  2. this thread needs to be perma pinned
  3. those Gas Gene's like the WEN are nice, but I opted for the NG model as I don't want the wife or kids to have to deal with moving it, connecting it, fueling it.
  4. Generac is the king of the Home Gene world, followed by Kohler and couple others. They are all all about the same and Generac is probably the most consumer friendly. Local code variances aside, you want a Gene that runs off NG vs Petro as you don't have to fuck with fueling it, presumes you are residentials and have constant NG. You want it placed 10ft from the house for ventilation purposes. You will need a plumber and the local gas company to collaborate on the install, very easy and happens all the time. You might need a bigger gas meter, not a big deal, they will swap it. You may also need some black pipe and the Gas Company and or Plumber will handle that. W.r.t whole home Gene...you want an Auto Transfer Switch so it kicks in automagically and there are no wires to connect, which means no opening to the outside of house. https://www.generac.com/all-products/generators/home-backup-generators/guardian-series/22kw-7043-whole-house-switch-wifi-enabled Lead Time: get ready to wait. Generac and most others were already experiencing manufacturing delays due to Covid 19, then this summers storms impacted the timeline as well as everyone up here ordered the after the August storms.Expect a few months. I look at it as insurance and in investment in my property. a whole house project (on Long Island) can run between $8k and $20k depending in size, complexity of install requirements ,etc. the units themselves are pretty standard w.r.t cost, its the install that gets you.
  5. I'm going with the opinion of the three plumbing companies spoke with who sell both options, your mileage may vary
  6. On Water Heaters.... Placement: most of y'all don't have basements but thats a great place for them. Mine is right next to my NG Boiler and it has an expansion tank. Guarantees that it won't freeze as its by the boiler. I also think tankless are more trouble than they are worth. They can't heat as fast or as much water as a tank system, they need more frequent cleaning as well. New tankless and new tank generally have a shorter lifespan due to planned obsolescence. things like this used to be meant to last 15-20 years, now it's 8-12 years. I seem to recall people used to say a roof would last 20-25 years and now it's 15-20. New light bulbs are build to crap out at a certain usage time.
  7. this. I live in NY, it's cold here. I still have snow on the ground from storm two weeks ago and it's snowing today. probably 6" inches fresh. Do I drip? nope. Not even the outside spigots? nope. All of them (three) have their own cut offs, one is attached to the sprinkler system and has been cut off and drained for months, one is a Freeze Proof spigot and the third one will be updated to that come spring. I also have a finished and heated basement so that helps. Next week we are putting in a Natural Gas powered 22Kw whole house generator, joy of joys.
  8. possible, some gaskets/seals are cardboard material and they leak in extreme temps and temp swings. I get a variety of drips from places under my '76 Bronco but then again Im working with 45 YO auto tech
  9. Quiche, real men eat it
  10. I get to do all my own lead gen this year, which really isn't any different than its been for 6 plus years except now they give us ZoomInfo and LinkedIn Navigator and what to track the activity. the only thing that matters IMHO is revenue. My LinkedIn Navigator SSI # does not correlate to PO's. I'm so tired of the "Social Selling" bullshit.
  11. it's all the little shit. Our backwards ass French IT staff won't support using a Mac so now I have to use a PC. I've been on my Mac in this role for 7 years with no issues. there goes my efficiency.
  12. We use a Nespresso Vertuo for "by the cup" and a simple Cuisinart drip coffee maker for "by the pot". Use Sumatran Manderling from Stew Leonard's.
  13. so it SKO time...virtual new shitbag Sales VP is doing Sales Awards...but what are they? who gets them? Usually its by performance...b/c we are in Sales and performance is what should matter. Nope, not this year. The Rep w/ the biggest deal did receive "Rep if the YEar" but the rest were all political. No mention of what the actual award is and no mention of all the Reps who exceeded their quota attainment. wtf?
  14. I saw an article stating the opposite, that the supply of bars to meet the orders is tight.
  15. so you should poop in it and if anyone asks, just say "squirrel poop"
  16. I'm "shaming" someone for wanting to travel internationally. How did the new mutations of Covid get here? wasn't from a Buc-ees. Yes the local NY rate is gotten out of hand and we (family) have damn near been on lock down b/c of it. I think that NY is suffering from serious fatigue, then again from this data is appears that Texas has no fatigue because it's never tried to flatten the curve. https://txdshs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/ed483ecd702b4298ab01e8b9cafc8b83 end of the day none of really give two fucks about another's opinion and neither of us are changing our minds or leaving their high ground. I think people nationwide are not taking this seriously enough.
  17. when the infection rate and hospitalization rates are low, do things within reason. when they are not...do you job to help make them low. Maybe it's being in NY that makes us see the risks differently.
  18. Wait, the kids go to school to? In person? Are you insane? There’s a pandemic going on. You had a holiday dinner with your in-laws? One of those people had a positive test and you simply “punted for a few days”. Unnecessary risk. The CDC clearly told people to spend holidays with their immediate household only. Have you or your wife had your hair cut? Been to the doctor or dentist? Ever been into Target or Lowe’s or Home Depot? How do you get parts for your Bronco, online or in person? In case you haven’t noticed, COVID is going on and it’s really not a good idea to ever leave your home or have face-to-face contact with anyone you don’t live with. Your holiday dinner could’ve been a superspreader event and you could’ve easily taken a year off and wait until next year or 70-80% vaccination. I like that you are trying.
  19. dude, I'll play for you. Groceries: I wear a mask and sometimes gloves, take wipes or purel with me. we get deliveries as well. Deliveries: be it AMZ, GrubHub, UPS, FedEx, whatever..it all lands on a special table I built for the front porch. "Chipotle": we do not eat there, but it we did order some sort of Quick Serve it would be delivered (see above) or drive thru (Kids like Mickey D's nuggets) Restaurants: take out or delivery. Kids play dates: during the summer and fall when it was warm and the infection rate was very low...one kid at a time on the backyard, kid comes from their class where they are two of eight students. Parent must wear mask Family: I have not seen (in person) my family in Texas since last Christmas. My inlaws are local and we only see them in house or backyard. typically at my SIL's we would do dinner on the back porch. it's fucking hard, Christmas this year got fucked up because my nephew tested positive, no one else in his family or our family did. neither did the nephews school group. we still had to punt everything for a few days. His birthday "drive by" this week, we would hung out and stayed but a kids nanny in my kids class read her test results wrong and as such we isolated. false alarms suck. Our Friends: when the infection rate was super low here in July...a few outdoor meet ups with less than six other people, socially distant. we went to an outdoor party and went early, once more people arrived..we left. It's not that hard of you care about others. what do I do for fun: play poker over Zoom/PokerStars with my buddies, some virtual happy hours (but with two toddlers a hangover sucks), work on my Bronco or something around the house. all I do is wear masks, buy new masks and wash hands. It's about keeping my kids healthy (toddlers have each had two covid tests, how much fun is that!), it's about keeping my wife healthy as she is the primary caregiver and I am the bread winner, neither adult can effectively do both roles. it's about limited the risk to my MIL/FIL who are in the late 60's and early 70's. All this shot about the Airplane and how it circulates air....who cares. it's an enclosed tube of strangers, thats an exponential risk, Airports are dirty and filled with more strangers, more exponential risk. Monorail, Rental car, Ride service, Hotel. take a year off. wait for 70-80% vaccination.
  20. No travel. No dining out, no group gatherings, no bars, no going shopping for non essentials. We keep our bubble small and while it sucks, it's the right thing to do. yes, and you don't have to like, better yet...you could ignore it.
