by any number between 15 and 40, so take that.
  12. Recent shows: Ministry -- loud, fun, Melvins were a great opener, setlist was very political as usual, Al with more energy than I expected: Girl Talk was everything you'd expect -- hot, sweaty, drunken, tons of dancers onstage, bubbles, confetti, beach balls, everybody dancing from opener to closer: Gojira opened for Deftones but I like to think of it as the Gojira show because they were fucking awesome, I am surprised the arena is still standing after the bludgeoning hammer they laid down for an hour: Cradle of Filth was fun, Dani was in good voice and with surprisingly good energy despite a lame crowd: Danzig was totally out of shape but the show was fun, he still preened around like he was 25, no Misfits tunes but still a decent show: Overall Gojira was far and away the best band of those bands. They were tight and deafening and left a crater smoldering after they finished. However the best crowd energy was for Ministry -- they went crazy, the pits were brutal, and there was no one sitting. I know Al hates performing but they did a great job and the crowd was in it 100%. Taking my daughter to see Macca in NYC in a few weeks -- cannot wait. Paul puts on the best shows I've ever seen, and this one won't disappoint. Also have Crue / Leppard, Anthrax / Black Label Society / Hatebreed, and Rammstein on the horizon. So glad shows are back!
  13. You can take the girl out of Miami, but you can't take the Miami out of the girl.
