  1. Mabry rocking 97 as well. It's going to be close. Stay tuned.
  2. I don't know about later in the year, but when I do my long rides on weekend mornings, they feel like a walk in the park comparatively. Come to think of it, riding in the cold kind of sucks too.
  3. During the week my only time to excercise is in the afternoon at the hottest part of the day. Due to injury about the only thing I can do is cycling, which due to my own personal hang ups, I won't do on a stationary bike. Nevertheless, I am able to get in 30 to 45 minutes outside on some more intense hill and sprint type of training. Any more time than that, I feel dangerously overheated. Also, it becomes a logistical problem, as that is the amount of time that my do rags and head band become completely saturated with sweat and I can no longer control the stinging drip onto my eyes. Some days I start out and head down the drive only to be hit in the face with a hot wind of death and then "nope" out and go watch tv, preferably some thing with some cold wintery scenery. The wife and kids rock climb at the gym in ac comfort.
  4. Back in college, the Spuds McKenzie hype had, at one point, reached it's logical and useful marketing life, but Bud Light just kept beating that horse. In a drunken revolt, my buddies and I fashioned a new Bud Light mascot: Skeets McGillicudy, named after my friend's grey tabby cat Skeeter and erroneously given Lucille Ball's maiden birth last name. (Her maiden name was Ball and her mother's maiden name was Hunt)
  5. Wunderground has Austin at 99/73 one week from Wed. Looks like a weak front based on the wind. Will probably fizzle in Oklahoma with the dry air air filtering in for a 109/80 day in Austin.
  6. My Wally Pryor CSB: I was in LHB back in the mid to late 80's (trumpet), and in addition to the the volunteer gigs we had to do, every once in awhile something came up where we got paid. I was enlisted to go play the "call to the post" at some charity "Kentucky Derby" fake gambling party at the Austin Country Club. It paid $100 plus food and booze and that was a lot of money for a college student back then, so I took the gig. So I wrangled up a tux and complimented it with my LHB colonel Sanders clip on for the chef's kiss. My only job was to go around the club and play the call to the post for about the first 45 minutes of the event while the guest were arriving and mingling. I got fed before the event along with the staff, but I was allowed to eat at the guest tables, I guess because I was wearing a tux. Before I knew it, I had a fresh mint julip in my hand and they just kept coming. So when the time came, I went and did my job hammered on mint julips. The only problem was is that I wanted to keep drinking, and the only way to do that was to keep playing... and I did as only a desperate college student could. So eventually, they asked me to stop, and me and the remnants of my last mint julip were escorted out of the ball room to the back patio. There sitting on the couch all alone was an equally hammered Wally Pryor. Wally, no doubt instantly recognized my colonel Sanders clip on and with a far off bourbon drunk look in his eye shouted "heeeeeeeeey uuup" and the threw me a wobbly hook 'em. Seeing I had made a new friend, I grabbed a chair opposite Wally and responded "Is there a way a guy can get a drink around here?" Seeing a kindred spirit, Wally obliged and we sat out there until dark bull shitting and drinking. Wally had to go when a couple of his handlers came out and cut him off because he apparently had a habit of getting over served at these type of things when he had an audience. The same gig came up a year later, but for some reason I was not selected.
  7. Since the 2011 vs 2023 discussion has now entered Emmitt Smith v Barry Sanders territory, I have provided a helpful link from KXAN with some of the blow by blow details from 2011 for the Surly analyst to pour over. For Austin only. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.kxan.com/weather/ten-years-ago-austins-hottest-summer-wraps-up/amp/
  8. Just rewatched last year's game. Missed chip shot. Blown safety call. Missed sack on Young. Missed fast mask on KR. Holding on the long run. Plus a bunch of other plays, any one of which could have meant the w. Go beat their asses this year.
  9. I don't have a bike rack on my truck because I put my ride in the camper shell. I have a cab high shell and had been transporting by removing the front wheel and lowering the seat. Of course, to lower the seat I need to remove the rear light and to remove the wheel, I had to remove the front light mount, and then load the bike onto it's fork mount etc...and then reverse the process upon arriving at destination. Huge PiA. Since I have windoors on the shell I was able to find a remedy that works for trips where my shell is not full. I load the bike unaltered diagonally and rest the drop bars and seat on the shell ledge while turning the front wheel slightly. The cranks and pedals are free. You need the windoor to be able to position the bike easily, but I suppose it could be done without with a little more effort. One could bungee in place, but I don't. Huge time saver and my bike has never moved in transport. Shell locks up and hides cargo and no worries with getting tear ended. This is on a 2013 Tacoma long bed. Worth a try for those with similar or larger set up. Bought the shell for $600 and also highly recommend with or without bike transport.
  10. User name does not check out.
  11. Looks like Mabry and Bergstrom are some of the coolest spots in the city now. Over half of the Wunderground stations are over 110 already.
  12. Possibly could overtake 2011. According to KXAN, we had 76 days over 100 by the end of August and the last 100 degree day was recorded September 29, with 14 days of 90 occurring in September. If this tropical thing doesn't deliver, we will likely be at 71 days at the end of August with no end in sight.
  13. Watch your ass. I bet a MAGA fool on the 2020 election and he has yet to pony up. I gave him plenty of chances to back out, showed him the surveys, explained the effect of Covid, told him Hilary was not running, mid terms etc. He still stepped in it.
  14. Recommend to me a comfortable seat for long rides. I just built my all road Ti bike and the old WTB seat us not cutting it on 50+ mile trips. Not concerned about weight. I have the bib thing worked out, but might need some recs there too. Cost is no object on the bibs. Bike build: Sram Apex mech disc shifters with Ratio 1 12 speed mod. Force 46 tooth cr with force cranks, XPLR 10-44 in back with Force 1 rd. Scribe carbons with 28mm tires for the road set and some shitty alloys with 35mm for the gravel set. Mech disc brakes for easy maintenance. Pics
  15. Husband and wife pairs that shop at Costco and have to discuss every single got dammed purchase like it's life or death. Just throw the bag of frozen berries in fucking cart and move on. ...and the Dutch.
