  1. Looks like somebody took notes on a criminal conspiracy.
  2. It was a bit like this Austin last summer. We got hit with record heat in late June through late July. Then we got showers for weeks on end before returning to the normal August/September spiral of hit death.
  3. Just one? Seems a little like underachieving.
  4. Austin just got it's first real tall wall gym. Mesa Rim. Kids are there 3 days a week plus 2 days at ABP. USA Climbing regional comp is tomorrow. Home gym is more expensive than you think. Exhaust all possible avenues before building.
  5. They will never lose the morning saltwater fishing market.
  6. Yes the Houston people looked quite bedraggled on sat.
  7. MS 150 is in the books. Thanks to those who donated and put in some encouragement rep. Crazy tailwind on Saturday got me 20mph for the day and 5mph tailwind on Saturday helped me get 18.35 mph...crazy good numbers for this guy, who on a good day might get 16mph and who just started cycling 6 months ago. Also 5'-11" and 200 lbs at 56 years old...so get after it surly. If this old man can do it, so can you.
  8. New thread title. Tucker Carlson: Not tonight.
  9. The youth of America also need to take up less dangerous sports than basketball..such as Russian roulette, big wall free soloing, and black Friday shopping for instance.
  10. This will be a giant leap forward in the treatment of the insane gambler.
  11. ....to help end MS. Casting my net wide to help end MS. Also, will post in Bike threads. Mods, please move if in the wrong place. Jiggy-Z is biking the MS 150 at the end of the month. SO this is the opportunity for the Surly 1% to show their quality by donating to the MS Society through my rider account to help end MS. Jiggy-Z has been a member of this board and TOS since 2011ish, and I have never asked for anything except for maybe a hand in putting up a shelter on the Matagorda trip back in 2013. PM me, and I will send you a link to my rider account on the MS Society donation page. They pretty much take every form of payment, and donations start as low as $35.00 up to something more befitting the $urly Elite. Thanks, assholes.

  13. Not really Mountain Biking related, but I thought I would cast my net wide. Also, will post in HELP and Road Bike threads. Mods, please move if in the wrong place. 14. This what it really comes down to. As I posted before the tourney began, RT hire would be all but automatic with final 4 appearance, just because you have to. Anything less than that and feelers are going out. Fortunately, I think CDC had already done his back channeling during the year and post season and had to hope RT performed up to at least seed expectations in the tourney as he had already done well enough in the regular season and conference tournament, given the lack of slam dunk hires available.
  15. Out pouring concrete in the rain and mud this morning. Job security in doing stuff AI can't do and humans don't want to do.
  16. He has already proven he can coach with a talented roster and staff without totally fucking it up, which apparently is more difficult than it would seem. Some head scratching losses costs us the regular season title and a #1 seed, so there is that to consider. Given a number 2 seed, I think the team's performance needs to exceed the expected outcome of elite 8, so Final 4. Even that type of performance would need to be qualified with style points and nothing goofy happening along the way to the #1 and #3 seeds in order for a final 4 appearance to make him a lock. As others have said there are some similarities to the 1989 Michigan team (so far) who lost their coach to Arizona St. right before the tournament. Steve Fischer (who had no head coaching experience)was appointed interim head coach and lead a talented team to the championship. After a couple of tough years, he landed the Fab 5 recruiting class and subsequently made the championship game twice before a slow decline and some scandals which ultimately led to his dismissal in 1997. The two championship game appearances were later vacated, but nobody really cares about that. I would definitely take a Michigan scenario if offered.
  17. After death substantial weight loss occurs.
  18. Wulaw, Good on you for sharing your journey. Down the road when you start choosing different forms of exercise, recognize that just going an working out can get kind of boring, so seek out activities that have some kind of game component to them and also be on the lookout for possible opportunities for joint injury. Back when I was 45, I was up around 200lbs and made some changes, and pretty quickly got down to 175lbs and looked great. I was kind of reveling in all sorts of rediscovered physical abilities that had been dormant since my early 30's. I don't want to say I overdid it, because I was never really pushing myself all that hard, but some garden variety ailments cropped up. Stuff like Achilles tendinitis, pulled calf muscles etc. So I would rest and rehab and wait it out and focus on other body parts that I could work on safely. Thus began a never ending cycle and rotation of injuries that really made things frustrating. Fast forward to my early 50's and I was slowly gaining the weight back almost entirely because I could not find the extra motivation to go play and have fun due to some mild depression because of my injuries and fear of re-injury. So over time my normal weight went from 180lbs for a year or so, then 185 then 190, until you see the 200lb man I am today at age 56. Because you are only in your mid 40's you have time get his right. You really don't need to work out all that hard, so follow your Drs advice on all of that but definitely mix in a lot of flexibility and mobility work, think I wish i had done that would have saved me a lot of trouble. I think rediscovering what your body can do all over again is going to be a huge motivating factor for you. Good luck.
  19. Took that train this summer, except went Oslo to Bergen. There is a bike tour you can take from the high point in the mountains, spend the night somewhere on the way down, take a couple of ferries, and walk, your in Bergen.
  20. Has anybody else's wife become an expert at picking up screws, nails, and flats in their tires? It doesn't happen all that often, maybe every six months or so, but it is baffling to me considering the following. We both drive to all the same places, except I go to my construction yard and job sites almost every day (concrete construction) where that stuff is all over the place and we have taken my Tacoma all over the country. In addition I have been to my parents ranch, a bunch of deer leases, the beach, and other off road locals so many times I have lost count. She is driving around in a Volvo with Michelin's or Pirelli's or whatever which end tire they put on those things and I have some shitty Cooper's all terrains on my truck. Knock on wood, I have not had a flat in the 23 years I have known her. She tries to blame it on construction debris in the road, lol.
  21. Not a huge fan of live oak, but I have done a few brisket with it and they were really good. Just not the best aroma when cooking compared to other stuff that is available. I prefere using mesquite in my fireplace due to the oak smell and the fact that it is much easier to split. I have basically an endless supply of downed and dried mesquite at my parent's ranch. I have taken many trailer loads of it out of there over the years and it never seems to make a dent.
