  1. Five minutes from the kids school, no car time. I work from home and wife doesn't work. Grow sack and stop acting out.
  2. looking for some new music and seeing some known bands at cools venues. I'm talking about shows like Trampled by Turtles at Cedar Street, The Suffers in a loft party, The Heavy at La Zona Rosa, along w/ Gary Clark and Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr. Dawes at Mohawk, that kinds fun.
  3. I've read some dumb shit you have posted before but this takes the cake. You know nothing of living in NYC, only visits for work and play. Loud: everything is relative and many, many places within the confines of NYC are rather quite and tranquil. There are parks here you know. There is no outdoor beauty: ok, have you been to Ft. Tilden? any of the many beaches? the Cloisters, Hudson River Park, the harbor? Rockaway? Kids: what makes droving them around in a car so awesome, better yet...why would raising them in NYC be not as good? Dogs: Dog runs and parks are everywhere and many folks believe that the smaller apartments/living spaces are better for canine anxiety. Poetry readings and shit like that?: culture, and shit like that An 8 figure salary: means that someone earns between $10,000,000 and 1 billion ($1,000,000,000) I live and hour out of Manhattan now, because I wanted the space ( I live on a wooded acre), I wanted to not pay to park my two daily drivers and my Bronco, be closer to hunting and fishing, at least have easier access and less gun restrictions. The public school district is ranked 23 of 950 in State and 788th in the nation. and I don't want to pay private tuition ( and I believe in Public Schools). takes me six minutes to the LIRR and then 50min to Penn. I work from home, its joyous. One hour to East Hampton. I might make 7 figures this year but high sixes is more likely. I lived in Texas for half my life, there is no comparing the two places, I wish people would stop.
  4. my 2.5 YO daughter climbs out of her crib like a ninja. silent assassin. her twin brother has not made the move to flip himself over the crib rail, but he will big kids beads have been ordered.
  5. Billable/deductible, etc, it still impacts cost and cash flow and not as convenient (there is a soft cost there) as hoping in your car and going. the car costs less in H town. period
  6. parking for me was $600 a month in the FiDi.
  7. Commuting cost is somewhat fixed and predictable, what studies like this don't account for is for say, the costs of running about to see clients, this is a variable and its less predictable
  8. cabs, car service, montly metrocard, LIRR, MetroNorth, NJT, all that shit cost money to get around. I paid for all that living in the city and I owned cars, which can cost several hundred a month to park and Auto Insurance in NYC ain't cheap.
  9. who is "most people"?
  10. 48, Married (she does not work, twins 2.5 YO. Making good money, living in a good suburb and, got a classic car and a nice smoker. wouldn't say I'm unhappy but they accoutrements are not bringing the joys you might think they would. neither is the job success. such is life. I have nothing to whine about and should shut up and keep grinding and enjoy it all.
