  1. I purposefully stayed away from the game thread last night, 'cause I knew what I would find on there. Yes, I shouted "F******CK!!!" at the top of my lungs after the 2nd muffed punt, but I didn't run to the board just to ridicule a hard working kid that already knew he screwed up. This morning I woke up happy (above ground), opened Surly, and dove in head first ..., and what did I read? You mean other than "... PK is finally doing what I had hope he would do on defense when he was hired." Finally? Year 1 he had no zero impact on recruiting, and inherited a mindset of entitlement and players sitting back on their heals and watching people run by you. Year 2 he had 2 DL and a LB drafted and a LB that should have been B12 Defensive POY. This year, Year 3, he has put on the field one of the strongest defenses in college football. I will wait patiently to volcano on all the "Seven win Steve" people on here, scorn those you say, "I will eat crow" and think all is forgiven, and then smile and watch the axles bend from all the weight on the bandwagon. Some here have the patience of a gnat, thick success is a point and click away, and think being born on 3rd base is the same as hitting a triple.
  2. So, you expected, PK to walk in, flip a switch, and take Herman's poorly coached retreads, with a staff that was hired for him, most (all?) of which he had never worked with, and turn them from soft marsh mellows into a life taking, ball-hawking defense? Red Foreman would like a word with you. The DL and LB play has gone from the weak link to the strength of the team in a short time. 2 sacks in the first 3 plays is something you don't see every week. Like Never!!! The DB's are good players, just not fast. The younger and faster guys are learning. I'm betting we get some top shelf guys in a few months. Now, if we could just find someone who can catch a punt...
  3. This! @immamac, you Rock!!! You check a lot of boxes, friend. "I'm going to go spend some time with the kids ..." ❤️ Killer job on the brisket, on top of everything else. very enjoyable day. Ambled through the other tailgates, ... the "Texas Cheer & Pom Girls Alumni" tent ... Damn!
  4. Consider that most of the team completely out-talented guys in HS, and never had to be "coached up" to perform at a high level. They will make mistakes, learn, and get better. Ant Hill, for example, will be a great player at Texas, but he will make obvious mistakes. Sark is not responsible for the mistakes, he is responsible for coaching it out of him. Hayden Conner's false start on play 1 is not on Sark; poor Hayden can't play OL with his head up his ass. Sark did not throw a bad pass last night, or drop any passes. He did call the game, and that is squarely on him. Perhaps the best way to get guys into the game early was to get physical early. We stubbed our toe big time out of the gate, and it got worse. Other than the busted long run for a TD, the defense played solid. Too many hungry guys there, they will be ok. Much more important to finish the games strong. The team will be okay. Now for some of our weather-vane fans ...
  5. brat? He was a teenager last year, playing against Saban's dynasty and teams with covid super seniors, with a rebuilding roster, swiss cheese OL, like going to a gunfight with a 6 shooter and 2 live bullets and a blank. He was still only 19 less than 6 months ago; he is in the peak years of growing and maturing. Unfortunately for you, that ship sailed a long time ago.
  6. Yes! Not sure if they're included as best receivers ever, but each of them delivered iconic plays in the history of Texas Football. 1970: Cotton Speyrer with a 45 yard catch & run for a TD, to take a 20-17 lead over UCLA with 12 seconds left, preserving the #2 ranked and defending National Champion's 23 game winning streak, paving the way to a 30 game streak and the 1970 National Championship. I remember this day; we were playing football in the front yard, and my friends older brother came flying out of the house, blowing the screen door off the house, jumping and shouting, "We Won!! We Won!!!" 1978: Johnny "Lam" Jones, 4x100 Olympic Gold Medalist, 103 yard KO return for a touchdown, taking 12 seconds off the clock (he did have to make a move to avoid the kicker).
  7. I'm pretty sure that game ball will always have a special place in his trophy case.
  8. The idiocy of some Surly-ites is amazing, and like the waves of the ocean, sadly, will never go away. It begs the question, "How the hell did you get into Texas?" Sports media across the country, including some of the most self-anointed homers in College Sports (SEC, UA, LSU, OU, etc.), are falling over themselves praising Texas for a "performance for the ages", countless examples of quality athletes whipping and demoralizing Ala-f*cking-bama on their home turf. The difficulties the homers have in stating emphatically that, ... gulp, ... "I'm an Idiot", "I was wrong about Texas", "Texas has a much better team", "Texas is is the best team in the country!", etc. etc. And yet, some of you post such ignorant things, that ..., that ... Please, go away.
  9. The duality of man ... Absolutely love the de-cleater block ..., Top 10 all time ... and ... what appears to be the second coming of the Phil Mickelson "Big Air" jump for joy.
  10. This was posted on another thread. I think it is indicative of what happens when Sark's scheming and Quinn's execution are in sync. Quinn Ewers completed 16 of 20 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns on first down. 80% completion and 11 yds/att will win some ball games. Having a pocket to stand in and deliver the ball on time makes all the difference in the world. Tremendous job by the coaches getting everybody ready to do their part, and kudos to the players for delivering.
  11. "We are stupid, stupid idiots!" Commendable when people stand up and admit, repeatedly, without any excuses, that they were wrong.
  12. 1. 1969 Arkansas. Went to the Pep Rally in Austin that week, age 13, the most people I had ever seen at one time. Texas football dominated Austin back then. Watching DKR, the man, go off script, and winning in Fayetteville on the 100th Anniversary of College Football, in the "Game of the Century" about covers it. 3. 1977 OU. Earl's TD run before the half was like watching a spooked white tail, beating OU for the first time in 7 years. The '74-'75 OU National Champions were among the best teams in the history of CFB. Pinnacle of Texas HS running backs; Joe Washington, Roosevelt Leaks, Earl Campbell, Billy Sims. "Hello, Heisman!" The ocean of fans on the Drag that night ...❤️ 3. 1998 A&M. "Run, Ricky, Run!" "If you want to play football, Go to Texas!" What's this "Little Earl" shit? Oh...okay. Following a coaching change, Ricky came back for his senior year. Winner. Being in DKR as the volume went from 3 to 11, ... straight to the veins. 4. 2005 USC. VY. I watched VY in HS for 3 years. Told my brother to come watch the HS Playoff game against Katy his senior year. Man amongst boys doesn't describe it properly. Glad Mack finally let him play his game. Long time coming after having our hearts ripped out over 30+ years. 5. 2023 Alabama. Given how good Texas was when I was young and how bad we have been for the past 15 years, this was a defining moment on the eve of joining the SEC. Texas drove a STEAK though the heart of so, so many doubters (Yeah! YOU!!!), crushing the GOAT in the process. So many good people deserved this. "... the Ox is slow, but ...the earth is patient..." - Tibetan proverb
  13. Something wrong w/ the pic. Jimbo is 5 1/2' tall and he towers over most of the band. Is the band made up of 4'11" guys so they can march in a phone booth?
  14. 100.00% hit Wulaw. Thank you for your consistent support and measured reaction to so many things. Welcome to the bandwaggon ..., oops, not yet, guys. I will wait patiently for a few months, and after I volcano on all the "Seven win Steve posters", and there are a lot of you, then I will welcome you back into the fold. I agree with the axis tilt, that things will change towards the more traditional powers. I think Alabama will still be in the picture, as they can always point to skins on the wall, and that will always matter. (I went to an OU game in Norman in the 80's, and I got goose bumps walking into the stadium. I imagine recruits feel the same way sometimes. I think Sark felt that way when he first walked into DKR-TMS.) Alabama won't run shit anymore, but I think with prudent hires, they should still compete at a high level. Last year as the inflection point? Yeah, buddy, my thoughts exactly. The massive changes in direction v. late Mack, Strong & Herman were there, but so many dogged Sark & Quinn because they failed to deliver immediate results. Yes, I was disappointed, but I also know that a supertanker cruising at top speed doesn't change direction like a jet ski. Listen to Josh Pate's Late Kick...He talks about the difference in building a team and building a program. Texas, CDC & Sark have built a program. (That takes time, considering the starting point of Sark's tenure; assistant coaches, culture, talent, scholarship distribution, recruiting, bloated administration, leaks to the press, tolerance of F*ck Chip Brown and Kirk Bohls, etc.) Whether or not Texas wins out or not, Texas is going to be here and be elite again for a long while. The Death Star in operational. Spoiler; First word out of his mouth, "WOW!" Milroe is not the biggest problem, just the most visible. Reese called some good plays, that "forced" Texas to react, that Milroe executed. He is a 4.4 40-guy that spent all night running for his life. Kinda like Quinn last year. It's amazing how different the guy with the clean jersey looked compared to the guy digging grass out of his facemask. He can hit the long throws. The shorter stuff, seeing the field, and making the right decisions, is heavily dependent on coaching. Quinn has it, Milroe doesn't. (BOB was your mentor? Who wouldn't be f*cked up?) Milroe won't face the NFL talent like Texas has again, unless Alabama makes it to the SEC Championship game. They also won't face an offense like ours. Sark, Flood, Davis & Milwee are difference makers. Sark gave a shout out to Milwee for settling Quinn down in the 2nd Qtr. It's been so long since we had good coaches I forgot what it looked like. I thought the Texas DL match up against the huge Alabama OL (fatties!!! 🤣) was a big Texas advantage. We have a lot of big, talented guys that somebody lit a fire under. Playing next too, or behind T'Vondre Sweat has to be inspiring (Broughton? Collins?). Getting a consistent push makes the world go round. As many mentioned, a drop back QB would have got sacked 10 times, if he made it that long. I hope for Alabama's sake, this is taking advantage of Milroe's skill set, and not a program change. Mack reluctantly let Vince play his game, changed the offense, and got the results. Colt covered up a lot of shortcomings, and Mack taking a HUNH team and trying to turn it into smashmouth football was tragic for Texas.
  15. so... I guess that's your hyperspace button to make sure there's tongue involved when the lips touch?, ...NTTAWWT.
  16. Good take by Josh Pate. Talks about the difference in building a program v. building a team, and Texas, CDC & Sark have rebuilt The Program. Don't OD on the kool aid.
  17. Rod Babers w/ Burton discussed this yesterday, how the game would have played out if Texas went up 17-0 out of the gate and started coasting. No adversity, get complacent, and loose in the 4th Quarter. Misfiring on so many little things by so many players, coachable moments without giving up a big play. Quinns happy feet in the 2nd Qtr. Hill, for example, with his Hager move, running himself out of the play and losing contain, only to come back and get 2 sacks. The DL discipline in the second half was a thing of beauty. Burke's sack & TFL were both within arms lengths of his lane. Big guys ate up blockers all night, and Gbenda gets a hustle play sack right up the middle. Campbell of the 4th quarter TD run; "... don't stand there, just mash the guy in front of you." Great game. Big inflection point in Texas Football fortunes.
  18. Thank you all for your efforts. "Short answer is yes. But what else are they supposed to do? They'd be out of business if they were honest about the real state of the program."

Big Orange, A Great Big, "Hell Yes!!!" for capturing this. Thank you, Sir. To all of you weeping, spineless, Negative Nancy's who have littered this board with your feeble ilk since Quinn stepped foot on campus... Nothing but Love for QE. He is a Poster Child for the way he represented himself, his family, his teammates, and The University of Texas. He has carried a mountain of expectations very few in the history of college football have ever had to deal with, with a poise and maturity not usually associated with 20 year old kids (he was a teenager less than 6 months ago.) Quinn, You Rock! Those of you eating crow today, enjoy.
