  1. Lone Star is Texas smoker-builds royalty. Their shit is generational in terms of the quality and robust nature of how long it will last. They're like the Toyota Tacoma's of the smoker world, where used ones on the secondary market often sell for more than a new build. Keep the pics coming. I have an OLD offset given to me by a fellow smoker who had to move and couldn't accommodate it. Built in '72 and it still fucks.
  2. Yep. Sub-Saharan African tribe had a coke bottle land in their camp after being thrown out the window of a bush plane. They used it for all kinds of stuff, until they started to fight over the bottle and it created strife, so the main character went on quest to throw “the gift” off the edge of the world (massive waterfalls) and return the village back into it’s harmonious state.
  3. I could care less about the “message” of this craptastic show, but as a body of work, through two painful episodes, it was awful. Teenage space ninja beats Matrix Jedi master with throwing knives and a little distraction. Quite the strategery. So dumb…. Oh, you know space Kung Fu? How about I use one of the most basic Jedi moves and pick you up off the floor and have you hover in the air. Kick me now beech!
  4. They made a movie about this many years back called "The Gods must be crazy"
  5. They follow returns like every other vulture out there. It was only a matter of time.
  6. And I hear the Axis hunting is out of bounds on some of the islands like Molokai & Lanai. It's bow only, and they are twitchy and they can get, but I hear it's an amazing experience. On Lanai they HAVE to hunt them. The herd is up to 30K +/- on 90K acres, with zero natural predators.
  7. Just got back from Maui and Oahu last night. LATE last night. Fuck you AA and your short-staffed planes and fuck you Texas weather. Anyway, lots of hotel options. The issue is proximity to the beach and other places. The two places we stayed had an outdoor grilling section with gas grills, so I did that a bunch. Saved a ton of money. Food is expensive there, but there are lots of smaller places to eat. Get recommendations from the locals if you can. Fuck the canned Luau's. Giant waste of time. Buy liquor/beer at the store and bring it to the hotel/resort. I realized this early after a few $10 beers. If you have snorkel gear, pack it. We used ours quite a bit. Places we stayed also had laundry machines on site, so I was able to pack light. On Maui, we drive up to the top of the Haleakala National Park. It's the windiest road I've ever driven. You go up 10k feet, through the clouds, then from the top of the crater are looking down at them. Big observatory up there as well. $30/car to get in. Worth the trip. If you into hiking, there are quite a few options up there, but that altitude can get you, so be careful. It's also windy and colder being that high up, so pack a light jacket. Hit the Arizona memorial again. Obviously it's a must see. If you have time, the Bowfin (submarine) is next door. You can tour the inside, but be warned, it's unbelievably tight moving around in there. Not like the movies. There are two walk-through museums you'll want to hit as well. We had a tour guide that drive us to the memorial that was pretty amazing. I know a lot about what happened and came away impressed with how much he knew. If you are a reader, try "At Dawn we Slept". Great book about what happened. As the older sailors that served on the ships pass, most are being cremated and Navy divers place their urns in the sunken ships so they can rest with their fallen crewmen. The last survivor of the Arizona passed last year. He was 102 and the island had a huge parade for him before he passed. Guy in line was wearing a Navy hat and said his dad served on the Oklahoma and survived the attack. Pretty cool guy.
  8. Don't sleep on pork-belly burnt ends either. Just cube it up, toss them in rub, and get after it. Smoke for a few hours, then cover and slop them up. If you want to go super-simple: butter, brown sugar, and sweet baby rays. Meat candy.
  9. Pork shoulders and chuckies are my two favorites. I'll still do a brisket, but it has to be a special occasion or on demand for a neighbor, etc. They take too long to cook and they're too damn expensive when most people want to church the meat up anyway and make tacos and fancy sliders. Seriously, look at this beautiful beech right here - bark was perfect
  10. This is my go to for shredded beef sammiches and tacos. I cook essentially the same way you mentioned. The only difference is in the pan with the broth, I add diced hatch chilis and a rough cut onion. Cooks in half the time of a brisket for a fraction of the price.
  11. Or those psychopaths that polar plunge in it new years day. Nope.....
  12. It's cold. Not warm soup like most of the smaller pools. I grew up near Patterson park. That pool was a piece of work in the summer. There was a nature preserve place nearby that had summer camps I went to as a kid so we'd cool off in the pool after they hiked us around all day in the heat. They had this one crow that was "interned" at the camp because it stole everything shiny the swimmers had. Keys. Sunglasses. You name it. Can you imagine how pissed you'd be if a GD bird stole your car keys! The bird was either going to be euthanized or kept at the center FT. I think his name was "Paco"?
  13. Or it already does and it's playin' possum with everyone.
  14. I remember when you could pick up an SKS for <$200. Covered in grease and still in the crate.
  15. Yeah, don't do that. I worked after college at an exotic game ranch for a summer. They had dozens of species and reinforced pipe fences and electric wire for the larger animals. Under the fence there was a gap about two feet off the ground. I found out why. Guy was working in the elk pen and got charged. Elk rolled him along the ground with his antlers. Guy escaped under the fence but had to be airlifted to the hospital. He was busted up pretty bad. In the wild, he'd have been in trouble. If you've ever hunted elk, many of the bulls have serious injuries from sparring sessions with the boys. Broken antlers under the skin, large scars, often serious infections and open wounds. They're a horse we swords on their heads that like to fight.
  16. I forget the IG thread, but there was one about police and postal feedback to daily encounters. it's great "tried to deliver package. Bear in the driveway"
  17. Oh, I know. I giggle with glee with every post
  18. Anthropomorphic marketing has people confused that many wild animals won't end you. Moose "Teddy" bears and Bison. How many Yellowstone tourists have to be flipped into the air by bison for people to realize that they are not to be messed with.
  19. And you thought Hollywood was running out of original ideas...
  20. China beat us to it - by about a decade
