Batman was safe to take your kids to. Blade was not. That's the era it ushered in. The language. The violence. It was an adult-only film that many people didn't think was possible.
I'd disagree. SM came out in 2002. Blade was already on it's sequel by then and has largely been recognized as the first Marvel movie that proved that comic adaptations could appeal to adults. Also the first black superhero actor, etc. If you want to talk the most influential Marvel movie, you have to give it to Iron Man in '08. There'd been multiple Super and Spiderman movies prior.
Dude. Dewd. Dood......Blade is the OG. Started it all. It was the first bad ass, action packed hero Marvel movie that made enough money to spawn a trilogy. Further, it wasn't a kids movie. It was dark and gritty and proved the concept that there was a massive audience for this type of film.
First one is awesome (special effects are a little dated). Second one was equally awesome. Skip the 3rd one. Warmed over kitten shit.
If we're talking genre inspiring shit, and I'm going to pivot a little to directors, but John Hughes!
16 candles, then Breakfast Club, then Weird Science, to Ferris!
THAT was my childhood. Then the whole Lampoons series (Christmas was the best. Don't even fucking argue)
I love me some Pulp Fiction, but it was more of an homage to earlier movies than a genre defining movie in it's own right. Pulp Mags, crime stuff, and cheesy 70's movies. Same with the Kill Bill line and of course One Upon a Time in Hollywood. It was the dialogue that made it so great (IMHO).
Didn't watch the AL/FSU game - had a strong feeling FSU was going to do exactly what they did. The MI coach is in over his head and it's showing. He's a good coach, but overwhelmed. It's not a good fit.
MI/OU was also predictable. A freshman on the road with no real ability to stretch the field going against a team that is only good at stopping the run. The season will expose both teams as being meh....
That's WAY down the waterfall. The Hong Kong action movies decades earlier set this is motion. Specifically all the John Woo movies. Remember the phrase "Gun Fu"? Or gun play married with Kung Fu. That's a direct line down to Wick.
This leads to one I can't believe I forgot. Enter the Muther Frickin Dragon. Bruce Lee. THE martial arts movie. Still holds up today.
Serious movies
Rocky - 70's underdog, come from the gutter to glory sports movies for which there are dozens now
Schindlers List - 90's harrowing doc on the camps, etc. Nothing like it before or after on that scale.
Saving Private Ryan - late 90's film with brutal reality. Spawning BoB and the Pacific and the Flags of our Fathers movies.
Pixar
Toy Story kind of started it all
Marvel/Superhero
Blade - the first bad ass production movie that was a box office success. Blade was the OG, spawning a whole host of subsequent Marvel movies that made gazillions
Per the interwebz, it was a Maltese or heraldic cross, borrowed from European heraldic motifs conveying strength and guardianship, connection and unity
The more you know....
Damn. So many questions
where is Austin did this take place?
So they broke in, drank a bunch of booze, then exited smashed - which even with strong stuff, can take a little while
Then hammered, stole the car and crashed it
Are they still at large?
These two things make me itchy. Comp guns and EDC guns are two different animals, built to do two completely different things. I's just say be careful with that hair trigger.
Watched that fight. Clear and utter fuckery. Everyone knew Roy won that fight. Glad it's been rectified. Pound for pound, Roy was one of the greatest to ever put on the gloves. No jab. Fuck your jab. A hook so fast it one-punch KO'd Montell Griffin.
But, the worst thing I ever done: I mixed up all this fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this.
OU suckssssssss!!!!!!!!!
Cripple fight. OU can play the run when there’s no threat of downfield passing. MI can’t throw the ball. If Texas doesn’t shit the bed. They can score on OU and put them into obvious passing downs with this defense. OU over pursuing like hell. Exploit it Sark you fuck.
