  1. ou, leading the P5 in manly female cheerleaders....again.
  2. Who said anything about reality. I was just trying to be topical. My true wish for them is to bring Fanchione out of retirement.
  3. Yeah, but those shit stains had two losses already last year when we met them in Dallas. Texas tried to give the game away, then ou tried to give it right back and then Texas gave it back to them, but it was a slow give back. Such a strange game, but more so on this game than either of the other losses had me pissed at Herman. Despite being close games both TCU and Iowa State games had Texas with the ball late with control of its own destiny with very little in the way of gamesmanship or scoring strategy required, not unlike the last Texas drive in last week's game, but Texas could not close the deal. But last year's ou game, Texas had two opportunities to go for two and end it. I'm sure this has been discussed, but the defense was gassed and Texas had ou sux on the ropes and did not take advantage of the situation. Normally I would have played the strategy Texas chose, but it was pretty obvious what was needed and Texas (turtle Tom) did not do it. Such a waste. ou is a quality program and I do not see dominance coming from either team for more than a few years at a time unless one team goes into wandering in the dark for a decade or so. Texas has done that, and now its ou's turn. Texas is 10-14 v, ou in the last 24 games and 15-16-1 going back to 1989. (using selected Texas streaks as the start date to make the numbers better for Texas and not counting the conference championship game). These number would look worse if started on an ou streak. The point is, Texas needs to go on a streak and then Riley needs to move onto the NFL, and ou needs to hire Jimbo.
  4. ou defense has been pretty clutch when it mattered at the end of Tulane, NEB, and WV games with an assist from some offensive ineptitude by those three opponents on their late drives. Texas just needs to take that out of the equation early and often. K State was also very effective against ou on offense. their undoing was the early fumble and turning it over on downs after a 45 yd drive stalled late. K state only punted once. ou never punted and only had one drive not end in points with an interception.
  5. You are thinking of an earlier pass. TCU had that one read pretty well, but it did have a 20-30% chance of converting if he catches it.
  6. In the bowl game he had just a little more time to throw and his receivers were just a bit more open and perhaps his throws were 1/4 step better. Game of inches and all that.
  7. Texas also shot themselves in the foot with motion penalties around the goal line on three occasions I think. Probably cost ourselves at least 4 points on those with the last one costing 3 points on the 4th and one goal line stand. Add those back into scoring and kicking the XP instead of going for 2, puts you comfortably ahead by 3 scores all of which need to be TDs for TCU. Really just a build up of small compounding errors making this game closer than it needed to be given TCU's turn over issues and Bijan's running. Then throw in hitting those open deep passes and get rid of the dropsies and the situation is even better, as you said, but certainly not required for a comfortable win. Against better teams, this will costs Texas. I hate to say it but minus the feeding of Bejan, this was a very Tom Hermanesqe type of game that looked a lot like last years game flow. Reminded me of the end of the WV game.
  8. On replay, a couple or three of costly false starts in goal to go scenarios . Gotta clean that up. All of them potentially costing 4 points each. Between those, some BS PF penalties, Thompson's overthrows, and Xavier's drops, really kept this game much closer than it needed to be given TCU's apple turn overs. Good on TCU, a couple of those fumbles could have been housed if they were not hustling. Saved them some points. Unrelated question on Thompson's INT. Bad decision but do you think he threw it thinking he would get the holding flag? My guess is probably not. One, you don't need to throw it to pick up the penalty like PI. Two, it happened pretty early in the route, so even if he saw it he would have known there was no flag.
  9. Oops. Did not see other thread. Delete thread. Ban user. Carry on.
  10. TCU is over. Since most of you are hungover on aggy tears,I thought I would get this rolling as a public service. This is the place for analysis, speculation, and OU sucking leading up to the time when we have an inevitably locked game thread. Beat the hell out of OU sux!!! Begun, game week has.
  11. Meh. That's about right. Would be nice to crack the teens for match up optics this week, but whatever.
  12. You will enjoy the middle of the game, but even that was frustrating on many levels.
  13. Also, that Jesus palm/forearm looks a little pale.
  14. Ali was past his prime as a fighter when I saw him in the ring (on tv). I always chose to remember him for his pitchman work. I always liked the way he said "bugs" like boooogs.
  15. My 15 YO son picked this out last night. 13 YO son along for the ride. Red Light , Green Light got my attention. In. Since Parasite came out we have been on a Korean film kick. All of them have been pretty good.
  16. Bijan carrying the ball in his left hand on that first TD v. Tech reminded me of Emmitt Smith. Then I went and looked at Emmitt's highlights. There are a lot of similarities, but Emmett had some huge holes to run through at Florida and Dallas. Bijan makes his own holes, as it were.
  17. That sounds like a 1960's/1970's Disney animated cartoon musical number....from Walt's private personal collection.

    ....and an Erwin Center favorite:
  19. Tech stats are kind of misleading. If K. Robinson doesn't have his foot and face over the line, Texas at least prevents the TD on that drive and gets the ball back on a punt or better. Tech's drives from the beginning of the game would have gone: Punt Punt (ifs and buts) Interception Downs TD End of Half Interception Punt Not a bad start, really.
  20. No. Most redneck thing was killing a hog with a plastic shard from a Larry the Cable guy VCR tape and then cooking the hog with Confederate money.
  21. Not that are open at 8 in the morning and not between my hotel and the cotton bowl. Even if there were, I was not the driver, and my crew was already going through the withdrawal shakes and needed their wax cup beer.
  22. 11 AM is the correct answer. Arrive at the fair before 9AM eat and drink as much as you can. Find the secret cheap wax cup beer kiosk. Profit. ..and remember to pack your comfortable game shoes....one year I packed in the morning on Friday, went to work until noon and then headed up to Dallas, only to find on Saturday morning that I forgot my running shoes. The forecast for the day was unseasonably warm so I wore shorts with my lace up construction boots and my UT shirt. I was a sight to behold. 2nd most redneck thing I have ever done. Texas lost badly.
  23. Looks like Peter Pan.
  24. Does this thing tomorrow get its own thread or are we keeping it on the down low until things get real?
  25. Using old photos, schedules, and my memory, I placed my allegiance somewhere in the 1973 season when I was 6 years old. At that point I didn't really understand what was going on so much, but it all seemed to be a big deal, so I got on board. Growing up in Austin, it was pretty much the default. Where it really hit overdrive was in the fall of 1975. My mom, knowing I was a fan, spotted a six pack display of Pearl Bear ( Could have been another brand, I still have the cans in my attic so I can check later), sporting the 1975 Texas Longhorns schedule on the back. So she bought a six pack, and my twin brother and I were allowed to finish off the dregs of a few. Not my first taste of the magic elixir, but what an association. As someone famous once said..."Ah, how sweet the wine". Ended up mostly watching on TV, except for a few Arkansas games and a few "band" days over the years. Ended up in LHB for 85-88 and the team sucked. Enjoyed the "Shock the Nation" tour while it lasted and I guess I technically finished BBA and MPA in fall of '90 so the Miami debacle didn't occur on my watch. CSB(re football team sucking): We always had tons of extra people that did not make LHB every fall and "those people", as I liked to call them, were usually swept up by the men's basketball band as a fall back. Womens' bball band was voluntary by game with regulars getting to attend playoff etc. When I first made LHB the men's basketball team sucked, but later on in the early Tom Pender's years they were pretty good and entertaining at least. When LHB tryout results were posted there were lots of long faces with the directors coming up to the people that didn't make it encouraging them with some kind words and a "hey, you know you can always be in the basketball band". With the reversal of fortunes between football and basketball, some of my friends and I drunkenly mused once that there would tryouts for the basketball band and the directors would swoop in on the unsuccessful with a "hey, you can always join the LHB on the football side and see if that helps for next year's luck on getting in the basketball band." I guess you had to be there.
