  1. My assumption is it's UT that is always going to keep it UT and the 7 UT dwarfs. The King and it's fiefdom. Not saying it's wrong, but these smaller satellite systems can never surpass the top dog.
  2. I have issues with him stating and restating the problem - but just throwing more money at the problem is rarely the best option. In the interim, families have choices to make. My youngest just turned 16 and was told by her coach (they can't talk to them until June 15th) that she's on UT's "radar"......whatever the hell that means? It was good enough to solicit squeals and yells. We both know it's a VERY big stretch. I know she can get in, but she wants to play at the college level, so Texas probably isn't in the cards and we're all fine with that. My son went another direction. He was always told he will have a skin in the game financially. Even if we hit the powerball tomorrow, he’s paying for a portion of his school – either directly or with loans. Problem set. His solution – he’s going ROTC. HIS solution, not mine. He vetted the options, and he wants to go this route. He’s going supply chain logistics at the biz school @ AR. For that field of study, AR is as competitive as most. He spoke with a graduated 1st lieutenant who went the same route (SCL) and is doing this in the army now. Completing that degree, coming out as a commissioned officer, and then having the real-world application of his craft, his stock could not be higher. Military is struggling mightily as well filling billets. So few applicants, and those that come, struggle so much with the fitness standards. My kids a former soccer player turned BJJ/gym rat. This year he put on 25lbs of muscle and still has a decent gas tank from his soccer days. When he told the recruiter, then officer all this they were excited ( I was on the call). Barring him bombing the ASVAB, he’ll have options. Woman that works for me, her husband went the same route. ROTC @ AR, then went “big” Army. Artillery. He was plucked up quickly by the private sector immediately after he left active duty. There are still tons of options out there for kids if they put in the effort to still get a good education and not exit drowning in loans
  3. Which is also the point. School can charge outrageous sums to incoming classes on the premise that it will be justified by the prestige of the school and career advancement opportunities later. While they are hedge funds offering classes, they are also marketing behemoths scrambling for the best/brightest and charging astronomical prices in the process. Most of us have line of sight into the the escalation of sports facilities. Bigger and bigger stadiums, etc. This is happening in every facet of the schools to both attract and justify better students and higher prices.
  4. Interesting older article about the enrollment crisis the school faced in the late 80's. Enrollment was close to what it is today, meaning they've squeezed and squeezed admissions tighter and tighter Too many damn kids Too many of them damn kids
  5. Mission creep is the gradual or incremental expansion of an intervention, project or mission, beyond its original scope, focus or goals, a ratchet effect spawned by initial success. dumbasses starved for attention & accolades
  6. China’s playing the long game. Gobbling up vast amounts of global resources via their Belt & Road crap. Their military is probably more advanced than Russia, but still is dependent on bodies and attrition overpowering smaller foes. Their army is massive, but the verdict is still out on how effective it is. EX, their FOFO moment would be Taiwan – they say they’re going to take it. Justified in taking it. But I doubt they could. They have “tech”, but not the right kind. Hypersonic missiles and Gen 5 fighters won’t help them here. They need old school landing craft, logistics, and staging boats to ferry material across that shit-tastic 100 mile journey in rough waters to the island that would be a MF’er for the US military to take…..let alone them. I don’t think people understand what a fortress Taiwan is and almost impossible to take it would be while keeping the chip/waifer fab’s intact.
  7. All their top secret is other people's top secret shit that China already stole. They don't invent shit
  8. Growing up I always wondered why the slaves didn't revolt against the plantation owners. But then in high school I met some modern day slaves. It was heartbreaking. Hegemony, even though revolts were fairly common
  9. It's not perfect, as a system gatekeeper for collegiate aptitude - but all the SAT tests for is how well kids can take the test. In the case of Texas, the school is running out of space. I'm sure they'd love to grow somewhat, but unlike the ATM campus, they have nowhere else they can build. The ags are out in the middle of BFE, so they can grow to 80K kids easily (and will)
  10. I'd push back on the "best kids" statement. Best at playing the game to get into prestigious schools, maybe. Best at looking great on paper. I get that it's a circular argument, but I think the point is that schools are not really vetting the "best" kids. Many seem to be following the same script Fat-Mack did late in his tenure at Texas and just getting starry-eyed at rankings and other people’s reviews and rubber stamping kids without doing his own evals. The stock argument is just basic math. So many of these megalithic companies juice their earnings and shareholder returns for the ever-escalatory upward trajectory of their all important stock price. They will almost always be on an upward path, so all you need to add is time, and the returns on paper are significant. It’s the age old adage of “time in market” vs “timing the market”
  11. Depends upon the degree. Colorado school of mines doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but some of their programs are top notch (as one example)
  12. As important as the gun itself is the holster. If it’s uncomfortable or difficult to carry, you’ll rarely carry – defeating the entire point. I carry a 365. Wish I had gone with the XL or slightly larger option. It’s a small gun, very easy to carry/conceal, not so great at the range. Small guns are hard to shoot effectively. I’m adding a red dot. If you can add a light, add a light. Like mama always said: “nothing ever good happens when the lights are out”. Also helps being able to see what you are aiming at. Then comes the practice, dry fire exercises and clearing your holster. The gun itself has been flawless. Small mags are a PITA to load, but they all are. God willing you’ll never have to use it, so practice, take it apart and reassemble as many times as you can, keep it clean, and it will work for you. Is there a range nearby where you can rent various models to try out?
  13. Water is wet. The Chinese own 15 of the 17 cobalt mines in the Congo. The scenes from what is modern day slavery is horrific.
  14. Kam Patterson need steer clear of all future protests not that he's a regular at the Mother Ship in Austin
  15. Had me a 16g "hump" back in the day. Still have a 20g B80 that needs a trip to the gunsmith
  16. Shit'll buff out....
  17. Get fucked. How the hell does your partisan, broken brain, make this leap? OK, let's unpack this for the last time. The shooter in question in the post was alleged to be some Nazi fuck, and others were calling him a lefty. Everyone was trying to determine the shooters’ identity and affiliation. It was either Reddit or Texags or something but a link was posted confirming he was in fact a sympathizer. So I posted it. It was later verified to be accurate. The confirmation was prefaced that I don’t know anything about the site nor was I advocating for this site but here it is and yes, the dude’s a dirtbag. Full stop.
  18. and 100% of them not on mommy/daddy's silver spoon would take scholarship monies if offered that had investments in sed "evil corporations". They're just dumb kids. rant all you want, it's this escalatory shit that moves the needle - and not in their favor.
  19. Don't make ad hominem attacks. What happens, get an ad hominem attack. Never change CR'ers....
  20. They can post all they want where they want. It's all the tried/true CR ad hominem attacks on posters, sources, and links that turn most threads into piles of giant shit.
  21. This. The anger and outreach is organic, this violent escalatory shit doesn't seem to be. Most certainly there are bad actors embedded in these from all aspects of the political spectrum. I'm looking at you Lisa Fithian...
